I used to use Facebook everyday, but now I visit it more rarely and likely 90% of my friends are those ones who I know. I don't want to risk and add strange people to my friends because I don't want to be terrorized or my PC to be infected.
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

I came out completely on facebook 2 days ago, by the way.

Feel free to add me there.

Congrats!

I (still) use Facebook everyday to keep track of things and post pictures every once in a while, and I tend to only add people I know 90% of the time. I don't like how it turned into a war zone gradually what with certain discussions, not to mention the constant mobile updates which lag my phone as I mentioned in another thread.

I mostly don't use facebook because I don't want to post or do anything stupid on there. Most employers are going to look at your facebook first now and if they see even the slightest thing they don't like, they'll turn you down due to "you don't represent the image we would like for our company". If you think that's not true, then you haven't worked at WildAdventures, or possibly any Herschend Family Entertainment park.
I only really use Twitter, and admittedly I do that a bit too much. I want to stay up to date with everything but i'd guess I could just visit the seperate. Although it's kinda fun to complain about the shit that's happening in soccer and the predictabilitty of F1.
I never use Facebook either but it still has its tracking down on me... h

e: and yeah mobile Facebook updates are the worst, it's always a ridiculous extra 40MB or something and nothing in the app changes at all, but they make sure to notify you constantly with "your app is not updated" when you don't have the latest one.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
I never liked facebook and I think it's because when i started using the internet no one ever used their real names or anything. It's just always weird to me even now to attach your real name to the things you post online especially since people online tend to say things they'd never say in real life to other people. And yet your real name is attached to those things. It's just weird and I never got over it enough to actively use it.

I'll use Messenger though.
I used facebook for a while on the behest of my family, but quickly stopped. I find it quite unwise to post personal information on the internet, especially tied to such things as real names.
Unwise? How?

I assume it could be because of strangers that could use his personal info to their own advantage, which is a fair reasoning, even though there are ways to prevent them from seeing it.

I don't buy it. Posting pics or sharing where you are or were last night honestly aren't very dangerous things to do. It's not like you're giving people more opportunities to steal your credit card info by doing that. Maybe it's easier to kidnap someone after stalking them on Facebook, but that's such an extreme case.

I'm more concerned about harassment/prejudice/stalking. If someone only knows you as a username on a website, you can vanish without them ever finding you.

A while back, a forum mod on the Blizzard WoW forums posted his real name. Got spammed with pizzas and junkmail until he changed his facebook info.

Generally speaking, knowledge is power. The more you keep about yourself hidden, the less people can touch you. Obviously important for kids or harassed minorities. A cis white male may not face much trouble unless they make themselves noticeable (like the aforementioned forum mod), but obviously that isn't the only type of person in the world. What if you're trans? Suddenly your real name can be quite dangerous to give out, as people will harass you over it in certain places, and employers will refuse to hire you.

EDIT: Oh, and one other thing: your personal information is valuable. As in, worth money. Companies will spend A LOT to know things about you. Why give it out for free?

I barely use Facebook nowadays. The site is so bloated that it feels so slow to navigate around. The news feed shows random stuff that I don't really care about. The app is worse because it consumes some data even when it's closed. I uninstalled it a while ago because it's a waste of space. I only keep my account around because anyone in my real life insists and still uses them, yet anything I post and they'll talk about it when I get to meet them.

Yet for some reason those people still feel comfortable enough to hurl profanities and epithets as if it was still YouTube, particularly where opposite sides of the p

spectrum clash.
Even so, I strongly disagree with any employer who either chooses not to hire or fires someone over a comment (especially if it's several years old), since they seem to act as if their own personal biases are more important than an employee's skill to do the job. I couldn't care less if an employee shared a distasteful joke or voted for whoever. I'm sure not all employers are like that, but the fact that there are who do is a slippery slope.

Like SMW Central creator Ersanio, [...]

Gotta start training for that.

To be honest I didn't really intend to become important. I just liked doing the things I did - helping people and learning/teaching ASM (because ASM back when I joined felt like some mystic art passed down to the chosen ones only. Exploring the possibilities was really fun). I enjoyed the whole process, to say the least. I guess I got noticed for that, and everything that followed kind of happened automatically.

Becoming important or not, you should either way just keep doing the things you like doing and perhaps show off your (decent) creations to the community. Maybe you'll sort of build a following (and even make friends) that way, dunno!

Oh, yeah, I know what you mean.
It was kinda of little gag regarding me not really doing anything here.
I'm still in need to find my "talent" here or something of sorts.

I never published anything yet, so that's to be expected.
I hope I can make something people enjoy later on.

I will probably be way more motivated after I publish anything good enough for people to like.

I use facebook because it's the only way I can see local events going on in my city (specifically the nightlife), and concerts.

So idol is Jesus christ super star?
I can't believe idol was Ian Gillan all along! The world is great!

Also.

Since we're on this topic.
I guess I can only say I don't use any social network (never used, and I have no reason to either I guess), except Twitter now, because of SMW Central.

I don't count YouTube or deviantArt as social networks though since they have more focus on creations and stuff like that instead of whatever else.

I wasn't mostly referring to things like posting pictures or anything of the sort. I was more referring to cases of harassment and stalking such as the ones Kaijyuu mentioned. As I said though, there are ways to prevent your personal info from being disclosed to an extreme, but it's up to whoever decides to not stick to Facebook (or any social media, really).

I didn't know about it since I don't use the app on my mobile. I got my phone from sister and changed its look a little. However, I kept some apps, removed others and installed the rest of the apps I'm currently having, but not Facebook. I didn't like its updates anyways. A lot of things were broken in most updates. Isn't this better to make a big update in disclosed periods instead of a few small updates in the same period which break anything?
