So, I came back to this and realized this is probably better off in the Thread of Joy, so I'm editing this and giving just a little run down of things I guess.

Basically, for the past few months, I've been doing things out of my comfort zone, like watching anime kinda frequently (something I haven't really done for years), studying Russian, practice drawing sometimes, thinking about stories and characters for stuff I want to make in the future, taking walks on the woods some days of the weeks (something I'm not completely sure is safe, so please tell me if it's not).

In short, I feel pretty good, but a little weird.
Nothing too interesting to talk about other than that sadly.

Oh, so you want me to tell you about my recent crimes? Hm... I've downloaded a ROM for a game I don't physically own and pirated some music.

Dude that's sick, keep up the good work! What's next on your list?

Yesterday I just climbed the two Osceolas, which were pretty easy. Completing those brought me up to 43/48. Those were my most recent peaks after Washington. As for what is next, I have the Bonds and the Twins left. If I really wanted to go out with a bang, I could get all five peaks in one swoop, therefore completing my list. It would be a 14-hour hike though, so it might be too much.

The list I'm currently working on now are the NH 4,000-Footers, if you didn't know. Any location above 4,000 feet with a 250-foot dip in between any other location above 4,000 feet counts as one. For example, a mountain such as Boott Spur (located on the side of Mt. Washington) does not count, even though it is about 5,500 feet tall. This is because there is not enough of a dip between Boott Spur and Washington. In New England there are a total of 67 4,000-Footers. 48 in NH, 14 in ME, and 5 in VT. Once I finish the NH 48 I'll start working on the other 19 in ME and VT. Once those are finished, I plan to work on the New England Hundred Highest. After that, I don't know.

Wow, good job!

I took a hiatus from SMW hacking for a while, then lost motivation when I tried to start again. I got my motivation back (sorta, which is why I've been dead on here) and now I have school which isn't much of an issue so far. I'm really pessimistic about the future of the year, but that's a reality corner thing I am likely keeping to myself. Oh yeah, 1 year. Yay. I don't care. I'm trying to work on my hack again, though.

I just wanted to say hello! I haven't been here in like three years so for those that somehow remember me, we back baby 👉🏾😎👉🏾 but for everyone else, it's nice to meet you! My life was kinda crazy for a while and I had no time for SMW anymore, but I've found more time and so much cool shit has happened in terms of SMW development recently and I have a new interest / passion again. So yeah, that's it, thanks for coming to my ted talk. Hope everyone is doing well, staying safe, and all that good stuff!

While I don't know you well, I have heard about you. Always great to see old users returning, or even just popping in to say hello!

In other events, three days ago I finally finished my NH 48 4,000-Footers! I really went out with a bang on my final hike. A 20.7-mile trek across the Bonds and the Twins. I got my last five summits in one hike, which was a lot.

That's nice! I've never hiked before, so I'm sure it might be the experience.

HI ANT HOW HAVE YOU BEEN

@Minish Yoshi: How do your legs even feel after that? I've only been walking about a half mile to two miles so I can't imagine. Sadly, I won't have any vacation time until the end of January to do much like that this year, but I do intend to squeeze in some wilderness activity on my days off this week, rain or not.

I intend to go camping again next summer, hopefully for 5 days, and that really can't come soon enough. Our first time camping, for 3 days, we brought like 3 pounds of steak and hot dogs and nothing else for food. No energy outside of the buns and that nasty instant coffee. I'm going to be in charge of food next time after that #ab{>_>} But, it was a really fun location with lots to see and do. There was a quick, breezy thunderstorm one night and the tent held up really well. The ground wasn't completely level and I'm a very unsteady sleeper, so, I'm going to bring something fluffy next time to cushion my back.

Just look above you...

I'm pretty resilient because I'm quite young, so my legs don't usually hurt. They may ache (or rather my feet ache), and they did somewhat towards the end of the hike. Overall, I don't really have much problems with pain while hiking. It might be because I just do it a lot; after all, my 71-year-old grandfather accompanied me on all of my 4,000-Footer hikes and he didn't have any problems. He has been hiking for 35-40 years, so he is acclimated to the "burn" of hiking and probably is just so used to it that his body just doesn't care how long he has been walking. He isn't very fast, but he rarely stops moving. I guess it is something that just comes with repetition.

#ab{O.O} And I thought a 13.1 mile walk/run (and accompanying aftermath) was difficult.

How am I so creative? I think taking walks might have something to do with it.

Still depressed but still hanging on. Video games and my friends keep me there. I've been dismissed of the position of ASM Helper due to being muted in the Discord for being too explicit with my vent and I'm honestly not contesting either outcomes at all. It's probably for the best since I was kind of too depressed to do it at all.

I've also remade my twitter to cut back on follows because there was just so many depressing news and people's spirits being broken and people asking for monetary help that it was just too depressing and I literally couldn't do anything about it and I just felt terrible and. I'm mostly just sticking to my friends and video game accounts on there. I'll update my twitter link later on.

Ouch, that bites. I know how depression spirals work first hand, they're awful. And browsing twitter is usually the worst thing you can do when you're in a spiralling depressive state. Especially considering the state people are in right now. There's a lot of shit going on and it's best to avoid it altogether.

I don't have the energy to walk a mile, much less climb a mountain, so props to Minish for his hiking exploits.

STELLA!
@lion: Twitter is the nexus of all the universe's negative energies: I certainly hope you are lucky in avoiding all that but I can't imagine that without making your account private and only choosing your follows with extreme care that you can get around that. Please come to Reality Corner if you need to try again venting about your depression, since if it came across so intensely, it seems like you bottled up the worst of it for a very long time. Don't be alone with it.

@Minish Yoshi: Your grandfather must be really hardy! I hope I am like that when I am old.

I guess I'll give it a shot. It's just that it veered into explicit mentions of sexuality. I am somewhat embarrassed of talking about my feelings anywhere that isn't on Discord DMs or with my mother.

But I'll try.

Also nice Popful Mail avatar, I'm playing the Japanese version of the SCD release rn (I can read it with assistance, at least this is a fun way to learn some Japanese). TGCD, PC98 and SNES are all different btw, it's a shame they haven't been translated yet. I intend to try them all out.

EDIT: Made the thread. Read it if you wanna cringe.

Thanks! She's a cool character and the OST has some phenomenal tracks, which is really what got me interested. I haven't gotten as far as playing them as much as I would have liked. I did start playing the SNES version a while back, but comparing the final boss to the other versions, Overlord is ridiculous in this one. The Sega CD story looked best to me. Working Designs did make the localization have cheap spots, throwing off the balance, and the script is very different (though amazingly funny, especially where Sven T. Uncommon is involved... and given what he eventually does it makes him seem more sinister and heartless having that kind of humor.)

In my fixation with the soundtrack, I have found that the Sega CD VGM rips convert far more accurately than the PC-88 and PC-98 VGM rips do with VGM2MID, though it doesn't export the percussion for those versions of this game. The SNES soundtrack cut out a few really good ones! I am torn between liking the PC-88 version's loops and the Sega CD's instrumentation and rhythm for a good amount of the tracks, so I find myself spending a lot of time trying to remix them and write in the drums by ear. I get like no time to work on them between the other stuff I take on though D:

If you really like Mail, you will probably like Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. I'd recommend the TG16 version for the incredible arrangements. In fact, Adol has quite a few gameplay commonalities with Mail like being able to attack from above by thrusting the sword down.

Just look above you...

I've been coding more and more stuff in a game engine. Doing stuff like this feels extremely surreal, most likely due to the difficulty of handling this discipline.

I've actually played every Ys game from I to V (I-III, Mask of the Sun, Dawn of Ys and V). My next Falcom game I'm planning to play after Popful Mail is Legend of Heroes 1, which has a TGCD English release with pretty bad voice acting and changed names, but I'm going with the PC98 version.

Maybe the later Windows 9x re-release, Shin Eiyuu Densetsu? Shouldn't be too hard to find where I got Legend of Heroes 3-5 PC. I wish I had the financial stability to purchase them from Falcom on Vector, DLsite, Rakuten tho... I really only pirate out of necessity.

But so far I'm thinking of playing:
* Popful Mail SCD
* Suikoden PSX <- unfinished
* Phantasy Star II MD <- unfinished
* Lunar: The Silver Star SCD
* Dragon Slayer VI: The Legend of Heroes PC98 (WIN?)
* Lunar: Eternal Blue SCD
* Wild ARMs 2 PSX <- unfinished
and then MegaMan Battle Network GBA, PoPoLoCrois Monogatari PSX and Guardian's Crusade PSX somewhere down the road in some order (PoPoLo and Guardian are unfinished)

Working Designs' difficulty fuckery and lack of respect for the original text at points when it comes to their localization choices (nothing against proper localization obviously) is one of the reasons that pushed me more towards playing JRPGs in Japanese to improve my Japanese skills.

I completely understand if someone has nostalgia for them, I just. Have my own issues. Even Arc the Lad, which felt somewhat tamer for the most part and didn't have balancing fuckery, still felt like one of those weird American anime dub filled with bad jokes.

I had to play the Japanese Saturn version of Silhouette Mirage because the American PlayStation release just sounded like a complete unfun mess in terms of balance. Sorry SNN lol

I also really like Mail tho, she reminds me of Lina Inverse but as a Knight instead of a Wizard. I always found those leotard shaped armors in anime and video games to be super sus, even when Celes and Terra had them, especially when Celes and Terra had them since Terra Is Somehow Underage And Celes Is 18????????? I do not understand their ages at all.

But Mail is just really good and if it wasn't for Tatt and Gaw surpassing her in terms of attack power at points, I'd probably only play as her lol

Christ, it’s been quite a while since I’ve come around... Some of you might see me on the Discord occasionally, but it’s been a hella long time since I’ve been on the site itself.... aside from the time I had words on eXca’s passing.

I see NoelYoshi is back too, and shit, am I happy to see you doing well, man! What perfect timing for us to make our return together lmao.

I suppose to get everyone up to speed, since I left SMWC years ago.
I’ve been in a relationship for about six years now, holding down the same retail job for about seven years, and currently seeking opportunities with a new company.

My partner lost his mom in January from a sudden stroke, and I lost my mom in May from a sudden cardiac arrest. The grieving process has sure been a long one... He and I have a house together now, though, with two beautiful and ridiculous cats, and we’re currently saving up for new furniture and future renovations.

In all, it’s a balance of trying to cope with loss, and also focusing on propelling ourselves further ahead. It’s been a pretty wild year, but we’re managing.

SMWC has been on my mind recently, what with my nostalgic rants to my partner about the kinds of things we’ve achieved in the community and within SMW hacking itself. I felt it was time to maybe get back into the swing of things. I missed you guys.

Welcome back Devazure.

I'm so sorry for the rough year you've had. I hope to come back to visit when it's safe to do so.
Hey there, welcome back! Your name definitely rings a bell, especially the one from way back in the day.

Sorry to hear you've been going through a rough time - hopefully this place still feels comfy after all those years. #tb{:)}

I am so happy that you have a stable, loving relationship and you're building a bit of a dream life there. Shocked you could bear that job at that company for so long though and glad you're ready to move on to a more fulfilling one.

You both have my condolences. Loss is hard as it is but when it's your own mother, I imagine it's a lot tougher. Mom is usually the one closest to us. If you need extra support, don't be afraid to reach out.

Welcome (to your other) home. The door is always open.
