Hack dificult and types.

Hi everyone, so first of all, I'm back after a week of inactivity because my internet contection crashed and I just got a new one (yeah..I bet nobody cares or even noticed about this.)

Whatever. I was thinking it would be nice to know what kind of hack I'm going to play beafore I donwload it, so why not allowing the uploader of a hack to precise the dificulty (from 1 to 5 or 1 to 10) and type (vanilla or chocolate) just like they precise the number of levels/exits. That way if anyone is looking for a chalenging hack or a vanilla hack they can find it easly.

However, I understand it may be hard for the uploader to give an exact opinion about the dificulty or their own hack so instead of making the hacker set it, the players could rate it just like they rate the hack.
It seems that the difficulty setting suggestion has been brought up several times recently. I am personally not particularly against it, but it doesn't seem that useful. Meh.

As for vanilla or chocolate, the screenshots will usually tell you.
Difficulty setting? Sounds nice but I probably won't use it.

As for the vanilla or chocolate, as 2technogeeks said, the screeshots will most likely tell you.

True, but it's easier if I can just see it in the hack list instead of clicking on the hack name and wait for the screenshots to load again and again untill I find what I'm looking for.
I agree with the difficulty thing. Plus, screenshots don't technically mean vanilla, since people could use things like custom sprites and not have screenshots for it.
The problem with this is that difficulty is an opinion. Imagine someone who sucks at SMW. They would think that hacks are a lot harder than some veterans would.
Yes, difficulty is too subjective. Not to mention, newbies would not have a knowledge of "vanilla" and "chocolate", and they shouldn't be required to know these terms just to submit a hack. Sure, one could put a definitions list, but....

I don't think dificulty is subjective. Sure, a noob player would find any hack is hard, but he would find some hacks are harder than others, you're not going to say someone may find the original SMW is harder than kaizo mario. Quality ratings are way more subjective because they depend on everyone's opinion, and they're still there.

And for the vanilla/chocolate problem, as you said there could be a definition, or they know what it means they could just give no answear (just like they can give no answear to the number of levels) I just sugested people should be able to precise it, I didn't said they had to be forced to.

The problem with your first point is we then get three difficulty ratings; Original SMW, Kaizo and hard (in between the two). The problem is, that wouldn't be worth differentiating, as we don't accept Kaizos to the hack section. And if you want to split it further, it does become subjective.
