I like the idea of having the first colour not blend. It really foes give it a mossy feel. You could make the level slippery and say its becuase of the moss.
Finished the level today. Here is the image.

One more level to complete, then I have to polish up old levels and test all the new stuff. It's going to be a busy week.

That looks good. The only thing I can suggest is to add more decorations like coins, as it feels bland in places.

Yeah, I'm planning to go back and polish up and revise some levels at some point. Not sure when exactly, I doubt I'll have time to do it if I want to get Demo 2 out by C3, though I really doubt that I will.

I suppose, somewhat. It's actually more like "get closer to the volcano".

Anyway, for the last level of Demo 2, I give you obligatory uninspired forest level. It's OK I guess, I just find the forest tileset and sprites to be really boring to work with.

I've got about two days to get the demo ready for C3. Oh man.

Also it's still a demo. In the completed hack I'll probably go through and completely re-do all the levels I'm not satisfied with. Y-Flip Fortress (now called Flipping Fortress to end X/Y flipping confusion) was originally something completely different.

Anyway to add more content to this post, have a totally up-to-date picture of the current overworld. Probably the only really noticable change since three months ago would be the additions to the first submap.

So yeah.

EDIT: I just remembered that testing takes ages and that my style of working sucks. Don't expect Demo 2 to come out at C3. Sorry about that. But I suppose that means I'll spend more time polishing up everything, so it's sort of a good thing I guess.

New estimated release date for Demo 2: December 2010 at the latest. Hopefully early December.

I know how you feel man. What with the fact that it has no slopes, NO FREAKING CORNERS, and you can't get much creative with the ledge platforms because there are no tiles like 146, 149, or, more importantly, any like tiles like 102 or 104 for the forest ground(yeah I know there are clouds, but that wouldn't work in most forest levels unless it's a sky forest(which I did once)).

I suggest combining trees with the grass tileset to make forest, except I know you, like me, are very orthodox about not combining tilesets or straying too far from the vanilla roots. However, I remember seeing you take advantage of LM's ability to combine tilesets once(you used cave and grass tilesets in a room), so I see no harm in making a forest level with grass ground tiles combined with forest trees.

So I've been playing through what's done, fixing up a few bugs, etc., and now I'm redoing the crappy levels. Here's an in-game screenshot of the level I'm working on right now:

Anyway, there's progress. If all goes well I'll be able to finish the last couple of levels in the next couple of weeks, and then the hack will be ripe for harvesting. I wouldn't suggest you eat it though.

This was pretty damn fast. Though I suppose it's a relatively short level, in comparison to some of the other levels I've made. Here is the new level. The old level 118 can be found here now if anybody cares about it.

So yeah, I managed to get that level done in a couple of days. Hopefully I'll be able to get the next level done soon.

I really like the use of layer 2 in that level.

So, uh, you might have noticed that there hasn't been an update in almost three weeks. Progress has been slowed down dramatically by school and general lack of motivation.

In any case, as proof that I'm actually still working on this, I've made a screenshot of the beginning of what is hopefully the last level I'll have to make before Demo 2 is ready.


I'm still hoping to get this demo out some time this month. I'm going to China on Christmas Eve so if it's not out by then, you'll have to be waiting until February next year. That's worst case scenario though, I'll probably be able to have most of everything finished over the weekend.
