Why hello there everyone! A select group of people are working on a hack to help less experienced SMW players play better called "Super Mario World For Dummies". It is designed to be an easy, helpful experience for new players. It was started by Devann, mockingod, and HyperShadow32. Here are some screenshots of the first level:

Hey, I can climb on vines!

I found a secret vine! Cool!

Hey, there's a Yoshi coin up here!

Better be careful so I don't fall!

Cool, I'm big now!

Holy crap, a Banzai Bill! What do I do?

Wow, I sure am lucky that hole was there!

Aw man, a block maze! #w{=(} Looks pretty easy though, thanks to my new skills!

And that's all we have so far for the first level. Questions and comments appreciated!

EDIT: Images fixed.
Not bad. Looks like something for AOD :P

I liked the captions like it was a new player who was playing it. I also suck at SMW pretty badly, so this might be a interesting one.
Except of the mass amount of coins for the coin trails this looks pretty good and could in fact be helpful for people wanting to get better at the game.
A video of the title screen should be coming shortly. Also, we will add some finishing touches to the hack at the end, like custom palette, asm, sprites, blocks, patches, and most importantly, music.

Just to say who is making the hack and stuff:
Devann- is the main level designer and boss.
HyperShadow32- is a secondary level designer, and also will add some finishing touches, and has made some palettes.
mockingod- Is the main beta tester for the hack, and gives good ideas for it, and also explains how to do some stuff.
MarioEdit- is the ASM guy, he add's all the patches and codes stuff.
FUGGNUTZ- basically did what he did right here >_>
Synchronizer- (im not really sure if he made an account here on smwc yet. >.<)
Nice looking hack! Looks helpful for people like me who fail at playing SMW!
Only thing I would recommend is decorating your levels a bit more..
A bit of eye-candy like a bush never hurts, as a break from featureless areas of land.
That's just my personal preference though! I'm sure others don't mind it too much!
Other than that this looks good! I'll make sure to keep my eye on this project!

As I said DarkLightVs, decorations and stuff will come at the end. We are mainly focusing on level design right now.

I'm here. :)
Here's a vid of the title screen:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Bs31umU_N7g&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Bs31umU_N7g&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

The vid is cutoff by one second.
For the moment, We are currently working on getting level 1 as simple as possible. We are trying to get more than 2 info boxes per level.
It's kind of hard to have a tutorial hack if the levels have to be long, because you use those 2 real fast...

Anyway... Yup.
ADMINS PLEASE MAKE E-MAIL NOTIFICATIONS A THING I BEG OF YOU
Well, did you note that...in the title screen vid, Mario's jump sound sounds weird? I mean, it sounds weird to me. Or it's just my ears that are tricking me.
I found myself laughing hysterically at that, I don't know why.
Mario's jump sound doesnt sound weird to me... Any bad quality in the video was caused by my suckish computer.
Concept is decent, but are two styles of "used" blocks necessary?

Additionally, I'd like to see more uses of land other than flat, and large block formations.

My Grandma could use this... she's terrible at SMW. She can't even get past Yoshi's Island 3. I however can beat it in 13min 16 sec so don't expect me to play this... :P
ccol. looks like a good hack. I'll be able to beta test it when it's ready if you want.
Not useful to me but useful for other people who can't get past the first few levels. Although it has been done before, those never got finished so I hope you will finish this.
Yay! My lil' brother will need it to learn how to play. He liked SMW, but it's kinda hard for him #w{=)}
I love this idea, can I help on something ?
Here's more updated screenshots of the first level. We added a portion of the title level to put a little more variety. Also, thanks to the coders on the team, we have messages that appear under certain circumstances to give it a more tutorial feel. Screenshots:

Intro to the hack

Intro to the first level

Mario gets a mushroom

The player learns to clear gaps

Mario gets a fire flower

The player prepares for his first challenge: Banzai Bills

That's all for now. We'll keep you updated.
