edit2: Um, I am a bit of a loss here.
Exanimation graphic files are slightly different from normal ones, as you can't simply put 16x16 block in like that, you have to put them in one line. Something like this:

12 --> 1234
34

Anyway, I really don't know how to explain this to you in any more detail then what the tutorial already does. (the one I linked mind you). Just make sure you go through it step by step rather than skipping to whatever section you care upfront.

It has to be a 4kb file, much like all the other 4bpp graphic files (eg 8 rows of 8x8 tiles)

Am I doing this right? I pressed the P-Switch, but the brick blocks still didn't turn into coins.

You probably want A frames instead of 1 so that it shows the first 10 frames when the P-Switch isn't pressed, and the last 10 frames when it is pressed.
