VWF Dialogues Patch v1.2

Hey, uh, I got one question about this patch. If this hasn't been answered already, I want to know this. I heard this patch overwrites the use of message blocks, but does it still allow you to use the sprites that the VWF cutscene tool itself uses? In other words, with this patch, is it still possible to create still cutscenes with those empty backgrounds and such?

This is optional. It only overwrites the regular message blocks if you enable that option in the patch.

Yeah, this patch shouldn't conflict with Romi's tool in any way, so it should work without any problem.

Ok, your patch works perfect, however...

I inserted a sprite made by yoshicookiezeus ("Display Level Message 2, by yoshicookiezeus") and put it in the Intro level. Now, this patch was tweaked by iRhyiku to made the borders and frame go invisible. For some strange reason, once the intro message ends, the level fades and goes to to the OW, however it goes were its not supposed to.

Here, this is what I mean:

This is how it looks when I haven't inserted the sprite. It teleports me to the right starting position.


This is how it looks with the sprite inserted. It teleports me to a random position.

That's because I removed the part that sets Mario's overworld position from the sprite, so that it would be usable in normal levels. Nothing to do with the patch.

Ok, i didn't know that I was just assuming since it only occurs when I use that sprite in the Intro level (C5), its fine in any other level.

So how would I fix this exactly now?

I'm not sure how to fix this, since I don't know the code of that generator (you can post it here if you want), but I wanted to give you a hint: If you want "invisible" text box background and frame you don't have to change the actual bg and frame numbers, you just have to select box creation style 4 (I think) in the header. That style automatically makes the bg and frame invisible.

...any particular reason why you can't just use the normal Display Level Message 1 sprite in the intro?

If there is, you will have to use all.log to find the part of the code that handles setting Mario's overworld position and add it into the sprite.

Well, i'm using it because it because it because iRhyiku tweaked it and gave it to me to make the Frame and borders around the text disappear.

If there's another way of getting rid of the borders and Frames without using that sprite (that iRhyiku tweaked), can someone please tell me.

You just have to edit the dialogue header. The box creation style to be exact. I think you have to set it to 4 (0100 in binary). It's all in the Readme, so just reread the section about dialogue headers if you can't figure it out.

This is random. I get a weird Sliver P-Switch glicth. If I press it, everything freezes. Every patch that's usually in my hack never did this, but adding your patch in the mix and the Silver P-Switch freezes everything. Did you test it, in the case mentioned above?
Edit: No, it's not it. I must have applied a sort of patch that has this weird thing happened as a side effect.
The blue P-Switch works and it has the old SMW P-Switch music. The Silver one has the exact same song and it crashes.
Weird. I don't think it has to do with this patch, though. At least I can't imagine how this patch would cause that. But I'll look into this tomorrow.

I'd like to ask...is this patch compatible with Carol's More.bin patch, right?...Because I just want to port my hack to a new ROM, so I patched all the patches I wanted (including Carol's N-SPC patch, it worked well). I left the VWF Dialogues for the last place, I had plenty of free space, so I pointed it to free space (there were 2 totally blank banks), and patched. But after I entered a level which used a song with the $E5 command, the music crashed. The patch works fine, though...just the music.
I have no idea what could be the problem. Maybe I wasn't enough attentive and didn't notice something obvious. But if I can't use these two patches together (Carol's N-SPC and VWF Dialogues), I'll be very sad. :(
I don't know for sure. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I don't disqualify the possibility (does this sentence make any sense?). Probably a hijack conflict, like perviously with Romi's Addmusic. If someone has the ASM sourcecode of Carol's More.bin I could take a look.
