Well, today, Obama said that Iraq War is officially over. I know it was all for oil, but i'm glad it's over.

Took long enough.
Also, if most of the money if moved to afganastan, then that war should theoretically end sooner if all goes as planned.
Did they announce this long before the speech? Because I heard absolutely NOTHING beforehand. It seemed kinda arbitrary. :O

About time.

Finally, it's really dumb fighting over oil anyways.

Doesn't that sound too good to be true? I'm not sure I believe it.
There's still 5000 solders over there, who knows how long it will take for them to leave.
I don't think there lying, they have no reason to.
I can almost guarantee there will be another terrorist attack right after all of the soldiers leave, thus, starting the war AGAIN.

The stupidity in this quote exudes right of my monitor. Also, too bad there still have to be 50,000 left behind there, I hope it's rather their choice (as in they applied to be an advisor) than by force.

I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
Yeah, seriously FUGGNUTZ, do you have any evidence, knowledge, wisdom, or experience at all to back that statement up?

Not all middle-easterns are terrorists. Lots of innocent people over there.

I don't know much on the subject, nor do I have much of an opinion on it, besides "good", so I'd better just keep my mouth shut.

Your layout has been removed.
What I'm saying is that when we leave Iraq, Al'Qaeda (or however you spell it) will try to attack again, so we will probably have to go back.

Well, terrorist attacks happen all over the globe, not necessarily by Al-Qaeda. I believe it's safe to say that in the near future, there will be some sort of attack in the future by some party because of the inevitable conflicting of beliefs. I mean, already I can feel the tension created by the book burning.
There is, in some way or another conflict in the world which will escalate and due to human nature, spark a war of some kind.
Also, FUGGNUTZ wasn't being as close minded as he was simply analyzing the past, it was merely a simple hypothesis.
Right now they're offending us (The Netherlands) for our politics, they want a certain group not to be in our government.
I swear, if they dare to even put hands on our country, I'll make sure that entire land and orginisation is being swept off the Earth's surface.

I hope the entire world will declair war to them if they try one more thing!

Do you honestly really think this war was started for just oil? You have a lot to learn my naive friend. You and so many ignorant Americans are in the dark. It's sad. There are more to things than meets the eye.
Obama is lying to us all. He said all of the troops will be out of Iraq by August 2011, but my sister's boyfriend is getting sent there in September 2011. I feel betrayed by our president.

Regarding health care costs, the $50-$60 billion a year the plan is estimated to cost was intended to be covered by no longer extending the Bush tax cuts for those who make over $250,000 a year. Essentially, the Bush tax cuts gave everyone a tax cut, but gave an additional tax cut for those at the very top. The discontinuation of that additional cut was the plan to pay for it, and considering the record profits Fortune 500 companies are now reporting at the very top, no longer having these additional cuts represents no huge risk.

I'd say requiring the very rich to pay taxes still less than what they had to in 1999 is a small price to pay for preventing insurance companies from dropping patients because they were pregnant or had asthma, providing health care to children, and saving the average household $2,500 a year with decreased health care costs (which in turn generates more money they can spend, which is critical considering the US maintains a 70% consumer-based economy. Remember that the issue right now is not supply, but lack of demand)

Back to the topic at hand, the primary argument for invading Iraq was made by Colin Powell as he addressed the United Nations. It was from ignorance: because we cannot prove Iraq has stopped development of WMD's after recent sanctions, they must be developing and planning to use them (because we cannot find any situation of not X, we must assume X). That argument and the faulty evidence (the leader of the FBI who provided this intelligence later backed down from it) in itself, backed up further by us not discovering WMD's at all, helps to explain the useless and unnecessary embarrassment by the US that is the Iraq war.

Regarding Democrats voting for the war and such, the vote on authorizing Bush to declare war was made as a gesture to the UN so they would pass a resolution providing aid and forces against Iraq, assisting us (which of course fell through). Many of these Democrats wanted not for Bush to declare war against Iraq, but for this gesture to be made to the UN. I agree it was a stupid decision on their part, but consider that as well as the fact that 23 Democratic senators voted against the authorization.

For the time being, we still have 50,000 peacekeeping troops in the area, which will gradually draw down. In Iraq, we have simply gotten rid of the combat troops. moltensnow, I wish the best for your sister's boyfriend, am proud of his service, and hope he comes how safely. Since I don't know extensively about his own situation or about the current status of activities in Iraq, it's hard to gauge whether or not these additional troops are necessary, but to me adding more, including him, seems pretty ridiculous.

It's illusory to think that Obama would be hailed as a savior for all of this. First of all, there's still the peacekeeping troops, so it really isn't "over" and second, we haven't seen any huge display of public appreciation. Frankly, people don't care. Many are out of work or struggling financially, so the war itself seems detached and, in their view, does not apply to them. And besides, Obama doesn't get credit for the things he does. Wall Street Reform, appointing two Supreme Court Justices, passing budgets, health care, providing numerous tax cuts, investment in infrastructure, improving the college loan system, moving us a step closer toward equal pay for equal work, etc. There are numerous lousy things he's done too, including failing to get the moratorium in the Gulf through, now arguing against DADT after the recent court case, dropping the ball on the public option, etc, etc. Though he doesn't get credited for the things he does accomplish, and Iraq as a solid example of it.
Its over after nine years or so. or 6 i lost count
