I am sure some of you remember the recent episode where someone registered as "SNN Fucked a Monkey" (or similar) and posted offensive images on the forum.
We had problems finding out who the person behind these offenses was because he was behind a proxy - or so the offender thought.
In reality, though, most proxy services exist to let you browse websites that would otherwise be blocked due to firewall restrictions and whatnot. Looking a little closer, you will even find that most of them have policies against abuse.
Please know that we log all access attempts, so it is possible for us to go back and see what page views a certain IP address has performed and when.
Now, with these two things in mind, I simply sent an e-mail to the owner of the proxy service containing data related to the offending user, and after a small exchange, I got his IP address.
And the user turned out to be Maxwell.
The moral of the story is that we do not want to put up with attacks like these, and we will put effort into finding the person behind them, and there will be consequences.
