1a) Do NOT flame or troll
Flaming is "an online argument that becomes nasty or derisive, where insulting a party to the discussion takes precedence over the objective merits of one side or another". Basically, getting into a mudslinging argument. Trolling is where a user tries to coax other users into flaming. Flaming will get you suspended, constant flaming and/or trolling will most likely get you banned.
1b) Keep outside disputes outside
If someone is harassing you over AIM/MSN, this is not the place to get a solution. We cannot deal with anything outside of SMW Central. Likewise, don't let outside arguments boil over into SMW Central.
1c) You may not register more than one account
However, there is one exception. If you have a family member that wishes to register as well, you should contact a staff member for an OK. This counts as reregistering because the two accounts will look like they're the same person (because they will be from the same computer), which is why we want notice.
Section 2: Posting habits
2a) Do NOT SPAM
Spamming is the act of posting messages that have little relevance or point, especially to the topic at hand. If you keep posting offtopic replies, or advertisements to your site outside of the World of Insanity board, you'll be suspended, or even banned.
2b) Don't multipost
Make your topic once, and use the edit function instead of a new reply if you want to add something to a post you just made.
2c) Don't steal bandwidth
If you really need to post a large image, put it on your own hosting first, or ImageShack. Don't hotlink images from someone else's Photobucket account or web hosting.
2d) Please keep your postings in the relative boards
Put your SMW hacking stuff in the SMW hacking boards, for example. We have multiple boards for a reason.
2e) Don't bump old threads without reason
Generally, threads should stay dormant/dead if nobody has made a reply after a month. There are exceptions to this, but in general, please don't do it.
2f) Only embed when necessary
Posting embeds of MP3s and YouTube videos without reason or warning in the thread title will result in your posts being edited, and if this is a constant problem, you will be banned. Remember: we have users still on dial-up. Also, don't forget you can link to the relevent YouTube in your post instead of embedding it.
2g) Please try to proofread your message before posting
Having a clear, well-written post will make it easier for everyone else to read and respond to your message. So before you press the "Submit" button, please double check your post for any spelling or grammar problems, and please try not to use any "netspeak". If your post is unreadable garbage, you run a high risk of being banned.
2h) Look for existing threads first
Many threads with topics like "lol look at this youtube video" can be fit into another, existing thread. Look for them, they're usually stickied so they appear on the top of the thread list all the time.
2i) Do NOT backseat moderate
. It makes you look like a total idiot, especially when you're wrong. In the case of a thread posting in a wrong forum, don't post for the sole reason
to tell that the thread needs to be moved - a moderator can make that decision just fine.
Section 3: Content Restrictions
3a) No explicit content without warning
No adult-oriented material is allowed without warning others ahead of time with '(NSFW)' in the thread title or similar. This includes any form of pornography or nudity. This also includes textually explicit postings. Posting explicit content for no reason or purely for the sake of offending others will result in a PERMANENT IP BAN from SMW Central!
3b) No illegal material
No illegal material can be posted. This includes warez (illegal software), cracks (edits to software to make them fully functioning), and ROMs. Emulators, freeware/homebrew ROMs, and .IPS patches are fine to post. Posting any illegal material will result in a PERMANENT IP BAN from SMW Central!
3c) No excessive swearing
No words are filtered, so you can post whatever you want to. Don't do it in poor taste though, or you'll just get made fun of.
3d) No advertisement outside of your signature
Do not make a thread or a post dedicated solely to advertising your (or another's) website. Please leave that stuff in your signature.
Section 4: Guidelines for Specific Areas of SMW Central
4a) Please, read the FAQ before posting!
FAQ stands for "Frequently Asked Questions", and your question is most likely already answered in the FAQ on this site. This will save both the other users here from a hassle, and get you an answer much sooner.
4b) Do NOT post crappy YouTube videos of one-level SMW Hacks
This is very annoying. This rule is even mentioned in the forum description for the SMW Hack Discussion board! To reiterate: POSTING CRAPPY YOUTUBE VIDEOS IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT IPBAN!!
4c) Do NOT vandalize the Wiki
Replacing article entries with advertisements or slander will get you a PERMANENT IP BAN on the Wiki. So don't do it. Ever!
4d) Don't submit crappy content
Don't submit buggy hacks, don't submit horrible ExGFX, and don't submit glitchy custom blocks/sprites. They will be deleted. Consistently re-submitting bad content will get you banned.
4e) World of Insanity is NOT the focus of this site
Don't post exclusively in this forums. It does not make you look good at all. It is there to allow users to unwind a little, not vomit mass amounts of crap posts.
Section 5: Your Profile
5a) Avatars can't be bigger than 125x125 pixels AND/OR 100 KB
Large images (dimension-wise) as avatars wreck havoc with the board layout, so they are not allowed. Large images (file size-wise) are also not allowed, as it increases the load time for users on slower internet connections. If your avatar is too big, it will be removed. If you keep adding it back, you will probably be banned.
5b) No HTML abuse in bio/layout/posts
We have protection in place for stuff like this, but attempts to do it anyway will get you banned.
5c) Do NOT put plain text in your post header
The header is for putting HTML and custom styles into your posts, not to put random stupid text. If you are caught with such a header, your post layout will be nuked.
5d) Do NOT make your post layout an eyesore
If you can't read your posts with your layout, chances are nobody else can. Having such a layout will get it nuked.
5e) Double check your post layout HTML before updating your profile
Broken layout code can wreck havoc with the site layout. Please, proofread your code before submitting updates. Broken layouts will be instantly nuked.
5f) Don't turn your profile into a personal webpage
Yes, you can use HTML in your Bio field. No, do not use it to override any CSS, or mask any links. If you do, your profile will be nuked.
