I was curious, so I made this. Post your favourite album/s here. The idea is that it's something that you can just put into the CD player / load up in iTunes / Winamp, set it to shuffle, and listen to continuously. Also, "best of" compilations don't really count. They are kind of made with the intention of being "amazing".

Anyways, my favourite album would probably be Metallica's album Metallica. Every song on it is amazing, with Enter Sandman and The Unforgiven as personal favourites.

Another high ranking one would be Nightwish's Once album, which, once again, I love every song of. Dark Chest of Wonders and Ghost Love Score are some more personal favourites. Ghost Love Score should also be recognisable to most people here.

To escape from metal and enter the realm of hard rock, AC/DC's Back in Black album is pretty good as well, with Hell's Bells and You Shook Me All Night Long being my favourite songs from it.

And finally for good measure and honourable mention, I recently (as in about half an hour ago) listened to Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon album, and that was beyond words. Bonus points for the science they've got going on the cover. I wouldn't recommend listening to it on shuffle though, since that kind of kills it.

So yeah. What are your favourites?
Ohh, great thread. So let's see..
Probably my most favorite album is Images and Words by Dream Theater. I just love all the songs in it, Pull me Under and Metropolis Part 1 are all time classics for me, and most of the songs are brilliantly well made. The last track in the album (Learning to Live) is my No. 1 favorite DT song (beside Octavarium). I also have a T-shirt with the album's cover on it.
Another choice could be For Lack of a Better Name by Deadmau5 (it's interesting how I love both progressive rock and house-techno, but I don't think it's a problem). Soma, The 16th Hour, FML and Strobe...so many great mixes in one album. The songs are fluently continued by each other, which is a great thing in my opinion. How many times did I ask the owner of the gym I visited to put this album in the player...
If we count video game albums too, then there are a lot of other favorites too. I listen to Touhou music a lot, and the soundtrack of Subterranean Animism is the top for me, probably. Second would be the OST of Imperishable Night.
But I love the soundtrack of Final Fantasy IV, V, VI (nostalgic, artistic and beautiful), Need for Speed: Most Wanted (so many cool songs, in my opinion this NFS had the greatest soundtrack), DKC series (no wonder), Seiken Densetsu 3, and lots of, lots of more.
Favorite album is far too ridiculous to even attempt, however it seems that the idea is more to name those albums that you feel are totally solid, as in every single song is golden and doesn't harm the overall listening experience in any way. In that case, I have a few:

!!! - Louden Up Now
Brian Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Le Orme - Felona e Sorona
Paul Simon - Graceland
Pink Floyd - Meddle

All of these albums are incredible from start to finish, without a single unwanted lull to be found. Even in PF's Meddle, as much as I don't care for Seamus on its own - the song is just annoying - it fits the context of the album so well, and the album seems rather lost without it, so yea...
The Perfect Element Part 1 by Pain of Salvation. A true work of pure genius and amazing song writing really, each song just as amazing as the last. A few personal favorite songs for me would be In the Flesh, Morning on Earth, Reconciliation, and the title track.

Another favorite would be Ghost Reveries by Opeth, probably the only band with death metal vocals that I like. I don't really have much else to say about this, but it's really just something I can listen to and never get tired of.

Lastly I would say Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree. An album about the truth of the modern world, really.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Operation Ivy by Operation Ivy (it's actually their full discography, it fits on one disc)
Suffer by Bad Religion
Group Sex by Circle Jerks
Damaged by Black Flag
Kid A by Radiohead
You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
The Clash by The Clash
The Feeding of the Five Thousand by Crass
13 Songs by Fugazi
Rated R by Queens of the Stone Age

There's a sampling of some of my favourites. If it isn't fast, loud, angry, and simple, it better be unusual or dissonant.

Albums... there are many but I can't list them all.

Well, I like Pink Floyd, and my favorite album is The Dark Side of the Moon. I have it, and it's very cool.

Now I need to change my old avatar. Or not.
Probably Rust in Peace by Megadeth. That album was metal perfection.

^ This plus every other Pink Floyd album ever. Lots of respect earned for that one, CP and Dangus.

My personal favorite albums are The Wall and Animals, with DSoM sitting at a distant third. You can't beat Us and Them though :)

Favorite songs are Us and Them (DSoM), Comfortably Numb (The Wall), and Dogs (Animals).

HELL YEAH and you can't forget Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory.

Another album I quite enjoy is The Black Halo by Kamelot.

Yeah. I don't listen to much honestly. Normally I enjoy particular songs, but not entire albums. There's always a few that let it down, really. Eh, nothing's perfect.

Sorry for the extremely late reply (I wanted to do it earlier, but somehow I always managed to forget it), but when I saw that you posted in this thread, I knew you'll notice my pick. =) DT rocks!
Oh yeah, Scenes From A Memory is cool too, Overture 1928 is my favorite song from it, probably. I didn't pick that, because I don't know it as much as Images and Words, but actually I really like it too.

Also, Kamelot is great too! It's nice to see that a few people know that great band here. I haven't heard many songs from them, but my favorite one would be "Epica", mostly because Center of the Universe. It's an epic and awesome song, I love it years ago and I will for years, that's for sure! =)

Megadeth - Risk
Exodus - Force of Habit

Don't care if it's pretentious to like it. Haters gonna hate.

We can be pretentious together.

"YOUR BALLS. THE MICROWAVE."
Well...
Big Ones of Aerosmith (actually, Get a Grip would be the right one), but pretty much i listen to singles, not albums. Also System of a Down's Toxicity is cool too.

Another one is The Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd. Prog rock, and the final words ("There is no dark side in the moon, really. As a matter of fact it's all dark"). Just epic. It helps that i lvoe prog rock.

75% of what i like falls in the range of rock-metal /_\

Okay, I can't believe I forgot Nirvana's In Utero. Absolutely their best album, it combines the heavyness of Bleach with a bit of the pop sensibilities of Nevermind and a nice dose of Sonic Youth-style noise and dissonance, definitely Nirvana's best and most emotional album.
Speaking of emotional albums, I don't know why, but I really like Weezer's Pinkerton just because it is very honest, although it is contradictory and strange, it feels very true, and this was later reflected in Rivers' hatred of it because of bad reviews, he felt really overexposed and stopped making good music.

Also, Everything Goes Numb by Streetlight Manifesto is a fine example of modern ska-punk.

Damn, i don't normally remember albums, just the songs, so this is a bit hard for me.

Band:Album-songs in specific interest (special interest)

AC/DC: Back in Black- Back in Black, Hell's Bells, Shoot to thrill.
AC/DC: Dirty deeds done dirt cheap-(title), Big balls, Rocker,
Avenged Sevenfold: City of Evil- Bat Country, M.I.A., Strength of the world, Burn it down.

Iron Maiden: I would say somewhere back in time, but it's a dam complication album, so i'm gonna have to go with
The number of the Beast- The Prisoner, Number of the beast, Gangland, Invaders

Guns N' Roses: Appetite for Destruction- Welcome to the jungle, It's so easy, night train, paradise city, Anything goes, Rocket Queen.
Metallica: Kill 'Em All- Four Horseman, Seek and Destory
Metallica: ...And justice for all- (Title), One, Harvester of Sorrow
Metallica: Master of Puppets- (Title), Battery, The thing that should not be, Disaposable Heroes(don't click on that), Damage Inc.

I would say something from Megadeth, but i only have complication albums, so I don't know what album has:
Prince of Darkness, Machanix, Sweating Bullets, A Tout De Monde, Holy Wars...The Punishment Due, Gears of war, Insomnia
Well, pretty much like a few people who posted here, I prefer listening to tracks individually instead of checking out an entire album. If I had to pick a favorite album, though, it would probably be the Back In Black album by ACDC as well, because the quality of the songs in it is amazing. Second pick would probably be Guns's Appetite For Destruction, because it's got Mr. Browstone + Paradise City + Welcome To The Jungle + Sweet Child 'O Mine in it, which, needless to say, makes it an excellent choice. Also, Dire Straits's Sultans of Swing has got some pretty great songs in it as well.

Oh, and it's time I listened to The Dark Side of the Moon - my friend has been bugging me forever for me to check it out.
I'd also like to add Surfing With the Alien by Joe Satriani. This album has everything: fast, bluesy guitar to slow, melodic guitar. Go buy it now.
