The Leafs are 3-0-0.

thread over

In all seriousness, I assume all the 'regulars' for hockey fanbase here at SMWC will be cheering for the same teams as always, but what're your predictions for the year/who do you think'll win the cup?

The guys on TSN's predictions were: Chicago, Detroit, Detroit, and Washington.

I dunno. I doubt Chicago will repeat, and I don't really see Detroit winning again. I guess Washington might be able to do it, but they never seem to be clutch come playoff time.

I would say go Flyers, being as I live in Philadelphia, but I knew from the beginning that the Blackhawks were shit. And if you lose to the Blackhawks for the cup, you're a fucked up team. Therefore, I dunno. Go Penguins?

LET'S GO BUFFALO!

Even though we're 1-2-1 ATM... :\
Is the Anaheim Ducks still in this? (Fromerly called "Anaheim Mighty Ducks") Well... I'm Swedish but I've always liked them =)

Haha, the Flyers got trashed 5-1 by the Penguins. Hilarious.

Eh, they'll choke like they did a couple years ago. They had a reputable record at the start of the season, but in the end they fell short of the playoffs.... as always.

In all seriousness, I don't see Detroit having much of a chance of winning the cup. Most of their roster is indeed experienced, however most of them have got to be close to retiring age. Chicago, again a not. Most of their team got traded off after the 09/10 campaign. Washington is a maybe, however they do have a lacking in terms of experience, or playoff experience rather. I mean, they make it to the post season every time however they almost always make a first or second round exit. I mean look at last year when they got put out by Montreal, I thought for sure that would have been an easy win for Washington. Although I was wrong.

If there is any team that I feel that has a realistic chance it would be Colorado (no, I'm not switching teams) based on their balance of experience both young and old. I mean the first year rookies look good this year, and they did very well last year. Eh I dunno, I'll leave that up for discussion.

As for the team I support: Go Canucks! Of course it's the start of the season which means that I'll have to wait until the mid-end of December to see the win column start to stack up. I like the Canucks; however I hate the fact that it takes them a month (Luongo in particular) to get in the groove. Eh, hopefully that changes this year.

2-2-1 at the moment, which isn't too bad.

Edit: @RivalNightmare: Yeah they're still in the league, however not as well and kicking since they won the Stanley Cup. At least that's what I find.

Fixed. That is all.

Seriously, I've been looking forward to this for about two weeks (when baseball season ended.)

I was really surprised that the Blackhawks pulled a couple games out of their ass for once and won the Cup. I don't expect they'll repeat (unless the Flyers crack under pressure again and the Penguins go on a 10-game skid or something), and Detroit is past it's prime. Washington is the most feasible to win out of that group.

Pittsburgh is 4-3-0, yay?

You know me if you know me.
I have the feeling that Vancouver might just make it to the finals this year, for sure, if only Rick Rypien would stop bashing Minnesota Wild fans.

Well, I'm hoping the Flyers do some good. Who knows? We might get lucky. There's a part in me that still roots for the Flyers, even if they lost to Chicago. I hope for the best from them.
I'll be listening to or watching the Leafs @ Flyers game.

Awesome.

E-Man, all I'm saying is that it's better than 0-7-1. Stupid last season, heh.

And yeah, Saturday should be great. I really like the Flyers (especially Danny Briere), but I'll of course be cheering for the Leafs as hard as possible.

I've been to half of a hockey game, seen about 10 minutes total on TV, and I saw The Mighty Ducks.

There. That's my total hockey experience.

I see you looking at my sig. You're just jealous.

I'll agree to that. Yeah I'll admit that I was surprised to see them come out as a 4-0-0 team (well 4-1-1 now), after last season. I give Burke credit for what he has done in a single season.

Rick Rypien ... bashing Minnesota Wild fans.

Ah, that was plain awesome to see. The Minnesota fan was honestly asking for it by lippin' him after the fights on the ice. I was honestly hoping for a moment similar to what happened to Tie Domi so many years ago; just wishful thinking. Eh, the downside to this is that Rypien's gone for 6 games. D:

...And with around 5:00 left in the third, I'm fairly certain that the Canucks have been able to beat the Wild. They'll be needing something to hold on to after the shootout loss on Wednesday. Man some of those shootout goals were absolutely brutal; they just barely trickled in the net. Ah well, you can't win 'em all.

I swear if Minnesota somehow ties it and sends it to overtime, I will never be able to forgive myself.

So the Devils made Kovalchuk a healthy scratch last night. WTF.

Admittedly, it was against my Sabres, so that's a good thing.

Well, the thing is, is that they were desperate, they lost 3 games in a row.(Late reply)

Yeah, that's true. The slump that they were in was brutal; but like I said they have a tendency to have that problem with a slow start (even later reply).

Also, it sucks that the Canucks lost last night. I mean they had a nice win streak going: about 5 or 6 games. Of all teams it had to be Montreal; although I give a lot of credit to Carry Price for his performance.

Oh, and Kristian, Saturday night/afternoon: Canucks vs. Leafs. May the better team win.

And by better, I do mean the Canucks.

Yeah, it was 6 wins straight, but yeah, Carry Price did some amazing saves, and the Canucks did a wicked job on the PK during the 4 minute power play.

~Le sigh. Oh well, they at least get a single point out of the deal.

Next up on the Eastern Conference tour: the Pens. They should have a decent chance at winning that game. Here's hoping anyways.
