This is brilliant. Two of my favorite series combined into one sure-to-be-amazing game. All I've seen/heard so far aside from the trailer is that it's being released for the 3DS, and that Shu Takumi (the main developer of the core Ace Attorney series) is in charge of writing the game's scenario.
The official Japanese site is http://layton-vs-gyakuten.jp/. It has the trailer, a couple updated Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright themes playing in the background, some pictures, and trailers for older games in both series.
I honestly wasn't expecting this at all, and I'm really looking forward to it. I only got into the Phoenix Wright series earlier this year, but Trials and Tribulations is definitely up there as one of my favorite games of all-time. So this really blew my mind when I found out about it!
We got the plot, but since I only found it in French, I made my little shitty traduction.
The two hero will meet in another dimension, Middle Ages like, and in the street of Labyrith City, where the reality and the fake are the same, where is magic is true and where the mages hide in the dark.
Labyrinth City is managed by a man named "The Storyteller", who can see the future. Layton will face him when Phoenix Wright will defend a man accused of witchcraft ...
I first saw this earlier today, and needless to say, it looks awesome. I've never tried the Layton games yet (though I want to) and of course I've played all the PW games, but it looks like a perfect combination. After all, from what I've heard Layton games have great puzzles and investgations (unlike PW) but PW has great court stuff... looking forward to seeing how that blends together.
I have to admit I'm slightly confused about the timeline, not that it matters. Considering his badge, it's clear Phoenix hasn't been disbarred yet, and Maya would be a whole lot older if this happened after he got his badge back. Who knows, and better yet, who cares? I can't wait for this.
If I don't get this in America, I will be learning Japanese and getting the Japanese version. Layton is one of my favorite protagonists in one of my favorite game series ever. I have nothing else to say but that this game will be the best of all time.
... This had better as hell be released stateside. I've never played any Ace Attorney game, but I've played and loved Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, and this seems like it's gonna be a great game.
I had heard from this a while ago. I'm still in a state of awe; this is amazing! I've never played much Layton but it makes me all the more interested. Also, Maya's finally involved again after not having starred in Apollo Justice and Investigations. Overall, I'm pumped! I'll buy it on its release. :3
... Yeeeah, I'm probably going to ask for a Pheonix Wright game when Christmas roles around. I've been considering playing those games before seeing this, and this just makes them look even more awesome.
Wasn't crazy about the one Professor Layton game I played. However, I am a big fan of the Ace Attorney series. I think I'll have to get this game if it's ever localized. The cinematics look very awesome, especially the burning city.
