So I was watching this video
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WfIrNHuPuhQ?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x402061&color2=0x9461ca"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WfIrNHuPuhQ?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x402061&color2=0x9461ca" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
And, this website could be in danger because of the government. What do you think of this?
</div></div>
Whoa...think what would happen if some on could claim Copyright Infringement on SMWC, i think it would be pretty convincing for the judge...Wow....

Good thing I live in the UK *Phew*

Well, apparently, that page wouldn't matter. As long as someone can convince a judge, they don't need evidence. Meaning,
stupid judges = no more internet. The judge wouldn't even have to look at it.

I think you should have at least a little more faith in judges.

Judges don't get to be judges for no reason. They know what is right and what is wrong when making important decisions.

I don't think they'll be that ready to take down websites just like that.

I'm probably retired tbh
If this website ever gets reported for copyright, we'd better have Pheonix Wright on the case. Heh-heh, just kidding.

Anyway, this is probably the dumbest bill that I've heard of. The internet was made to be a free place for the whole world to use. Where we can do basically whatever we want. But now, of course, like everything else, the government is ruining it.

Yeah, but when it's companies who are doing the accusing, it can also be the companies doing the bribing.....

Good thing Kieran lives in Denmark, and this site is hosted there too.
So basicly we can say, sorry America but this site is in another castle country.

Altough, it might screw up the community abit if America would block it.
Then again, we could probably just start up a proxy for smwcentralians from America. Also, there are probably tons of ways to bypass such filter (like babel fish translation, google cache).

Calm down already! You're getting worried over IFs! Ifs are not facts. They are possible alternate events. And right now, you're getting worried over HUGE ifs. All these ifs stem from judges being incompetent. ZMann is entirely correct. Judges don't get to be judges if they are incompetent and just let one side win immediately just for screaming "COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT!!!". And if they do, you can expect them to be disbarred and their ruling overturned. Their job is to make rulings based on the law, and the last time I checked, the law still says we need proof to back up our claims if we're attacking someone in court. They can't win by using the association fallacy (x did something bad, x is associated with y, therefore, y did the same thing, too), they need actual proof. Otherwise, the judge can and will throw out the case. Or otherwise rule in favor of the defendant.

Ultimaximus, that is the biggest if I've seen here, and one that makes 0 sense at all. Judge gets bribed? Someone will find out eventually, and then the police will arrest the briber and the judge, and the ruling will be overturned. You cannot circumvent the law. At all.

Really, stop being worried about all the ifs. As I said, it's all based on the assumption/worry that judges will be stupid, and if they were, they wouldn't be judges. Have some faith in the Judicial System of the US. >_> I mean, c'mon, look at the SUPREME COURT trial concerning violent videogames that is being heard right now. The justices there are being very smart, asking all the right questions, bringing up all possible issues. How can you be worried that judges are dumb when there is proof that they try to get all possible information on the case during the trial?
<Adam> I feel like smwc is a prostitute now, because we put up a porn ad for money
The problem isn't just judges. People violate copyrights EVERYWHERE. It takes just one or two. It would possibly mean very few American hackers due to ROM sites (and possibly this site) being banned from America. I'm sure that's not so tragic to some of you. =_=' Just another way my country's ruining itself and its freedoms.
I've realized this was outdated.
In Soviet Russia there is no copyright infringment.

If this does get passed then it might end up like that one admendment that illegalized the sale of alcohol in America. Then they had to make another admendment to repeal that one.

Plus, that would mean that the Government could limit our supply of news sources and infring our Right to Free Speach.

Europeans own.

Oh wait, I shouldn't turn this into a Europe vs. America thread.

While a agree with the premise of the video (I'm against most forms of internet regulation), they couldn't have picked a worse way of putting it across. This makes me think that whoever wrote it is a moron. "If they can convince a judge that your blog has copyrighted material when it doesn't, it can be blocked". Really? Do you think before you talk? (Or write as it were). That's one of the stupidest arguments I've ever heard. And then: "Don't let the old people in washington decide for us". If that's not catering to the masses I don't know what is. As usual, I'm giving a big face palm to humanity.
You see, this is why I hate China. It's worse than Nazi Germany... But at least it isn't killing other races, which is a redeeming point (the only one)

Seriously. You realize the wrath of the current electorate if they freaking blocked YOUTUBE?!

Yeah, that's just not gonna happen.
I'm just going to be honest... if this bill truly passes, all people on Congress have to do is say that "this website contains (insert reason of illegal activity)" and no more website.
