I might as well crosspost this here: A translated and fixed version of VIP 5 has been released over on the talkhaus. Go check it out if you're into that sort of thing - VIP 5 is definitely the one entry of the series that has the broadest appeal, so I'd personally recommend giving it a try!

I've played a good amount of SIG's hacks (1, 3-24) and really enjoy them and remind me a lot of playing the original game with a bit more challenging levels.

I know however that SIG does remake a lot of his earlier hacks and remakes them in newer hacks of his. Here's a list of some of the hacks that are remakes:

13: Remake of 1
16: Remake of 2
18: Remake of 3
22: Remake of 4
24: Remake of 5
26: Remake of 6
27: Remake of 7
28: Remake of 8
32: Remake of 9
33: Remake of 11
35: Remake of 12
36: Remake of 15
38: Remake of 14

So if you wanted to play all of the games or just play some of the newer or "enhanced" versions of the hacks, you can use this as a guide if you so choose! Also 10 and 20 are compilation hacks of his previous hacks. So 10 would be hacks 1-9, and 20 would be hacks 11-19.
Interesting information Sim, thanks for sharing!
I already knew that 16 was a remake of the (unreleased) 2, but didn't know more of them were actually remakes too. I didn't know about 10 and 20 neither.

Does anyone know how to get the secret exit from Special World 2 from Super Sig World 16? There is a red Yoshi and a red shell and Yoshi can't fly over the lava pit.

I think at this point SIG has become one of the most confusing hackers. Everything they do just brings up 20 questions.

Yikes this thread is a ghost town.

I was exploring the Mario Fantasy tech demos last night for fun and I found some interesting stuff.

Not only do these graphics looks sick but if you'll notice, Romi used not only Layer 3 in this, but Layer 4 as well. Layer 3 didn't become a commonly used thing until earlier this decade and hardly anyone uses Layer 4, so to see both of them in use in a hack from 2008 is pretty cool.

Apparently there was supposed to be a Culex battle in Mario Fantasy. There's a full fledged cutscene in the hack but there's no real boss when the cutscene is over.

Just thought this was neat.

Pretty neat animation for an SMW hack. Sad this never got fleshed out into anything either.

Overall this hack looked to have been far ahead of it's time but sadly it never progressed past the alpha stage.

I'm not sure how a lot of the layer 4 chicanery works, but couldn't the yellow platforms in the background just be on layer 2, but with parallax scrolling effects? On Effect Tool you can get that kind of effect going on a per-line basis.

Aside from that, that little demo was amazing to look at back in the day. Do you know where one could download it today?

It isn't the yellow ropes but rather how there are three background layers. Not only are the background pretty colour reduced (as each layer can carry only four different colours) but also that the brown background moves at a slightly different rate than the gears.

--------------------
Okay, my layout looks ugly.
the brown bg is on layer 3, everything else in the bg is on layer 2.

cool gears from toy story (snes) lvl10 [downloadable video]

looks like it interleaves a few bg images with simple patterns using some snes magic

You can download all the demos on Zandro's SMW hack archive. I think it's down right now though.

Yeah his site has been down for at least a week now i believe.
Zandro's been having problems recently with some troll from around here mass-leeching his site (eating up his bandwidth) and hacking through his anti-leech protections. He temporarily shut down the site in hopes of weeding out the moron, but it might be a while before it comes back.

I'm sure he'll bring it back soon enough but it might be gone for a bit longer.

Yes, this new generation of SMW hacking is really missing them, not only carol and Romi, basically all japanese scene (I've got told from a trustable source that japanese SMW hackers aren't a thing anymore, at least in 5ch). It's sad but it's the cycle of everything.
