...I suck at playing/testing Kaizo hacks. I know that I could just get someone to beta test the entire hack, but would they want to play through every little edit I make? I doubt it. I have a few good ideas, but I don't think that I can get them done without being able to test it myself. So, is there any advice that you guys can give me?

(Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I figured that it would fit better in here than in the Hacking Help section.)
Well, that's a problem. In Kaizo hacks every little thing needs to be fully tested. So that means that any minor update would have to be played through, preferably more than just once (I used to play about 10 times through every change).

Either you have to find yourself a playtester who's got enough time to go through everything for you. Everything needs to be tested, I was silly enough not to test half a screen in my first release with the argument of 'that's SO straight-forward that it won't create problems' and it resulted in serious breaks and issues.

My advice would be to play some Kaizo hacks until you are skilled enough to test for yourself, it really is needed to test all miniscule changes. Making and testing Kaizo is not an easy thing to do.

Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Oooh look at my userbar!

Sadistic Designer - testing Pit without tools.
Also don't forget there are cheats to get you to places quicker (invincibility, swimming)
And placing entrances where you want to test so it makes te job alot more easier.

Also it isnt too hard to find people to test a kaizo hack (as long as it isnt pit) on this forum, just pm a few members and se if anyone is up for it? (was that a bad thing to say or not?)

quite a predicament.

often, you'd have to beta-test all the small changes yourself, so you may want to consider playing some kaizo hacks so as to get better at your own.

if there is someone willing, you could send them edits fairly often, or, using irc, send them the edits as you make them in a sort of collaboration session, so you can have feedback while you're making it.

if you're really really not-so-great at playing kaizo hacks, you may want to reconsider making them. it's not not-an-option.
we are all 😎 but some are more 😎 than others
you would have to play it. but to make it easier, you could move the midway point around the level, so then you don't have to play the whole thing each time.
I always put a door at the start and move the destination around to where I need to test. You can use savestates & slowdown a lot too. You'll play better anyway because you made that hack and know what to expect (for puzzles and stuff), so it would be as difficult as playing a Kaizo hack blind.

I often test by moving around secondary entrances, entrances, taking away parts of walls and ceilings, and sometimes putting a Lakitu cloud (I've not figured out the cheat function yet).

How am I so creative? I think taking walks might have something to do with it.
Every single level I will ever make in SMM2 will be easier than Ultra Necrozma.
