Tip: Take advantage of easy to install Patches in your hack. For example, the Classic Piranha Plant fix should be considered if you are planning to insert that sprite in your hack.
I decided to set this up to encourage the creation of good and enjoyable games.
Here, you can brainstorm and put forth ideas for various types of forum games. This is also the place to ask if a game would be 'good' or 'spammy'. This is also the forum where you seek approval for your games. Post your idea and WAIT FOR A STAFF MEMBER TO GIVE YOU HIS/HER APPROVAL!
Have fun, and remember: if you don't know, ask. The other moderators and I are here to help.
I thought up a possible game earlier today... I forgot what it was totally about, but for the most part, OP says a set of 10 to 15 words, and the next replyer has to say what comes to mind upon reading the word for each word. I'm on the line whether this would be good or spammy. Also I seriously had no idea forum games would be up again when this came to mind. Nor did I ever expect it to come back. ever.
You get a chain of words, starting out with the first and last one, like so:
High
-
-
-
-
Video
The object is to correctly guess the correct chain of words. The players can choose to reveal one letter at a time above or below the currently revealed words.
So the player would say "I'd like a letter below 'High'".
And then it'd get filled in:
High
S
-
-
-
Video
After a letter is revealed, that player or any other player can guess what the word is.
"Is it 'School'?"
High
School
-
-
-
Video
Yes! After a word is guessed correctly or incorrectly, then a player can ask for one more letter in another word, or the same word if it was guessed incorrectly. So it goes back and forth: player must request a letter, player must take a guess. You cannot request more than one letter at a time or make more than one guess, it alternates. Any player can jump in at any time, however, only the first letter request or first answer received that turn will be acknowledged, even if someone else guessed the correct answer.
You keep going until you complete the chain:
High
School
Night
Club
Music
Video
Each correct guess is worth 1 point. The player who guesses the most correct answers in each chain gets a bonus 2 points, and then a new chain is loaded?
would hurt/heal games be good ? you know, where there is a list of whatever stuff you want ( characters, games, ect... ) and they all have a certain number of HP, and every user can choose to hurt or heal one or more items but only has a set number of points to use. the winning item is decided by process of elimination, being the last thing standing. i've seen it in other forums with pretty good success, so i could probably work here, too.
edit : i see there has been one made, and it wasn't closed...
Every hurt/heal game I have seen has been stupid, pointless, and postcount++ worthy with no thought put in. I'd say unless you can alter it to make it thought-provoking, pass on it.

I remember my SMWC Lotto game. That closed because:

Make your topic once, and use the edit function instead of a new reply if you want to add something to a post you just made.
You're double posting all the time, which makes this thread a horrible postcount thread.
Also, most of the winners are nonposters or close, so you're sending useless PMs for no obvious reason. This means that this thread makes less sense than this image, so I'm going to remove it.
If I made sure the winner was a regular member. Because if the random numbers I pick are non posters. I could pick again.
And If I didn't double post and updated the numbers via first post.
Would it be okay to start again?
TOS: IIRC, there was never any thought involved, just "The winner is #1337" "Yay" "The winner is #666... wait he's inactive. The winner is #42" "Yay". That also contributed to the closing. If you can find some way to make some more brainwork involved, it'd probably be okay... but I can't see any way to get any brainwork into a lottery.
pkhaxor: That thread was so old when I got promoted in that forum that I never checked if it seemed okay or not. That's why it's still open.

What about the classic "You Know You're Addicted to X when..." The basic idea would be that the first person posts some sort of activity, then the second person lists various (frequently ridiculous and over-the-top) things that would indicate addiction to that activity. They then post an activity of their own, and the cycle continues. For example.
Post 1: You know you're addicted to Super Mario World when...
Post 2:
You think dinosaurs had lizard-like tongues and could spit fire.
You eat the local wildflowers in an attempt to be able to blast fire from your hands.
You can't take woodworking classes since the saws always make the wood look "cut-off."
You walk into work, see the same old boss you've seen every other time, and announce "Boring..."

Any good?
Sure. Just suggesting that the second poster should have like 3 or more reasons to rule any spammyness.

^ (Answers if the guess from above poster is true or not)

And so on, so forth. Does this seem like it would be too spammy?
Go ahead, but I'll be keeping my eye on it (if you dig up the old ^<V thread you'll see some of what we don't want).
I was thinking of making a game where the users work together to navigate a dungeon, using their brains to navigate through rooms collecting items and using those items to access new items which can be used to get deeper into the dungeon. There will be no instances of dieing, because that'd be stupid, and I have no idea what would happen after that. I will post a picture of a room and users will post an action that they want to perform. If two people want to pick different things up, both objects will be picked up. However, if two or more people wish to go to a different location, there will be a vote as to where to go.
