War was an old thread. A good game in my opinion which allowed for many an army to battle on a freeform world. It was good, but as people became self-overpowered, it sank into the oblivion of spam. As a result, many learned to hate it. This resulted in the idea being objected when I presented it on IRC. But I hope to return it to glory!

Well, it appears nothing is gone forever. Anyone remember the old thread? Well, I'm bringing it back. (Well, I didn't create the original, Luigi San did. Credit to him.) Anyways, here's how it works, you pick a territory (Or territories, I guess), and once enough territories are chosen, you can start attacking/making peace with other user's territories. Look at the old War threads (they're in the Forum Games) for good examples of what/what not to do.

BASIC RULES
-No God Mode (instant win and all that)
-No taking all the land (be reasonable)
-No Instantly Blowing up the World and killing everybody
-No interplanetary travel
-No nukes, ICBMs (regular missiles ok) or other uberkill weapons
-No instant 'new technology that will make everything else obsolete' You can still make it, just make it take time.

STARTING
Give a description about the advantages/disadvantages of your location, such as population, environment, level of technology, military strength, economy, government, etc.

ATTACKS
After you attack, wait for the other player to defend or retaliate. If they do not retaliate in 48 hours you win uncontested.

ALLIANCES
You can make alliances with other players. If you do, you must announce that you are allied in this thread in some way.

PROGRESS BARS
When you are doing a big project, you must have a progress bar. You can update these progress bars each post, by a certain amount of percent depending on different variables, such as cost, time, resources, etc. Progress bars can also go backwards, usually because of some internal glitch or problem, but it doesn't happen often.

ADDED RULES
-ONLY PNGS! It's okay if you have a .jpg in the link, or something, but if quality loss is noticeable, your new version of the map is regarded null and void.
-No more 'infinite power'. You can't even have almost infinite. All power is limited, and although some things may be able to hold a lot of power, it can't be too much.
-You can't discover new materials in your area every 5 seconds. In fact, let's make it so that each nation can only discover 2 new elements/minerals/other materials. If these new things are deemed to unfair by at least 3 other people, you must somehow make it a bio-hazard or something so that it can no longer be used in the game. Please don't take advantage of this rule to get rid of something you don't like, though. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not fair.

Failure to follow those rules will void your action.

If you have any suggestions for rules, feel free to post them, and I'll put them up here if they are good enough.

Okay, now for my area.

Grishtopia:
Population: Roughly 2,000,000
Captial: Durfacy
Economy: Based around mining
Environment: Cold, mountainous region. The area below Port Clavert is more temperate, and is where most of the food is grown.
Major Exports: Metals, precious gems, rock
Technology: Not very technological, most powerful technology is in mining equipment.
Military: Powerful navy, average land forces, virtually no air force.
------------------
Researches:
Better Mining Equipment: 1%
As with most of the old War threads in 2008, I guess I should join now again.

Another rule: ONLY PNGS! It's okay if you have a .jpg in the link, or something, but if quality loss is noticeable, your new version of the map is regarded null and void.

Having said that, here's my claim:

Fuzzlandia
Population: Est. 38.750.000 people
Capital: Wiredam
Environment: Because of the wide-stretched land, especially from north to south, but also from continental to oceanic, the climate varies greatly depending on where you are. The more to the north, the hotter it gets, although the south doesn't often experience freezing temperatures. There is a grand desert between Marn and Wiredam, and because few roads cross through it, logistic problems can occur.

Tricht is the biggest city in the 'Cold Zone' - if the wind is coming from the southwest, freezing temperatures and even snow can be expected. Because this doesn't happen often, preparations are often too late, which can also give logistical troubles.

It is thought that there is a grand oil field somewhere in the desert, but thusfar nothing has been found yet.
Major Exports: Sand, salt, copper, glass fibre.
Technology: Glass fibre is used in favour of regular electricity cables.
Military: Land forces are very well trained and operate best in desert or other wasteland. These are mostly used for defense, as the big desert between Marn and Wiredam is of tremendously strategic importance to the country. The same goes for air forces. Although Fuzzlandia has a long coastline, the navy is not known for excellent capabilities.

Why not.

Taurence

Capital:Rolo
Population: Aprox. 750.000 people
Enviorment:
As a volcanic, harsh, and mountainous environment, few can be found living in the fiery wasteland of Taurence. The area is rich in oils and mineral deposits however, but mining them can be a difficult task because of the steep cliffs and magma which cause a number of fatalities and make these tasks undesirable at best. Active volcanoes litter the area, so volcanic eruptions are expected and common, although they lack ferocity and power so eruptions are not exactly bothersome. Because of the rough mountainous terrain, the country's coast is nearly 30 feet above sea level in several parts, which makes importing and exporting goods difficult so Taurence is mostly independent and secluded.

The discovery of a strong material with a very high melting point called tarinium allows the population to build up and create large cities made of this rust colored metal. The city of Rolo, for example, is full of tarinium processing plants and the industrious city is made entirely of tarinium, including the ground, housing, factories, and the 50 foot walls that protect the city from the occasional lava flow and hot, piercing winds.

Significant Exports: Oils and minerals, and (rarely) tarinium.
Technology: Ballistics, the study of tarinium
Military: Military mostly because of the ballistic studies.

EDIT: Noticed there was a lot of mountainous and icy environments, so to vary things up I changed mine.
Interesting...

Bale:
Population: Around 1,500,000, mainly farmers
Captial: Moonswift
Economy: Based on fishing and agricultural finds; traditional economy
Environment: Lush, green rain forests with many tropical fruits such as cocoa and bananas. Moonswift is located on the top of a large mountain that gets snow daily. Port Zave is protected by very rocky seas and vast coral reefs that make it hard to be attacked and raided easily.
Technology: No technology unless necessary. (Hospital equipment, alarms, etc.)
Military: Consists mainly of spies and assassins with many types of spears and glaives. Very well-trained.
Exports: Wood, lumber, exotic fish, glaives and other weapons, and lastly tropical fruits.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Building & Researching

Large stone wall to protect Moonswift even more. - 1%

Frio
Peaceful but independant nation. Relies on others for help as a last resort. Only attacks when attacked.

Capitol: Hielo
Population: About 750,000
Environment:
The Area around Hielo is extremely cold, going to around 18 degrees Celsius during summer and -25 degrees in Winter. In the area around Enero, though, the temperature is less harsh going around 25 degrees in summer and around -5 degrees in Winter. Terrain is Mountanous, chains of mountains cover the inner regions of the whole island, with Enero being a city in a valley surrounded by mountains and very deep forests. Depite these facts, it never snows for whatever reason.

Aside from the weather conditions, several rare species of fish appear in the Areas between Hielo and Enero, so around 45% of the population is fishermen. To survive the climate, Farmers can be found in Enero herding sheep and goats, using their fur to make clothing suitable for living. The only vegetables and fruit that grow are Apples, Grapes, Tomatoes, Lettuce, and Carrots. The sea between Enero and Hielo are very calm, so to transport goods between the two cities, small boats are used.

Major Exports: Milk, Fur Goods, Fish, Apples, Grapes, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Carrots, Salt, Wood, Precious Rocks and Minerals.

Technology: Great Nautical and Fishing Technology, Adequete Mining, Medical.

Military: Land forces surrounding inland borders, not highly skilled, use Spears and Arrows. Navy is higly trained, but not very advanced, contain large and small ships, small ships used to stowaway on enemy ships and attack from the inside, soldiers use Spears and Swords, ships have catapults.

Emmien
------

Capital: Port Gau
Population: 620,000

Environment: All types of climate are featured, spanning from the subtundra area near Port Gau to the rainforests nearby Tyrymnica. Land is low-lying and, outside of the rain forest, quite dry. The two halves of the country are connected by ship, and often exchange local goods due to the varying climate. 45% of the population farms, 25% fish, 13% are traders, 8% are artists and potters, 5% are involved with the production and sale of written materials, 2% participate in government for a living, and the remaining 2% remain as a standing army. Medical, political, and military training is part of education.

Major exports: wheat, barley, millet, pots, olives and olive oil

Technology: There is an emphasis on improving the already good farming and shipping technologies. Medical technology comes next as new illnesses cannot be easily treated.

Government: constitutional monarchy with a small elected legislative body. (note: the legislators do not have to approve executive decisions)

Military: Instead of trading iron, the people use it to make weapons not as a profession but for personal protection. Each household has at least one scimitar or spear for each member of the family, the making of which is passed down through generations. Since their territory is very spread out, the people have reason to be fearful of invaders.

------

Research: The king commands 3,000 prisoners to begin fortifying the north of Tyrymnica. (1%)
Simultaneously, farmers meet outside Pelorcova to develop better harvesting equipment. (2%)

Miracleus
----
A peaceful nation, only fighting whenever it is really needed.
Miracleus will often focus on allying with nearby nations, as if
forming a kind of barrier.

Population: 4,000,000 (Mainland) 500,000 (Tinzat area) 10,000 (New Tinzat)
Enviroment: Lush rainforest (mainland) cold and mountainous (Tinzat) Lush Rainforest near Desert (new tinzat)
Exports: Medical Supplies
Technology: Mostly focused and highly advanced in medical technology.
Government: Utopianism.

Currently
-Discovering cure for cancer (3%)
-Discovering ways to grow plants faster (7%)
Ugh, Linkspetyoshi somehow managed to shrink the map, and therefore the last four five posts are off substantially. Please check the original post next time please?

Loquewell
------
Capital: Airs
Population: 5,150,000

Description: The climate here is fairly temperate; expect all four seasons to be out in force sometime during the year. Autumn is particularly vivid, thanks to the soil and rain patterns caused by the rolling hills that make up the majority of the nation.
A significant portion of the nation is covered by farmland; production is plentiful, but fairly inefficient; over half the population is involved in some way with the production of food. Wheat, barley and other grains are the primary crop, with fruit groves being interspersed throughout the region.
The cities are venerable, with buildings dating back centuries comprising central Airs. The cities are fairly chaotically organized, thanks to a total lack of planning during most of their histories.
A rudimentary rail and highway system connects the three mapped cities and countless small towns to each other. Plans are underfoot for a more comprehensive system.
The current army is fairly small, but formidable. Their defensive capabilities are legend throughout the continent, and will hold their position without fail. Just don't ask them to lead an assault just yet.
Iron, copper, and coal mines give Loquewell a significant advantage in terms of being able to jump-start their wartime capabilities. Now they just need to do so.
The government of Loquewell is technically, it a monarchial democracy. However, the monarch is less of a ceremonial figure than most modern monarchies are: able to assume all-but-complete dictatorial control given an adequate reason, they assume a degree of potential power that is simply staggering. Pheren VII is in his prime, so don't expect an usurpation anytime soon.

Pheren VII meets with his cabinet, discussing if his nation is ready to go to war. Transcript will be revealed in due time.

Tsujda (it's Adjust [i was staring at the buttons on the monitor], backwards, if i actually named it something real...my bad):
Population: Roughly 12,000
Captial: Tsujda
Economy: Based on marine/weather (Polar conditions)
Environment: Frozen tundra, isolated from much of the other territories
Major Exports: Marine equipment/technology and marine/polar animals (Whaling, fur's, you get the idea)

---------------------------------------------------
Radar/Sonar technology 8%

Sub-marine technology 4%

Domestication of Marine/polar wildlife for

---------------------------------------------------

It might be a good idea to have people stop for awhile so we can get all of these country's correctly on one map

Galare

Capital: Reggiesville

Population: About 4,523,000

Environment: Galare is a mostly mountanous region, with many cities and towns scattered around. Since the most of the towns are built on uneven surfaces, there are many steep roads and if the road is steep enough, there are even handles in the sidewalk arranged like a ladder to enable people to climb up or down.

Major exports: Gold and cola

Technology: Very advanced technology, including such items as hover cars. Combat androids are also currently in construction.

Government: Very well-trained in hand-to-hand fights and air combat.

Australia

Capital: Melbourne (aka. New Sydney)
PoP: 14 million
Environment: Sandy in the center, very arid. On the outer areas (Specifically coastal) It is tropical and humid, with much greenery.

Major Export: Coal, Sand, Brown Coal and Soylent Green.

Tech: Australia is of basic intelligence, but larger numbers, there are a few (1 in 1000) who are intellectually capable of modern science, medicine etc. We are advanced, due to our economy and have a simple computer controlled life.

Gov: Robots. Our current Optimus Prime-Minister is Tron Howard v3.1.2.5

PAKLISEL

major export : pumice ( volcanic rock ), rubies
tech : pretty advanced, most of it is military or used for researching the volcano.
military : lots of heat-resistent vehicules capable of going in lava and water.

researching the secrets of the volcano : 1%
Using the big map. I could have stuck the rest of the places in this one, but my computer broke...

Cannis
------
Capital: Altas Citadel
Population: 3,785,000

Climate: Cannis has Rocky Mesas to the southwest and an arid desert to the northeast. These two areas are separated by a mountain range called the Silver Range, named as such for its bountiful deposits of silver ore. The city silver is located at the point where the mountains reach the sea. Small mining towns litter the sides of the mountain, providing other ores including coal, iron, bronze, gold and aluminium. Occasional deposits of tarinium can be found here. A great river runs down from a spring in Silver, passes alongside the giant mesa that Altas is built on and finally collects in Lake Cal, where the city of Cal is built around. Farmland is limited in Cannis, the only suitable plots being in the savannah around the river and Lake Cal. Small clumps of savannah can also be found around the mesas, but is much less common. The desert to the northwest is near uninhabitable, and holds no useful resources. However rumours have spread of oil deposits there from Fuzzlandia.

Altas is very industrialised, and most products are manufactured here. It is said that some factories go deep into the ground to produce cars, boats and other goods, or to burn coal to supply power to all the cities. Unlike Silver and Cal, most work is just maintenance and the citizens here are more interested with technological advancement compared to manual labour.

Silver is the centre of trade, and sends metals and other goods down the river and off to islands bordering the coast. Mining has been semi mechanised, and the city is a place of peace and culture.

Cal is a large farming town, where most of the food is produced. Together with Silver, this city provides most raw materials needed.
Economy: Cities and Towns supply each over by trading. Most goods are transported by the river or around the coast. Most farm work here is done by hand, but the limited suitable land means it is used very efficiently. Despite this the population remains small and not enough food is produced to feed all of the citizens, resulting in the population bobbing up and down.

Major Exports: Silver, Coal, Iron, Aluminium, manufactured Nautical and Land transport and other machines.

Tech: Semi Mechanised Mining, Efficient farming in Savannah, Computer controlled Manufacture, Mass Manufacturing factories, Coal Power Stations.

Military: Medium force of Cruisers and Battleships, Mechanised missile boats patrol the coast. Small force of small all terrain tanks defend inland. Some anti air guns, but almost no air force.

Government: Constitutional monarchy, the Government owns most public services such as Ferries and Post. The current leader is Cyrus Mann.

I'll fix the maps and upload a new one in this post. Please do not create new countries until this message is removed and a new map has taken its place.

How could I have shrunken the map? I'm pretty sure Paint.NET doesn't edit the canvas size without telling me... Hmm...I should look into this, I'm sorry for the trouble...

Maybe Photobucket shrunk it?
To stop it from doing that,
  1. Log in to your photobucket account
  2. Click on More Options below the Upload button
  3. Set resize options to 1mb
  4. Click Save

Done. I suggest keeping it at 1mb when you're done uploading the maps, you might want to upload other large images too.
No, I have no idea why that function exists at all.
<blm> zsnes users are the flatearthers of emulation
Ah, I see. Well, thank you for the advice Alcaro, I'll go do that right now.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, I should I have noticed...#w{=(}
Huzzah!

Loquewell and Emmien overlapped a slight bit, so I removed that bit from Emmien. I don't think it'd be of any importance, though.

Also, some more in-depth info on cities of Fuzzlandia:

- The cities displayed on the map are obviously not the only ones. There are many more small or average sized villages/towns/cities.

- Wiredam. The capital of the city, around which a metropolis can be found. It also maintains the second-most used harbour of Fuzzlandia, being beaten only by Blago. This is because the distance to other continents/countries is very small, compared to other coastal areas (including Blago), and said continents are plentiful - however, the seas around this region can be rough, which is why some prefer to search for other harbours.
Wiredam is most industrialized of all main cities, also containing many factories (especially in the west of the city). This is the city where the renowned glass fibres are produced.
The city has to deal with considerable rainfall in summer. In spring and autumn, it occurs that sand from the Cannesean desert.
Salt is also found here.

- Blago. The second city of the country. Although often being mocked by the "people up north" (mostly Wiredam), they are of incredible importance to the export and import of Fuzzlandia. Having the most frequented harbour of the country (thanks to calm waters and a grand, deep harbour). Fishing is rather important here.
Food processing happens here - it's rarely used for export though.

- Marn. Although the third city in population, it is not very prosperous. Main resources coming from this place are sand and salt. Sand from the nearby desert in the northwest, and salt from a large saltlake up north.

- Tricht. Not very populated, but it's quite prosperous and rich in resources. Surrounded by large woods, timber is one of the resources. Agriculture is also found nearby, albeit not inside Tricht. Nearby there are copper mines.

Current project:
- Searching for oil in the Great Cannesean Desert. Start working from Marn, to the border with Cannis, and finally to Wiredam. Progress: 4%.

phenolatukas, I see you also have interests in the desert's resources. Perhaps we could form an alliance here so that whatever we find there, we can trade later? (And perhaps other things as well.)
