While I have no demo, I have this to share:

The plot of Vanilla XL is as follows:

It is the Rennaisance of the Dinosaur Continent. It has been 724 years since the events of SMW, when Mario had first discovered the Four Yoshi Tribes. Since then, they had discovered that Dinosaur Island is but an isle on the Soda Sea, which flows into the Endless Ocean. This sea is surrounded by the Dinosaur Continent, previously occupied by Koopas and other miscellaneous Sprites (the official name of sentientfolk on the Dinosaur Continent). The Yoshis have since spilled into the North, forcing the Koopas West onto the land of the Monty Moles and all the way to the Starry Sea. They war to this day. Meanwhile, Bowser fled to Boo territory in the far East, creating a base in the then-unnamed volcano (afterwards named Bowser Volcano). The desert between the twin mountain ranges dividing the East and the West has always traditionally been occupied by the rather primitive Thwomp Dynasty. Meanwhile, the Mushroom Gang- Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and Princess Peach- have not died. No one knows what fuels their immortality; many theories have been made, with a certain sect of Yoshis worshipping them as gods. Most of the other Sprites are rather disdainful of them, as generally Mario and Luigi (and occasionally Wario) have disgraced their collective races in a variety of unique ways.

ROM 1

Now, things are worse than ever.

The kingdom is falling apart. The original Dinosaur Island has fallen into ruin, overrun with the primitive Reznors and their spawn. To top it all off, Peach has disappeared into a dimensional rift. Mario followed her a split second later, winding up with a peculiar Yoshi named Noshi. He has made his home at the base of Dinosaur Island in Soda Lake. The reclusive scientist has been working on a means of space travel for the past 36 years, and has come quite close to accomplishing it. Indeed, that is also the location he traced the quite unstable portal to. However, it turns out that the only power source power source capable of powering his spaceship, the Star Skimmer, is being held in the Boo Tower in the far Southwest. Using Noshi's high-tension cannons (after running through a few tutorial levels), Mario blasts off into either the Yoshi Grasslands or the Soda Sea (depending on the choice he makes). Once in the Yoshi Grasslands, a Mario treks through the Dinosaur Continent, coming to redemption through a series of misadventures involving the blatant racism and collective discrimination that plagues the Dinosaur Continent. There is an optional sidequest involving returning the Koopa Star from the cursed wreck in the Starry Sea to Shell City that sends you back to the beginning, but is great fun and leads to an elaborate 12-hour level.

ROM 2

Mario returns from his epic quest through the Fungus Forest and Mushroomy Heights only to find that Noshi has been kidnapped by the aging and ailing Bowser, and is being held hostage in Bowser Volcano. Mario journeys to the far East, braving the twin mountain ranges of Chocolate and Steel (in between laying the Thwomp Desert, where he his captured himself and nearly sacrificed to Emperor Thwomppe). Here, he must make a dangerous decision: will he follow the River Rex or not? Declining the offer sends him across Podoboo Plains onto the Winding Road to the volcano, while following it deposits him in the Boo Graveyard, where he faces the vengeance of The King Boo the High (King Boo the Low being the end boss of ROM 1, under the name of King Boo). After both roads he finds himself at the volcano, and once a victory is secured they find themselves blown back to Noshi's island, where they can finally commence the launch of the Star Skimmer.

ROM 3

Their first stop is made at Bowser Belt, where they discover that Bowser has been keeping a small army of extraterrestrial Koopas and other Sprites as slaves, mining him more of his precious Selenite. After blowing the mining rig, Mario proceeds to Magmand, the fiery planet where the signal is coming from. However, the gigantic gravitational pull of Icee draws them in, whereupon the power source is lost. They trek to civilization, and it turns out that Icee's moon has quite a large quantity of fuel in its core. The little that the villagers have is gathered together and used to power the Skimmer's flight to their moon. Once they had acquired the power source and blazed a trail to the core, Mario and Noshi finally make it to Magmand, where the final showdown will take placeā€¦

Also, there will be a leveling system based on points. The upgrades will be (in order):

1. Gradual health depreciation (if Mario gets hurt with a powerup, he will revert to Super Mario rather than normal form)
2. Side Jump
3. Ground Pound
4. Backflip
5. Wall Jump
6. Triple Jump
7. Invincibility Dash (when Mario is running, he is invincible and can run off ledges)
8. ???

Well, that's it. I hope you enjoyed reading the plot!

Why don't you post screenshots? I mean, the plot is decent, but I can see that link in your sig. Don't tease us!

My computer crashed and I will probably die tomorrow. That's why.

... That is the most amazingly elaborate plotline for an SMW hack ever.

Good fucking bye.
That's a very awesome plot, but I feel it's way too ambitious.

W/e, the levels sound awesome.

Heh, you haven't seen half of it. The endgame is what makes it special, and only two people in the world besides me know anything about it (David and flareblade26).

Also, if you think that's elaborate, check out Zeldara109's Alyssa's Unlikely Trap. It's much more sophisticated.

BTW: I don't think it's very ambitious at all; I'm just worried about whether that much plot will fit into a SNES ROM.
What the hell is Pop Tart Cat?
Well, you do have three ROMs to work with, not just one...

Also, wait, didn't Zeldara only show off the title screen of AUT? :/

Good fucking bye.
She told me in PM, and I'm carrying that to my grave. No way in hell I'm telling you guys.

I'll admit, I haven't been following this like everyone else, so let me ask something. By, "ROM 1, ROM 2, and ROM 3" do you mean this is one GIANT hack (or XL as you say) that is so damn huge it stretches across 3 separate roms, and the player has to switch roms to continue the story? Sort of like a music album or DVD with more than one disc because the content is so long? That sounds pretty cool. I'd love to see some more stuff though, like screens or something.

--------------------
Can't wait untill this game's release. When do you think that would be? (If you're not dead...)
Wow, that's great, the plot is extremely well written and elaborate, and I can tell it would be awesome to play. It's awful that your computer has crashed and the, uh, cancer... I wish you best of luck in everything, and I seriously hope you get better.

There's a link in my sig; it leads to a thread with both really new and really old screenshots. And it will have around 350 levels.

Christmas. The first demo, I mean. The rest? I dunno, a year or two.

@Lynnes Thanks! I'll try to make it through; only six days until donations ship.

YAY FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!
And only one day until you're supposed to die. :< [/pessimesm]

... This would be the greatest Christmas present ever, if it weren't for the fact that I won't be able to play it until around New Year's.

Aww, this makes me so happy, guys. I didn't realize my works were so liked around here. If you think this is so great, just wait until you see a screenshot of my secret project Alato next C3. You have never seen anything like it.

And keep in mind that only the final version will have plot and custom bosses. It's going to have vanilla bosses all the way up until then, and the plot has a crucial twist which I only want the player to be rewarded after they have worked their way through all 300+ levels.
What the hell is Pop Tart Cat?
Cool story bro. Seriously. It's a cool story.

It actually is, though. Plot is something that I actually like to see from time to time in hacks, and it looks like you have yours figured out well.
Hope the hack is as good as the story, heh.
