NEW HACK!


As of this post the first level has been completed. Pictures are as follows:











My goals for this hack:
- Each level will be at least 10 (hexadecimal) screens long.
- Each level will contain something unique that separates it from every other level.
- At least every other level will contain a bonus level of some kind. (The last world may be a possible exception to this)
- Each level will contain at least one kind of switch block (Green switch palace (?) is an exception).
- This hack will contain at least 30-40 levels (at least 4 worlds worth)
- Each sprite in SMW (normal and extended) will be used at least once in the hack.

Some stuff I need: (I'll edit this as needed)
- (tool) Lunar Magic 1.82 (I'm slow :<)
- (patch) Noobish Noobsicle's Yoshi Flutterjump patch (or whatever it's called)
- (patch) That patch that makes red switch blocks give you flowers and blue switch blocks give you stars.
- (block) Small vertical and horizontal pipes that small Mario can enter. <----- REQUEST!
- (block) A block that acts like 16B (yellow switch block) (Don't ask)

Some things I will need help with:
- I am planning on making forest, mushroom, ghost house, and castle tilesets based on vanilla graphics, much like the grassland, underground, and switch palace tilesets I've already made. If you have suggestion about what I should use for these tilesets, please tell me.
- I am considering using custom music. However, I don't play many commercial video games and don't use custom music in my hacks (except for my choco contest entry), so I don't really know many good songs. Again, suggestions would be awesome. However, I would like to avoid songs that are overused. Original songs would be <3
- I'm not planning on using bosses or fancy asm, but I am open to suggestions on this too if you can help. :>
For custom music suggestions, you should ask around in this thread.

Anyways, I quite loved Super Mario Redux and Mario's Walk Home, and this one looks pretty cool as well! Will you be using more graphics then just the ones you made for MWH?

I should have said something, but you dont have to have patch to do that. It can be done without the patch you know....

I should have said something, but you dont have to have patch to do that. It can be done without the patch you know....

But the patch gives them the correct bounce-block palettes.

Hey, it's an update.

I decided I'm going to use different kinds of coins.



Yellow - one coin
Green - two coins
Blue - three coins
Red - five coins

Also, I finally moved the hack to LM 1.82, so that's good.

Somehow, the walljump is incompatible with the custom blocks. I need to find out how to find free RAM.

Also, I'm going to have to patch Counter Break Y, as Yoshi flutterjump + walljump = severe level breakage.
Wow, so far your hack looks pretty good :D. I love those tilesets you have in there. When you've done enough to do a demo, could you send me one? Because I look forward to seeing what else is in this hack.
I was *planning* on having a demo when I finish half of the levels. However, I have no idea how many worlds the hack is going to have (I only have the first submap done), so I can't quite give a time estimate.

Also, any demos would be released to the public, so I don't quite get your question. Would you like to be a beta tester?

First Level
? Screenshot 2: How do you get that "?" mark block on the ground there?
+ Screenshot 3: The cement blocks have pipes in them? Oh, I see. That's a cool idea.
- Screenshot 6: All those vines seem to clutter the screen. Maybe a moving platform or something can take the place of those.

Second Level

- 0:24 Why can the Chuck break the cement block? Add a different way to get the Yoshi Coin.
- 0:47, 1:04 The secret exit seems too easy to get. Make it a little harder.

Third Level

? Screenshot 4: How can you get that yoshi coin?


Fourth Level

- Screenshot 2: Those valuable coins are easy to get. Replace them with regular coins.
---- Screenshot 3: My biggest worry. The darker ground creates a little cutoff, the keyhole is floating, and, you can go inside the slanted pipe. Block it off.
- Screenshot 4: The rotating platforms need a cement block in the middle of them.


Overall

6/10

Your hack needs some work. You definitely need to fix the things in the 4th level, as that level alone subtracts 3 points from your original 10. Fix things = better grade. However, don't create new problems.

The Pipes are NOT cutoff. If you look closely at the cement blocks then you can see that there are Pipe graphics added to them.

I could probably replace those with unbreakable turn blocks.

Personally, I find the constant walljumping from wall to wall (which is needed to get back up) slightly difficult.

- I see no cutoff
- Keyholes always float
- Pipes have been fixed

If you look closely, I placed another circle thing where the cement block would go. The platforms rotate around it.

Not really an update, but I finished drawing out the overworld on some grid paper, and I counted 42 levels, and 4 worlds. I've already finished 4 levels, so yeah.
Those are pretty long worlds... (Unless you're doing what you did in Redux)

I made the overworld much more linear than SMR. Also, not all of the levels are technically in a "world".
