OW? it isn't big enough to fit the whole thing in...unless you use some places in submaps, you would have to have probably the exact same pallets for all of them.
He was sort of walking around the earth in the original and then you ride him when you select the level but how would you do that in the smw version?
Also: the roads being doors is ok but, it doesn't seem right but ok to use, Definatly change the SFX.
Well, in my head this is perhaps too faithful to the original. I was thinking more of a hack with the mechanics of SMW, a platformer really, with inspiration drawn from Mario is Missing, meaning OW [earth-like but SMW mechanics], backgrounds in each area, etc. IMO it could be a Mario/Luigi travels the world, Koopas invade Earth, or something; the plot doesn't need to be the same as Mario is Missing.
I think linear stages much like SMW, with some regional flavor to background/graphics (Jungles in the Amazon, a city in the background in paris) would be elegant. TBH what gave me this idea was that Mario in Japan hack. It made me want to travel the world. Mario is Missing was a kickstart for my following chain of thoughts, and should not imho restrict mechanics or creative freedom like in the original Mario is Missing.
