Overworld theme possibiliies

Looking at the other thread, I noticed how a lot pf people(myself included) don't really know what to do with each overworld theme. A lot of people think that with Grassland/industrial, you can't make anything other than a whole bunch of factories.

Frankly, that is boring, and also blinds the voter. Therefore I figured we could use a thread like this, where we can compile all the different level types that are posible on each level.
feel free to post anything that you see fits the theme. It will be collected and put in this post together with the other ideas.

Grass/Industrial/Flowery hybrid
Grasslands
light woods
flowery fields
A polluted river
mining outpost
exterior factory areas
the factory itself
obligatory sewer system
lightning/rain-soaked fields/muddy
between the happy and cheerful grasslands and the industrial environment

-Fire/ice world (mixed)
Vulcano
Frozen lake
An igloo
Vertical level that has a fire to ice transition
Level where you'll have to heat/cool objects and substances to proceed
crystal-type levels could work here.
hot/cold water sort of thing

-Forest/Swamp
Big tree/treehouse
forest cave
a swamp
a level with lots of vines
Mushroomy area, somewhere dank
temple ruins
muddy cave
treetops (town)
foggy area, zombie-like enemies?

-Fun fair (run-down and haunted?)
Rollercoaster Ride
Ferris Wheel
Water Park
on the ground carnival (big tops and whatnot)
general level outside of the fairground theme
Funhouse. Haunted and/or not haunted.
unconvincing fun house (koopas wearing cardboard cutout boo masks)
Some sort of springy pinball-like stage.
A level that's a little more minigame oriented than the others.
aerial lift-esque level
area based on space, with space-ish attractions and the like.
A circus of horrors

-Space World
Shootemup
Asteroid-based level
Space station
Zero-G gimmicks
simulated environments
Black Hole

-Asian/Oriental/Eastern-styled world
grassland
snowy mountain
(bamboo) forest
river
palace
wall (perhaps a fort-like structure?)
harbour
riverside city area
An autumnish area in a waterfall ambiance.
A level taking place in a Chinese bridge.

-Underwater ruins/coral reef
Aboveground ruins
surface coral area
underwater stuff
abandoned factory place/ship
Beach
submarine
pirate ship
cave area, with water spilling over platforms into shallow pools

-Sky world with airships + a blimp
shootemup
Inside blimp
Floating islands
Bubbly Clouds-esque level
A (double) rainbow
level taking place high above the skies, somewhat close to space

-Desert/Egyptian-styled
Oasis
Quicksand
Hot Grassland
Floating Ruins
Pyramid
A tomb/crypt

-Factory/Industrial type area
Blackout Basement-esque level
Smoggy level
A level with a bunch of gears/machinery
A sort of "pipeline", with steam shooting out of the pipes
An outside portion with a bunch of mechanical ruins
warehouse
junkyard

------

Please feel free to post any idea you believe fits ^_^
I can add a few ideas as well.

-A polluted river, for the grass/industry/flower hybrid.
-An igloo (fire/ice)
-Asteroid-based level (space world)
-Space station (space world)
-Zero-G gimmicks (space world)
-Floating islands (sky world)
-Bubbly Clouds-esque level (sky world)
-A rainbow? (sky world)
-A tomb/crypt (desert)
-A beach (assuming the desert joins up with the underwater/reef)
-Blackout Basement-esque level (factory)
-Smoggy level (factory)
-A level with a bunch of gears/machinery (factory)
-A sort of "pipeline", with steam shooting out of the pipes (factory)
-An outside portion with a bunch of mechanical ruins (factory)

Extras

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Advertising Space

- Vertical level that has a fire to ice transition. (Ascent, descent, your choice.)
- Level where you'll have to heat/cool objects and substances to proceed

Grassland Hybrid:
-sewer system
-lightning/rain-soaked fields, muddy
-reservoir/aqueduct/pipeline? I guess SNN covered this

Fire-Ice:
-a forest area that goes through four seasons? doesn't involve fire per se, but...
-to be honest, I think given the fire/ice mixture, some crystal-type levels could work here. Now that I think of it, DKC2 included crystal levels in the lava world.
-and speaking of DKC2 (and what MrDeePay said), we could have a hot/cold water sort of thing...

Forest-Swamp:
-Mushroomy area, somewhere dank
-temple ruins
-muddy cave
-treetops
-foggy area, zombie-like enemies?

Fun Fair:
-unconvincing fun house (koopas wearing cardboard cutout boo masks)

Space:
-simulated environments (space station)

Oriental:
-make the forest bamboo if we can, it has a different feel
-riverside city area (I'm thinking in the style of Muramasa: The Demon Blade or even Okami)

Coral:
-submarine
-pirate ship
-cave area, with water spilling over platforms into shallow pools

Industrial:
-warehouse

I still think it's simpler to see what levels people actually make and organise the overworlds in consequence to that :/
We're brainstorming ideas :/
Good fucking bye.
For the Sky world, I've always wanted to see a level that started on the ground and went straight up into the clouds, featuring sections in day, sunset, night, and back to day (where the goal would be). It would be a nice way to start off the sky-based levels.

We are not organising. We are simply giving ideas.
If a level-designer has his own creative/fun design in mind, no one will stop him/her(you know, unless it outright sucks <.<)

Now, if you guys don't mind, please refrain from posting anything other than ideas in this thread.
SNN EDIT: Don't quote the entire post. First warning.

Thanks Ladida for this EPIC and Awesome layout!

Hm...

Grassland/Industrial/Flowery:
  • Some kind of transition between the happy and cheerful grasslands and the industrial environment (hinty-hinty hint: grasslands-themed Layer 2 background + industrial-esque Layer 3 background placed in a more further away sort of range = neat-o transitional effect)

Forest/Swamp:
  • Some kind of treetop town?

Oriental/Eastern:
  • An autumnish area in a waterfall ambiance.
  • A level taking place in a Chinese bridge.

Fairgrounds:
  • Some kind of aerial lift-esque level, maybe?
  • An area based on space, with space-ish attractions and the like.
  • A circus of horrors (not the actual movie, though)?

Sky World:
  • A level taking place high above the skies, in a somewhat close range to the space? I dunno, those who were looking forward to a space world might enjoy this idea.

...and that's all for now.

-A rainbow? (sky world)

A double rainbow would be better. ALL THE WAY!!
And the music could be the Double Rainbow song.
I think a junkyard could be worked in to an industrial setting. Kinda like Flame Mammoth's stage from MMX, where junk falls down and takes a ride in to a pulverizing machine.

Violently changing temperatures for fire/ice would be cool. I'm thinking along the lines of how Tightpipes to Space had the frequently changing on/off switch, a frequently changing temperature could be kind of neat.
I think that if there was a Black Hole Submap, it would be really cool. Maybe Mario explores Space (maybe even our solar system, with the 8 planets) and at the end, he must save the world from the Black Hole which can be (somehow) controled by Bowser (or whoever the main villain will be) Anyone like it?
EDIT: I forgot, this should be a bonus submap if done(not bonus as in "FREE COINS!!!" but like the space in SMWCP1).

EDIT2: if this idea is done, I can get a 256-color image of the planets, (if we do that part of my idea)

Also,

Yeah, I like that; and when it's cold, the fire boss weakens, and the ice boss strengthens (and vica verca). Or Mario could occationally freeze during the cold portion and slow down due to heat during hot portion.

A Super Mario Adventure: The Adventure of Five
Status: Normal

Here is version 3 of my first music port

Currently: Making my SMWCPII level

An SMW Central Production II level:
131 - Factory Castle
So is the Bonus world going to be just where the hardest levels go randomly, or is it going to be somewhat of a postgame with a small amount of story, or what. What'd be neat is if it were the aftermath of everything the main villian did or something.
I've realized this was outdated.
Finally got around updating the first post :V

Also, since people apparently didn't get it the first time around

fix'd slightly to fit better
After seeing Smallhacker's fairground mock-up in the OW thread, I was reminded of something: bumper cars. I imagine with some clever usage of the Bully sprite, something like this could be reproduced. Perhaps you'd have to knock them off of platforms to get points, or something?
Fair-
*Dilapitated, overgrown, semi-operational (character doesn't know what
will work)
Desert-
*sandstorm/tornado that takes you to the other side of the map
Oriental-
*Multiple seasonal areas? (seasons changing with the level)
*Sakura trees
I've realized this was outdated.
Fair: A parade to get to the fair which involves staying on top of attractions in the parade to avoid being trampled by them and possibly going inside of said attractions
If we can ever figure it out a level that resembles Scrap Brain Zone would be awesome for the Industry theme. Especially if we can get gears to work.
