Watson is a computer designed by IBM over the course of 4 years, to compete on Jeopardy. His contestants will be Ken Jennings, who won 74 consecutive games, and Brad Rutter, who won the most money. This represents the triumphs of IBM in machine learning and AI, how Watson must understand and parse the Jeopardy clue, often filled with puns and jokes, with understanding of language that only humans have. It must then sift through millions of documents in order to determine the best fit answer, all within a few seconds. He's been given all the answers of thousands of previous jeopardy questions, and will receive correct answers once they have been revealed, and with this he can recognize patterns in how they occur in the data in order to determine future answers. Quite an exciting time, such as Deep Blue's win against the top chess player of the world. I highly recommend you watch the PBS documentary:

Or watch some videos on IBM's youtube page:

My two least favorite people, ever.

Anyway, this seems interesting. Man VS Machine, who is going to win this battle of intelligence? God, technology sure is upgrading faster and faster with each passing year. I just don't want technology of this level or higher to be used for military purposes, that's just a waste.
I think we already have a thread for this.

Anyway, like I said in the other thread AI has always interested me, so I definitely want to watch this. I wonder how this will turn out.
Bah, the Media forum.. I guess it fits..

But it's on right now~

EDIT: Brad Rutter and Watson tied at $5000 at the end of the first round, now on for the next day

Welp, in the grand exciting conclusion, Watson took home the money with a lead of over $50,000, due to winnings from the first round and a $17000 gamble this second final jeopardy (he lost on a double jeopardy). Ken Jennings was second, Brad Rutter the third.

Also, Ken Jennings, in his final bet, wrote "I for one welcome our new computer overlords."
