ok, this is starting to get annoying.

This is what the message is supposed to say:



But this is what happens


From the looks of it. It's a sprite issue, but i can't seem to figure out what is causing this. The only sprites in the level are the messages. This is a vanilla hack as well.


Any ideas as to what is causing this?
How is the thunder effect I see every once-in-a-while (see SMWCP's "Spectral Abyss") created? Is there some vanilla way to do it?

Are you using the level that used to be a switch palace? It looks like the box is trying to draw the special tiles for the "The power of the switch you have pressed will turn . into ." The message boxes are weird for those levels. You can change which levels these are by going in the OW editor to Overworld > Change special message levels.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that there is. There is a custom sprite here that will do it though.

I'm not sure if there's any other ways, but maybe you could try to imitate it using Palette ExAnimation. It probably won't be as good and there won't be any sound effect, but it's still something.
Yep, the level was set with a switch palace level, fixed it.

Is there a way to increase the maximum amount of time in game, without it glitching? If I set the time higher than 400 in the bypass time header setting, it starts glitching when the level is passed.

How do a I change the palette of a tile for a single level?
I used to use this site a lot back in like, 2011. Hopefully you don't remember me.
If is a Map16 Tile, pick the Tile, change the palette, paste in a empty slot, press F9.
Well actually I wanted to change it for a single level because it's tile 0x1EB. If I changed it in the map16 editor it would change it in every level.

Just throwing this in here, its a bug rapport:

I'm making a level, and I have level on the overworld to access each area quickly. In one of the levels/ areas I have only one screen with a secondary exit. When I enter this level from the OW, I can get to two different areas in that secondary exit. Here comes the strange part: If I just run at once I enter the level and enter the secondary exit, then I get to the intended new area. But if I wait and not run straight to the secondary exit, I get to level 0 (bonus area) after i enter the secondary exit.

This is just really strange, but it gets stranger: If I enter the first level/ area on the OW and then play trough the whole level, I don't get the above issue when I enters this area, I can wait as long as I want.

NOTICE: No external tools or patches where used on this hack.

How do I point something to freespace, and what exactly is it?
Freespace, as the name suggest, is any free area in the ROM. Most patches require some space in the ROM to insert their ASM-hacks.

Here's a good tutorial on it.
OK, so I'm trying to insert a background ExGFX file, but whenever I load the Map16Page, the background just looks like garbled SMW graphics? Why?

Also, there were two ExGFX files, I tried both in the BG1 and BG2 slots and it didn't help to fix it.Free counters!
Just try different combinations by putting it into BG2 & BG3 or BG1 & FG2/FG3, and see which one works.

I have another question: How do we add new tiles to ExGFX files? For example, the tileset I'm using doesn't have water tiles, and I want these. How would I go about adding them to the tileset?Free counters!
Open the ExGFX file in YY-CHR (or Tile Layer Pro, whatever tile editor you use basically) and add whatever tiles you want there. To copy tiles from another file, you can simply load the file in another instance of the tile editor and copy/paste tiles from it using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. Keep in mind though that you're limited to 32 16x16 tiles for 4bpp ExGFX files.
