Feast your eyes on this.

Personally, this video got me a lot more excited for Skyward Sword. At first, when I saw the video at E3, I wasn't totally excited, but this video just got me pumped for the game.

Speculations ahoy! Here's some questions I've got for you all.

1) What do you think of SS now?

2) Graphics? Better/worse?

3) Level design and the puzzles.

4) Who could that grey hair figure be?

5) What do you think of the enemies?

I've already explained 1 earlier so I'll skip to 2 and on. Am I going insane? Have the graphics of the game actually changed? Personally, the graphics have substantially improved. Seriously, just look at it all.

Level design and puzzles seem okay so far, nothing special. As for the enemies and grey hair figure, they look pretty cool. I love the way that the figure disappears from the screen. Looks like a foe from the Twilight realm if you ask me. (Though, I highly doubt the Twilight Realm will ever be introduced in this game.)

Oh god, so excited... er talk about Zelda games in general here!

Lucas, I searched high and low in gaming and I couldn't find a Zelda thread. Pls don't close this pls.
Saw this last week.

1) Still looking forward to it very much.

2) I personally really like the new graphics style, although I'm positive others feel the opposite. So I say better.

3) Looking as good as ever. The puzzles utilizing the sword to the fullest look really nice.

4) Dunno, haven't played many Zelda games so I don't remember much about specific characters, if it is a returning one.

5) Cool.
Looks pretty cool.

1.) The same as before. Interesting.
2.) Look good.
3.) Can't say anything about it alone from watching a trailer.
4.) Prolly either a villain or some weird good guy.
5.) Look good.
1. My thoughts have not changed from before. I STILL WANT THIS GAME!!

2. The graphics are looking excellent.

3. The puzzles certainly look interesting. I like how they are using motion controls for these. As for level design, can't really comment on this from a trailer but it looks great.

4. No idea but at least it's not another Ganon.

5. Enemies look as good as ever. The one on the tightrope looks interesting and I like the idea of slicing the planks of wood.
1)Still thinking of the game the same as before, which is basically general excitement, but nothing out of the ordinary like pre-release Brawl.

2)Graphics seem the same as last trailer, but I still do like the art style a lot.

3)Puzzles look ok from what we've seen. I'm mostly interested in the WM+ combat, and how this is utilized with other enemies and bosses.

4)Sword Girl's lover. Or a deformed Vaati.

5)Enemies look great, but I'm a bit concerned about the combat being too easy. Look at the part where Link hits the Skulltula and exposes its weak spot. The Skulltula just sits there for a good couple of seconds.

About the graphics, I really do love the new art style, but I can't help feel that the environments shown in the new trailer are very bland and empty. The dungeons also look very simple as well, but hopefully this improves in other areas.
This is false advertising. Why would there be a HD trailer for a Wii game. The Wii doesn't do HD. :/

Anyway, the SS trailers I've seen so far all seem to just show off shitloads of motion control gimmicks. I am really scared that the game will be so gimmicky that I will find it unbearable to play.

Other than that, what can I say? It's another Zelda game.
You do have a point. Nintendo hasn't screwed the series up yet, law of game design says they will eventually.

I loved TP, and for me there's barely any Zelda game that will top that game for me, neither graphical as gameplay wise, and graphicly, Skyward Sword hasn't beaten it by far yet, and gameplay wise I think it'll be too gimmicky.

Also, I had a conversation with Aqua yesterday and he brought up a very good argument and I wanna know what you guys think.

Is there a clash between Link and his surroundings?

Graphics come down to a matter of taste.

Also, Twilight Princess was decent enough (on the GameCube, at least - I personally found the Wii version horrible), but it had a lot of repetition in it (collecting Tears of Light) and a largely uninteresting soundtrack. And to be perfectly honest, I hate the looks of being in the twilight. It is so damn blurry that it causes eye strain. It also felt like they put in a lot of collectibles and side quests as compensation for a short main quest (looking at the amount of dungeons/temples).

Despite its flaws, I definitely agree that it took the franchise to a new level. The graphics in the "normal" world are indeed stunning (for the GameCube), and it does have a few great scores (such as the Hyrule Field theme), not to mention, the story is very engaging, too. It also brought in a few awesome new gameplay elements (like horseback combat).

Only time will tell if Skyward Sword will build upon the good ideas of Twilight Princess or scrap them all in favor of motion control bullshit.
I am really terified for the way they show stuff in the trailers and such, it's all motion control related, and barely anything else like in previous games.
THat's what makes me think it'll be a complex fuckload of gimmicks.

This kinda fucks some games up, however, in some instances the motion controls really make it alot more fun. (Example: RE4)

We just have to wait and see if this one will be good. Since, you gotta try it, critics say whatever they want.

The graphics look like a blend of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker even more now, which isn't so much a bad thing as it is an odd thing. They're trying to combine two incredibly different graphic styles and are expecting something great to come out of it, but it honestly looks just plain odd in my opinion... but meh.

The blade being so controllable in this is so kickass, but it'll be less fun if they just use it for gimmicks. If a blade as controllable as that were added to something like Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker, it would be amazing just because you are actually in full control of the blade itself (which is what I was hoping for in Twilight Princess, only to have those hopes crushed early on) and you aren't required to use its control to solve puzzles.

Gimmicks are fine up to the point of annoyance, which varies from person to person.

Huh? I didn't really get this. You'd rather have a controllable sword in a game like Ocarina of Time or The Wind Waker where there would be no benefit to it, yet you don't want it to be a gimmick?

I actually like the idea of using the precise sword movements in combat. I think it'd be much more fun to have unique enemies that you have to kill specific ways instead of mashing the B button, which most Zelda games have you doing. Zelda's never been too big on the combat aspect in the past, and it'd be nice to see that change for once.

What I meant was that having the precision of the blade in Skyward Sword in a past Zelda game like Ocarina of Time would be an example of what they should do with Skyward Sword. I don't want to go through the entire game having to cut certain enemies only certain ways (I.E. horizontal or vertical cut only enemies, or having to cut enemies only at a certain angle) to kill them as it would quickly drain the fun of fighting enemies.

I forgot about Skyward Sword.

All this 3DS fiasco made me forget a Wii, PS3, and 360 even existed. :(

NINTENDO IS AMAZING AGAIN.

I can't believe they actually did something like this. I wonder how bored that person had to be to play the trailer backwards and listen in for anything secret.
Heh, that's amazing.

This has too much "oh my god your controller is wireless and it acts like a thingy" in it. Basic Zelda gaming is much better. This will never beat Twilight Princess.

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it. If anything, I think this is what Twilight Princess should've had, especially since, if anything, Twilight Princess was more of a "waggle fest" than this is looking like (though I do love Twilight Princess).

Also, I haven't seen anything as amazing as that video in a long time.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
Ok, shoot, I am bumping this thread.

So, since the last post here, a lot of new information has popped up. We've got:

E3 2011 Trailer
16 Minute Interview/Flying Segment/Sky Temple Gameplay Video
Flying Segment Video
Lord Ghirahim (new villain) Boss Battle Video (Includes Cutscenes!!)
Same-But-Slightly-Different Trailer feat. Random Goron
Aonuma Interview That Reveals Exciting Details
Aonuma Nintendo Power Interview (MORE exciting details)
Aonuma Nintendo Power Interview: Part 2
BONUS: A video where you can actually hear the Sky Temple music

I'm probably missing stuff. Here's a big summary list of things that were mentioned in the Nintendo Power interview, copy/pasted from gonintendo:

Quote
- game is in the final stages
- Miyamoto working on the final touches
- localization going to be underway soon
- worked hard to increase the variety and richness of the gameplay over the last year
- story is centered on the creation of the Master Sword
- Link sort-of forges it along the way
- Link and Zelda are great childhood friends in Skyloft
- Link must hunt down Zelda to save her from the land below Skyloft, which one one has visited before
- Zelda is in no way a princess in the traditional sense
- Zelda is both sweet but has another strong side to her
- Link will use Zelda's harp to find something important
- playing the harp involves strums and the MotionPlus, and is based on the rhythm of strumming
- quite a few fully orchestrated songs, but not all
- the design choice with Lord Ghirahim was to make a villain opposite the style of Ganon
- there most likely is not a relationship between Ghirahim and Vaati
- Skyward Sword comes before Ocarina of Time
- the Triforce sort of takes on a different meaning and plays a different role in the stor
- Ganon will not appear in the game
- the guys at the bird race are part of a knight academy that Link is a part of
- these knights oversee the school, and [the people are] also his classmates
- there's also a vast world above the clouds as well–little islands floating in the sky all over the place
- these places feature events and scenarios that play out
- the bird is used for travel and racing

Other details, from the older interview, included details like the fact that Skyloft will be similar to Clock Town from Majora's Mask, and that the game will touch on Ganon's backstory. The Interview/Sky Temple Video mentioned an item upgrade system that's in place, and that rupees will have more of a use in Skyward Sword compared to past games.

I'm actually really excited for Skyward Sword. After hearing and seeing what's been shown, it seems like this game has a LOT of potential in just about every single gameplay aspect, and is fixing things that a lot of people found wrong with past Zelda games. Maybe I'm overhyping it here, but I think that Skyward Sword could turn out to be my favorite Zelda game since Majora's Mask.

I'm also looking forward to seeing how Ghirahim works out; while some Zelda games have been pretty terrible in terms of introducing new villains (Bellum, Malladus, Onox, FourSwordsVaati), games like Oracle of Ages (Veran) and Minish Cap (Vaati) had pretty solid non-ganon antagonists, and considering the director of those games is working on Skyward Sword I have pretty high hopes. In what little footage we've seen of Ghirahim, he's appeared in at least 3 individuals parts of the game already. Lack of involvement in the bulk of the game was what outright killed any potential the DS villains, Onox, and FourSwordsVaati had, but luckily it seems this game won't end up like that.

So yeah. I'm pretty hyped for this right now. Still no release date though, but they're aiming for a Holiday 2011 release.
