Welp, a little update. I haven't actually worked on this hack a lot the past time - a shame, really, as I do like working on this hack. I'll try to my best to cram in some more time for this hack in the near future.

So, this is part of that secret path to Ferdinand Y. Fuzzy. You will see him here in a cutscene, talking to one of his loyal Fuzzies (who will be a relatively serious nuisance to you later in the level).

Besides you (the player), another intruder (a random Chargin' Chuck) was spotted inside the cave and he enters the screen near the end of the cutscene. Apparently, Ferdinand Y. Fuzzy has a strong aversion against intruders, and he shows this by sucking the life juice (read: blood) out of Chuck. You can definitely expect this leeching Fuzzy to become a pain in the ass, when you fight him.

So, the journey continues. Having been in the open for a little while, now the player goes underground in a Fuzzy-infested cavern.

Great leaps have to be made sometimes, as shown here. Of course you will need to have picked up quite a bit of speed before making that jump.

Here's your next semi-serious obstacle: a Spittin' Fuzzy. This setting is a bit different from other instances though. Instead of the usual Fuzzy that comes out of his mouth, a Bob-Omb (Iceguy's Bob-Omb sprite on the site, with a few tweaks) will appear. As usual with (mini-) bosses, you will have to use the projectiles he throws/spits out against him. All the same here - use the Bob-Omb explosions to knock him out.

You cannot advance, nor turn back, as soon as the battle commences and the boss music plays. You have to defeat this guy.

Those Bob-Ombs can become pretty dangerous. Not only do they explode (and obviously, those will hurt/kill you if you're within the radius), but they can easily push you in this wall too. Stay away from that place if you don't want to die, regardless of your powerup.

The Spittin' Fuzzy has been defeated, allowing you to continue. (Used blocks turn into coins, no P-Switch or anything involved, so you don't need to hurry or something like that.)

Always follow signs, if they are given. If you don't, you might feel sorry.

Now that there is a waste of a powerup. Which reminds me - powerups are somewhat scarce in my level (and actually, my hack as a whole). So take advantage of them as much as you can.

You enter the next room, and there comes your next and forelast obstacle in this level. This one is a bit different from the previous one, as it does not actually involve a (mini-) boss fight of some sorts. As you can see in the picture, in front of you is a two-block high wall. You can push it to the front if you bash into it fast enough. That way, you can advance and eventually push the wall into a void.

However... a little further (not visible in the screen), the loyal Fuzzy you saw earlier in the cutscene is there, waiting for you. He can push the wall back into the opposite direction, slowing you down.
Although his speed is random (and thus he won't quickly bash into the wall), his great advantage is that he can bash into the wall much more powerful than you can, moving the wall to the left 2 blocks. You usually don't get further than 0.5-1.5 blocks per bash (depending on how fast you run into it.)

Due to Fuzzy's movement, luck plays a little role in this, but there is a strategy: the best thing to do is to gain some extra space as quickly as possible, in order to be able to run a longer distance (and gain more speed) before bashing the wall.

So what happens if Fuzzy wins? You will get crushed.

(A little difference I applied to this room, is that there is an inaccessible pipe to the left of the player, instead of a cave wall. This is due to the fact that the player also enters a pipe before coming into this room.)

If you make it, you will advance to the boss, preceded by a long trail of coins.

The boss is a WIP. I can show it eventually, but perhaps I won't until I have a few more levels done.

That's it for now.

Apparently, all of your updates are so crappy that no one responded. You should just give up hacking.
#w{=D}

Seriously, though, all of these developments are looking great. Your cutscenes are great. How are they set up right now? Ferdinand Y. Fuzzy definitely looks like he is going to...suck.

This underground tileset you are using is also interesting. It looks like a heavy modification of that SMAS:SMB2 one you are pretty fond of using. Did you make it yourself?

Your mini-boss looks great -- I've always wanted to see something like that implemented (well) into an SMW hack. I like that you're using those SM64-style Bob-Ombs, too. Why does that wall auto-kill you though?

I really like the pushable wall concept, too -- it's a really unique and interesting idea.

Is all of this inside of one level? If so, it's an amazing amount of gimmicks in just one level.

You are really making this into its own unique game that stands apart from all others. I can't wait to see more progress. Hopefully you will start getting more feedback, too.

[?] Miscellaneous Helpful Hints
If I moderated your hack, there was apparently a 90 percent chance it was rejected.
I really like how this level has all these different gimmicks. It really adds to the gameplay and also reminds me of DKCR for some reason...
Great Job!
Small graphical updates here. I would like some feedback on the following things:

This Bullet Bill. Disregard the pipe, that's just a pipe to get to the boss room quickly.

The new outlines of the background and the two Fuzzies. Yes, I am working on Ferdinand Y. Fuzzy here. Basically, his only attack is latching onto you, but he can spit out a couple of Fuzzies too which will do the same. When you kill him (which will be by means of a laser that you need to activate), the cement blocks will disappear and you will go to a secret level. Also, you'll get a special reward... but that's not for now.

Looking good as always, Roy. I'm glad to see the laser idea being implemented. Also is that... blood on the last screen coming out of Mario?
Looks pretty nice. I like the look of the levels so far.
I'm a little late to the party--but all I have to say is WOW! The day/night system is one of the most ambitious things I've ever seen! My (mothballed) dream hack was going to feature one, and it's reassuring to know that it's possible--although I was hoping it would be the first ever hack to have it :(

Yes, I am actually also working (or rather, going to work) on some sort of system that changes the player's skin colour in such a way, that the more blood is drained from him, the paler the colour gets. I think it would be a nifty thing to add in, just for the heck of it.
Note that blood sucking isn't the only method that can be used to drain Mario's HP, so I have to add a seperate counter here. All not too difficult though.

Thanks for the replies, everybody - as always, they are appreciated. ;)

Relevant to your interests. It's the Ferdinand Y. Fuzzy battle. I think I'm done with that part.

Nothing much else, although I can say the first level (Short Dunes) is done. That means I can work on level 2 (Port Cadezzo) now, though I may want to edit the level end routine (can be seen in the video) a little more. It's a little bit bland.

Sorry Roy, but your dignity is in another castle!

Regarding the boss idea, I gotta say it's nice to see the gun idea being implemented, though I feel Ferdinand doesn't appear to attack too often, and that it perhaps has a little too much health. Perhaps make it jump around faster when it has less health... or something?

Also, I can't help but feel that gun sprite seems somewhat familiar...
Mario with a gun? I never thought I'd see this in a SMW hack! 8>

Interesting opinion.

Well, do keep in mind this is really only an optional boss for the first level. I shouldn't make the boss battle too difficult. I think the battle's difficulty is fine as it is. It's pretty easy in the beginning, and it gets a little harder when the two circling Fuzzies appear. Because, honestly, you can see it in the video too - if Ferdinand latches on to you at that point, you can die very quickly.
I honestly don't think more attacks are necessary here. That's just my opinion. But I could adjust the jumping speed, though I'm not too comfortable with that. If I make the speed higher, chances are Ferdinand will have a higher chance of getting stuck in a wall.

And yes, I based the graphics of that gun and bullets off Terraria's musket and bullets.

Mario with a gun, seen that like 3 times.

But yeah, that looks like a interesting fight =P

Joking aside, that looks awesome, in the future you could have an idea about making a game from scratch, judging by the pause menu (or select button?).

I'm just about to point out a technical fault which is really nothing more than me nitpicking but for whatever reason, the gunshot sound is only coming out of one speaker instead of both. Might be something you want to look into.

Surprisingly, I did notice this but I didn't regard this as a big issue. I noticed this happens in the original game as well. It's sound effect #$1A in bank $7E:1DFC. That appears to be the castle destruction bomb SFX.

I don't really know how to fix that yet, as I frankly don't know much about music in SMW at all yet. Custom music and other trickery with music and SFX will probably be one of the last things I'll add to my hack.

That Looks a Awesome hack, Good Job Roy!
As I recall, the castle destruction bomb sound comes through the right speaker due to the castle in the destruction sequence being on the right hand side of the screen (heck even the fizzle pans from left to right). I'd say replace it with the bullet bill firing sound, there's no point making a mono version of the sound effect and there won't be much of a noticeable difference.

Or I can just not play the hack with my sensitive headphones in.

But this sound fits the gun better. A Bullet Bill shot is lame and also doesn't match up very well with a gun shot.
