How come people aren't listening to the radio?

How do you even listen to it? Out of curiosity I randomly clicked it one day and it just keeps saying "Waiting for video."
So I was waiting for the initial hype to die down, which it now has, so I reckon it is now time to start some webcasts and stuff like that.

I think we should start some sort of offical webcast and have it first aired on the radio. When we play the next webcast then we could upload the prevous one on the site somewhere.

What do you guys think?
I want music not a podcast. >_< If you want a podcast, keep it seperate from the radio.
layouts suck

If you don't want to give it a chance, fine.

BUT, before the radio dies again, I would want to at least try to give it a try. What do we have to lose?
To begin; if you guys are having problems listening with the link on the site, I have an old Flash Embed prepared on my own space;

Posting it here because it seems it might help someone.

We'll do what it takes to get more people listening and more feedback (that's actually -from- people who are actually listening).

Currently, the radio has too few listeners for us -not- to experiment (when Chikane's only got 2 listeners, we have a problem!). While we're told "More of X music", we get more of X music but the radio still doesn't get a good flow of listeners; in fact, I tend to get more ratings by disregarding what complaints people tell me and doing something I thought of entirely by myself, and I get frustrated when it seems that my lowest amount of listeners outside of "2 AM in the morning" tend to be during times I actively play requests.

If a podcast brings more listeners to the radio, then we'll have a podcast. That simple.
Since the podcast is likely gonna just be something on during a set hour on a Friday or weekend or something, it won't be a major intrusion upon the amount of music in the playlist.

I'll gladly try to help on a podcast if one can get off the ground.
A question about copyrighted music, would this be copyrighted music?

If not, I could probably be DJ once in a while and play song from that album.

The DJ can play any music that they have, copyrighted or not. The thing is, people aren't allowed to request copyrighted music here.
Oh, I have the music then.

So...is there like a sign-up thing or vote we do? Or is it first come first serve?

It's first come, first serve. Just ask the current DJ if you can go next.
Seems like every time I look at the current song its some video game song from some game Iv never heard of. Id listen to it a lot more if people just played some actual songs once in a while.

Done it a million times, no one cared.

I, rather frankly, get annoyed of the times when I get this complaint -as I play what is considered "actual songs"(which to most of the folks here is apparently just a bunch of overdriven guitars blasting at volumes loud enough to make my ears bleed)-.

None of the DJs up to this point in the third iteration have played VGM exclusively, and a good amount don't even play VGM to any substantial degree!
Agreeing with Kiddo here. I'm not sure what you mean by "Actual Music" but VGM is actual music as well. A lot of people listen to it; (Maybe not so much on this site). It's basically just another type of music.

I'm not sure of the times you log in but there's quiet a few DJ's who do play Rock and Metal or W/E. You just have to come on the right days.

If you have a problem with the share of VGM playing just simply continue to listen to your own music from your computer or Ipod. (Not saying you do, just saying in general)

More importantly, if you want to guide the radio in a certain direction, have the actual listeners speak for it!
Request some bands/artists/songs you like (I'm on AIM, IRC -and- Skype.) and get a -group- of people to listen all at once. Tell me, -as specifically as you can-, what songs you don't want on the radio and why (EXAMPLE: "Kiddo, you should not play 'Juice' from Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt's Soundtrack because the explicit-sounding sex noises is not appropriate for a Super Mario World community." <- based on an actual music banning... unfortunately for me.), rather than broad, vague, and, currently, outright inappropriate swings at "VGM".
Get some -consensus- on what's good for the radio (as I seem to have a problem finding one in the IRC communities, especially when I take requests.)
And jeez, a little -positive- feedback could help, too. I feel a little better when someone actually comes up to me and says "Hey, can you send me [X] song? I really liked that one!"
I think that the lack of listeners has much, much more to do with a lack of audience than what music is being played. I've listened to the radio, and I think it plays a nice blend of VGM and 'real' music (although all music is technically real). We've found our niche; now we need to draw crowds in.

Podcasts could work, but could we go further? I've seen certain radio stations use apps to let people tune in with their iTouch/Phone/Pad. Could Caffie Radio have one of those as well?

Another way we could lure listeners is by purchasing ad space on other websites--and not just video-games/hacking sites. Remember when we had a contest to design SMWC ads for Jul? Hold one of those, have people design ads for Caffie Radio, and buy space first on websites with a similar userbase (Jul, Talkhaus, etc.) and then expand to other sites.

Now that we've purchased the new server, couldn't we funnel donation money into this?
I, for one, was very pleased with a large portion of the lineup I heard yesterday. So pleased, in fact, that I listened for probably a good 5-6 hours! I am particularly fond of the F-Zero remixes I heard, and I might actually have to pester ya for some of them, as I didn't always catch the remixer's name! Hearing some Hokuto No Ken music got a "haha, man that's awesome," out of me too. I also love the bumps! Ya do those yourself, don't ya, Kiddo? If I remember, you have a really good Mario impression, which works out well for the theme here. My favorite though is "What is a Caffie Radio?", simply because the Richter and Dracula dialogue is just about my favorite thing ever. If I had to pick out something that seemed a little 'too much' yesterday, it would probably be The Nigga Song, though at that point I am not sure if I was the only listener or not, and I don't personally mind it.

However, I honestly don't really think there's too much that can be done to get a solid listener base back with just what's on the currently playing. Many more people tuned in frequently when it was new (true with every iteration of the radio), but I think for the most part they just go back to listening to their own collection after a little while, as I doubt anything can satisfy their musical tastes better than their musical selection, and they just don't care for listening to new stuff; regardless of if it's VGM or not (add the fact that you stated listeners actually dropped more during request playing, and you have a very tough situation to cater to). In order for activity to spike, it pretty much has to be made a big deal out of, as when it revived most recently, and the whole eShroom radio takeover (though I am guilty of immediately tuning out as soon as I heard the intro to that one infamous song about a certain weekday!).

Ah, man. It is pretty sad, you puttin' a good deal of effort forth to make this work, but people don't seem to care anyway. I haven't been to the IRC since the last incarnation of the radio died out, but I might have to check it out. I'd be less of a pest this time, now that I actually have some idea of how to use IRC!(I still remember accidentally breakin' the radio for a short while by downloadin' something off the FTP once! Good times!)

Yep, thanks a lot for keepin' this thing going. Just like last time, you seem very dedicated to making this into a good thing.
And then Atma puts on an .spc playlist >_>
Almost every time I come here, I look at the current song and go "(S)he's playing that?!" and immediately tune in. I usually listen for 3-4 hours.

The radio is awesome. :>

If it consoles you [would-be-complainers] any, I told him to tone down big time on the "SMW Addmusic" hacks (Especially after some SPC of Guile's theme from SF2 in Addmusic played -twice-), and supplied him various alternative SNES .SPC sets instead. He mostly just wants to have fun with this here.

ALSO: He gets more listeners than I do on a regular basis in spite of supposed complaining.
I would really suggest that you guys stop worrying too much about the listener count. It was 20-40 initially and during C3, and probably won't reach that again at any point soon because, as has been stated, the initial hype has died down. Now, I'm all for "expanding" it to other sites if you guys want to, but that would also mean there would need to be people willing to constantly DJ (doesn't seem to be a problem so far - it's been up about 98% of the time I've checked).

That, and at least it's there if people want to tune in whenever. It doesn't need to be made a trial of trying to get the listener count as high as possible. Sure, more is good, but a steady 7-15 listeners (which I've seen for the past few days) is fine too.
*/me joins the thread*

I guess that changing that "x minutes and y seconds of being cool" text could help. At least for me, it looks like everyone tunned on the radio are doing it only to look being cool, which isn't true.
Or... is it? :V

Oh, also, how can someone become a DJ?
