A Severed Freedom - [Progress]2

For the past two years, I've made it a tradition to post content from my current Super Mario World hack, A Severed Freedom. It began with this announcement thread, then this one, and then this faux cancellation that only showed more progress.

I am happy to report that over the past six months, I've completed several more levels and have new content to share. As has been the case in the past, I will not be releasing any demos or level sampler: this is a full-fledged project with over 50 levels, and I want to give players the whole experience. The hack is now well over halfway done.

And without any further adieu, content!

As always, I'd like to thank everyone for their continued support. Even as I go through college, I'm still able to regularly work on the hack. It's getting close, but likely will not be ready for release until next year. Thanks again for visiting!

You are kidding me. This is AMAZING!

I'm so freaking happy you're still working on this hack. Really good job. The screenshots look very nice too. Loving the constant graphical style. <3
These are some beautiful graphics you've drawn. In spite of a busy schedule, you're still putting time into this hack, and I know that the finished product will be stellar.
Your hack has been progressing at a very steady pace, ever since it was known as "IT." I'm very excited to see how this will turn out, because it is still in pieces for me. The level design, graphics, and general story line is superb. Being a sap for plotlines, I would love to see how this turns out as a finished product.

Oh, and one thing...

Miss Rarity, I'm afraid those are your worst outfits yet.
It looks great! I'm looking forward to this!
insert usual "blah this is going to be the best hack ever when it's released" line here.

As an addendum this time, the levels are getting more and more unique, and they're really straying from the usual themes hackers have so grown to love. You can tell just by looking at these screenshots - we have a hauntred library, a western silhouette level, a factory, a carnival, a jail, a wireframe area, and .. heh. What'll make these levels truly fun to play for people is the sheer uniqueness in each one.

Continued love and respect from me, as always.

To be associated with such garish outfits D=
Yet another hack I'm waiting for, it's good to know you are still working on this supertails.

I like how the GFX style of this hack is very congruent and unique as well, no clashes or anything of the sort; I guess I can say the same about the music. I'm curious about the last screenshot though, what could it be?

Now, about the levels, Western Sunset looked nice, the monochrome really gives the feeling you are in a desert at sunset, and the enemies match the theme really nicely, furthermore, the conveyor ropes add a nice tough to the level. The vertical part needs some more danger though.

Flicker Factory was very nice as well, and very unique too as S.N.N. pointed out, the first room requires the player to act fast since the tiles swap to solid to non solid, and the platform part looked challenging, the level had a nice design overall.

Good luck on finishing this hack.
This looks absolutely amazing, Supertails! You've turned SMW into almost a completely different game and it's brilliant beyond recognition! Keep up the excellent work!Free counters!
I have never seen a hack as atmospheric as this one. Your dark, grainy graphics are incredible and your level design is downright professional. Keep up the fantastic work.

I'm definitely looking forward to the final release.
I can't believe the fact that year by year, the progress on your hack becomes better and better. But it's still true, and I'm even more amazed than last year. Seriously, these level concepts look very creative and very well done, I'm especially curious how the level in the 6th and 8th screenshot will look like. I watched both of the videos, I really loved the levels you showed (although those "silhouette" type levels aren't my top favorites, yours look creative enough - not to mention the excellent music).
The new songs you linked are pure amazing. I just really wonder, how the heck can all of this be in one ROM? Using that many sample banks takes so much space (or doesn't it?)...I'm sure you know some extreme space saving methods.

Speaking of ports...now excuse me for the stupid smiley, but:

I can't believe you actually ported this epic theme. Not to mention, it's amazingly well done, it's very-very close to the original. My hat's off before you, Supertails.
This hack looks extremely good! I still know it as "IT" though.

But still, exellent hack!
YOUR layout has been removed.

That factory level reminds me sooo much of a level from Donkey Kong Country Returns...

Maybe you got ideas from that?
The GFX style you have looks very "professinal". Keep up the good work!
Wow...where do I even begin?

Everything is simply incredible. Each update on this hack has been better than the last, and this one is no exception.

Firstly, the Western level is beautiful. Awesome port there, that was one of my favorite tracks from the Ace Attorney series. The silhouette concept, while it has been done in a few SMW hacks, looks superb in your hack and with that particular setting.

The Flicker Factory was one of the levels that caught my eye in the cancellation hoax video, great to see some more of that level. I really love the idea of flickering blocks, looks be a lot of fun.

Overall, the level design looks to be some top-notch stuff.

Also...

This is just plain awesome. Wardrobe choices, I assume? But this doesn't look like girls' clothing. :O

If this hack doesn't make it to the top spot once released, I'd be very surprised. Excellent work! =)
I can't think of anything to say, due to recoil from how incredible the hack is.

I'll settle with saying I can't wait to play it.
Let me just say that I love the look of this hack - it's really different from what is usually done with Mario hacks, and honestly looks like a late SNES game.
I also really like your level design, specifically in just how different you made those two levels in terms of design yet kept the same amazing level of quality. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for silhouette levels.
Great job on all this; I can't wait to eventually play this.

Please draw the graphics for my hack.

...er, I mean, looks great. I like the themes you used, and I'll be interested in seeing how they'll play out. Good work.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
This. Hack. Is. Sex.

Seriously, this looks bloody brilliant. I am definitely paying more attention to this whenever you post future updates. I had made the mistake of thinking this hack wasn't gonna be as good as Elementia when you first announced it, and... Gah, I was stupid.

Can't wait for the final release!
Good fucking bye.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

I'm still looking mighty forward to ASF, though a couple of things get to me compared to last time.

- This is the more minor of the two, but Ama's hairband. On side shots, it's firmly at the top of her head, but shots from behind (spin jumping, climbing), it's as if it's on the back of it. I suppose an explanation for one instance is that she's looking straight up when climbing.
- Western Sunset's BG. All-in-all, it looks very well made and the level itself looks fantastic (I've been meaning to try something similar for my own works), but I don't believe that the BG should be H-scrolling in the level because of the sun in the background. If it's put on it's own layer (such as Layer 3) then go for it, but as it is, it just doesn't look right to me.

Other than that, it looks like smooth sailing from my view and I will echo the general responses you've received so far. Though on a final small note, it's nice to see some a hack with an HP system actually HAVE custom health. I've encountered one hack too many that don't do that or do it too late into the game.

HOLY SHIT!! This looks more like a whole different game rather than a Mario hack. The graphics are freaking INCREDIBLE and the level design looks fantastic. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of this hack. #w{=D}
