World 10: Designers' Discussion

I'd like the designers of World 10 to use this thread to collaborate on ideas and such (that way we prevent repeats of gimmicks, graphical usage, etc.)

Thanks.
Okay I know I haven't officially recieved the level 137 yet, but I'd like to toss around my ideas yet in advance if thats okay.

Alright, so I was thinking about making some kind of Nightmare level, where Mario either goes through his past actions towards all these enemies destroyed by his hand (being haunted by a inner voice / A.K.A cutscenes), or overcoming his greatest fears. (Cutscenes, too?)

It really depends on what kind of music I'll use.
I had in mind to use very simple graphics. Black background with white linear FG. What I want to do is to make something great out of something yet so basic. Perhaps if I can make the FG shift in color or opacity. Though I am a vanilla hacker and have limited skills in the advanced ways of hacking.

With these ideas and these graphics, I would like to attempt to create visions of Mario's inner fears or dark memories of pain and evil, as well as using all the vanilla sources to make a varying, challenging inner journey.

I have a song in my files that I'd much, much like to use for my level. However there are already 3 songs to choose from for this level, or to compose one yourself. Is it okay to add in this song of mine in that place?
It would probably help my creativity a lot.

Though if thats not okay, I'm cool with that.

Although that is quite the theme of my level (the creepypasta i mean, lIves wHo died by hIs hanDs, Etc).
I see. In that case I'll stick to my "Fight the Nightmare/Fears" idea.

But for that, I'd love to use this song of mine.
I'll PM SNN about it.
Ok. I like your ideas

PS I HIDE, from whAt?

EDIT: To the author of Level 137, whoever you may/might be/become, please let me know how your level starts. Although I might be a bit biased as I like Senjan's level idea as a guide to end my level.

If Senjan becomes in control of 137, I will end my level a bit outside Enharmonic Haunt (the building), so that there's something that will put Mario into a nightmare trance.
That would be cool, indeed.
If I get this level, we could meet up at #smwcp and pass the ideas around.
I have a question. Is world 9 the last world or a bonus world?

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

For the time being, it's a bonus world that's only available after completing the main game.

A message (especially to the Designer of Mystical Mayhem, dragonphoenix29):

Since Senjan and I are planning on making levels inside a ghost house, and our levels are just before yours, I think I should put the Enharmonic Mansion floating in the sky a bit, and then Senjan's nightmare level will eject Mario higher up, so that he'll fall on top of the asteroid.

We'll just discuss more on the possible ideas.

Sounds like a good plan, I'm all for continuity will the hacks levels, and it works out since my level leads into the next one after it. (and I just put a few quick pics up in my topic)

Well,about world 9 and the SMWCP2...
Could make the stage with flashback of bosses from SMWCP1??
Should be interesting for World 9,don't think??
Why don't put like final stage of World 9??

After of final stage of World 9...
Would put some changes in enemies styles or in overworld??

Should be fun,don't think?
I hope this help in your progress...
Why does that looks so robotic? lol.

But maybe it would be a good idea for bringing back those bosses, maybe for a minigame in a hub?

That is extremely lazy as hell and requires zero effort to make.

Just an OW-suggestion:

It would be quite nice if World 9's Subworld map is revised so that each level can be seen on it (A floating ghost house for the Haunt, a black blur with dreamy squiggles for World of Within, a meteor for Mystical Mayhem, etc.)
To my knowledge, the overworld isn't even started. The one we have is a placeholder, and SNN is even willing to move some levels around if needed.
I'm pretty sure your idea will be in the final version, but something tells me it's a little too early to think about it now.

I seem to have trouble with how to design the blueprint level. What comes to mind when you think of "blueprints"?

--------------------

Status of my Hack:

Prototypes, perhaps?
I recall at one point your level had objects that seemed to trace and erase. Maybe you could utilize a platform gimmick where they trace onto the foreground, becoming temporary ledges until they erase and become thin air.

Another idea I had was enemy outline drawings in the background that could come to life and start moving at you approach them.

Monty Moles that rip through the blueprint? You were using that particular sprite GFX set, so why not?

Just a quick note to all of you W9 designers that at this point, you probably shouldn't consider the level order finalized for the most part. That is, I might do a bit of rearranging. For instance, 136 may end up being the last level, 138 may be the first, etc. (unless Mineyl goes through with that "introduction to the dream world" gimmick in his level, in which case I'll leave his alone). The reason for this potential flip-flopping of levels is because:

a) Most of the levels are relatively similar in difficulty from what I've seen.
b) Given the design of a couple of levels, they may fit better at the end of the world as opposed to early on, and vice versa.

Yep.
I... quite agree with that, although it would be nice if there are PM's or notifications sent to us designers if such thing happens.
