Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - 98%

ONM (Offical Nintendo Magazine reviewed the remake and gave it the highest score to any game they have given.

Not really a fan of Zelda, but I felt this was worth mentioning.
Do you have a link? I can't seem to find it on their website.
Well, y'know, the original Ocarina of Time is usually regarded as one of the greatest games ever made. If it's a good remake then I guess it should score just as high, if not higher.
That depends on whether the concept is still as impressive as it was on the N64.

Also, don't assume it's fantastic because the official magazine says so, they can be extremely bias and usually rate games published by Nintendo unfairly high. I always go for unofficial.

Why couldn't it be called 'Nintendo Official Magazine'? Then the abbreviation would be 'NOM'.
I'm so glad to get a game i already have 4 times...

...and it will still be awesome!

ONM magazine started when NOM magazine stopped actually, sorta like a sequel; I used to buy NOM.

They have given rather poor reviews to Nintendo Games every once in a while.

Also, IGN gave it a 9.5.
This is probably going to be one of the first 3DS games I'll buy. I remember that a friend of mine either owned a copy of the original or had borrowed it from a friend of his (yes I actually know somebody who owns a N64, but that's just because his parents wouldn't update the home console), but he would never let me play it because he thought I would fail too much at it or something.
Good fucking bye.
I'm actually completely surprised by OoT3D's high scores. Maybe it's just me, but a port of an outdated 13 year old game with a fresh coat of paint and no new content in the slightest doesn't seem like something that would get scores on par with some other great entries in the series like The Wind Waker. Maybe I'm just biased because I think OoT3D was one of Nintendo's laziest efforts in remaking a game. The game runs exactly the same bar a few glitches being fixed, isn't as visually impressive as other 3DS titles, and the only new content they did include is stuff that was already available to anyone that cared. OoT may have been groundbreaking at its release but it really shows its age in today's standards.

Yeah I mad.

Yeah I mad.

I think they only made it because the people at E3 wanted it. That's what I originally heard, although I've also been told that Nintendo was working on it all along... :/ I think it's more plausible that they had no plans to make it until E3, considering they DID jack up the price of the 3DS because of all the people that were excited for it. I wouldn't be surprised if this was true.

But yeah. OoT3D comes out today. I'm very unsure if I want to get it or not. On the one hand, I'd like something to play on my 3DS other than my DS games and DSiWare. (And DK '94, which I will get today.) On the other, I've already beaten OoT once and don't really feel like replaying it again for reasons I am sick of stating every time I mention it. Plus, I've heard there's literally no new content to the game other than being able to refight bosses and get hint movies from new stones. :/

and I don't think it's amazing and the best game ever

wait a second, i thought it said that after completing the normal game, it unlocks Master quest, along with mirroring the dungeons. both reviews i've read said that this happens...

...and Boss rush

Master Quest was released on the Gamecube, mirroring it and upping the enemy damage doesn't really change that. Boss Rush is just letting you play boss battles that were already in the game over again. That's not really anything when you compare it to a game like Super Mario 64 DS, where they added 3 characters, 30 stars, and a bunch of multiplayer minigames.

Heck, even the A Link to the Past port for the GBA had more added content, not including Four Swords.

Well, considering you needed to have played four swords to have this content, I guess you'd have to include Four Swords.

Anyway, I love that Nintendo remastered OoT, something they should have done when they rereleased OoT, Majora's Mask, Zelda 1, and Zelda 2, all on the same disk instead of porting them together. I would have prefered if the remake would have included Majora's Mask in it as an unlockable bonus if you beat the game, considering the fact that they could just re-use the same models from OoT, and only make a couple new ones so it could fit on the cartridge. Well, at least you can have Ocarina of Time looking good and on the go, rather than the rapidly aging N64 version being ported over and over again (I'd say Majora's Mask deserves the remake treatment more than Ocarina, it's a MUCH better game in MY opinion).
I don't care what anybody says, peers or reviewers, I'm having tons of fun going through an outstanding game.

Love how you aim the slingshot and stuff by actually moving the 3DS around.

EDIT: Didn't hear about Boss Rush... That'll be awesome.

So I got it today and played through to the Forest Temple, and here's my verdict: If you're a hardcore Ocarina of Time fan, you never played the original, really want to try the Master Quest, or you're dying to play it again but don't have a Wii/N64, then by all means buy it. If Ocarina of Time is "average" on your Zelda scale, then rent it or borrow it from a friend. It doesn't really have enough new stuff to warrant buying this if you already have the original, especially compared to games like Super Mario 64 DS. It is great fun, but it might not hold your attention with nothing new to offer but revamped graphics since you're essentially just replaying the original.

I agree completely, but I think the chances are low, honestly. It took Nintendo forever just for them to release Majora's Mask on the Virtual Console, and up until then it didn't look like they would at all. If they were reluctant to even re-release it, I don't think the chances are high of a complete remake.

...I hope they do, though. I want to see the moon in HD.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
With the ALTTP Content, a mini-dungeon and a riddles sidequest that both require you to complete Four Sword isn't really that much. In the event of a WW remake I hope they at least shuffle all the treasure charts around and give that pushable block on Dragon Roost Island a use (I think make the chest on the rock appear)

I actually disagree with what some have said on new content: after buying Chrono Trigger DS, stuff like the new ending, new dungeons and sidequests were pretty poor and tacked on, and I honestly think the game was better off without them. Not to say new content in a remake can't be done, but since you're going back to alter what was a finished and published game years later, it's pretty hard to actually make it fit in smoothly. Adding a couple new medallions and dungeons to go with them might have been cool in OoT, but it's hard for me to imagine it not feeling unfitting compared to the rest of the game.

I'll pick this up Tuesday, since my 3DS is in serious need of games, I only played Ocarina once many years ago, and I'm looking forward to seeing the 3D and graphical upgrade. I'm really excited for new games like Super Mario 3D and Luigi's Mansion 2 rather than remakes, but this should hold me over for now.
Got up to the Forest Temple last night, and I'm loving every minute of it. The improved graphics breathes new air into this dated game, and makes it look brand new. For people who played it before however, you can still pinpoint marks of age. Mostly with dialogue, which is still very awkward at times. I would had hoped that Nintendo would have done a re-translation of the game, unless they wanted to keep some of the quirky dialogue for nostalgia.

Many people criticize the game for not having any worthwhile new content. While I can agree that it would have been a great addition, it is not required. Ocarina of Time was a game ahead of it's time when it came out. A 3D adventure of epic proportions that captivated the hearts of millions. And while I played the remake, I could see exactly why that happened. That charm that I captured me on that Christmas day when I first popped the cartridge into my N64 is still there, just with a fancier paper wrapped around it. I would have loved if Nintendo actually went with the original idea for Ocarina of Time and made a Light Temple, but that was the only thing I was hoping for.

The game is still huge, and a blast to play. ANYONE who is a fan of the series or the genre should give it a go. While it's definitely not the best Zelda in the series, it is the one just about everyone knows of when the world "Zelda" is mentioned.

But I agree, Majora's Mask deserves to be remade, as it was much better than Ocarina of Time. I see it as the black sheep of the franchise, yet it stands as my favorite game in the series thus far. Only time will tell if it gets the royal treatment, but I wouldn't count on it.
