I'm using Sunwarrior's nameless lizard (looks more like a dragon to me) character for this hack.. I'm very new to lunar magic but after entering a few contests and such i've decided to try and make an actual hack. The dragon's name is Boris (unless I think of a better name.) he's named after the Melvins song of the same name. Here's some screens of the first three levels.








Yeah that's probably enough screenshots for now although I do have the all levels for the first three worlds finished minus fixing a few bugs. No OW yet though.

Looks pretty interesting, I've never seen a hack with a dragon player before (that is quite unique, I guess!). The graphics remind me on NES graphics, which isn't always bad, they just look a bit odd with the "16-bit" SMW enemies, but it's not a big deal (reminds me on old hacks, like 2003-2005 hacks).
Also, you might want to change the "climbing pose" graphics, since they pretty much look like a caped Mario...or was that intended? Either way, great work on the hack so far. Too bad you haven't got more replies yet.
Thanks for commenting on the hack I'm glad you like it I was worried ppl were gonna find this hack kind-of bland. I only just found out about Lunar Magic last summer so I'm still learning how to do a lot of this stuff. As for mixing 8-bit with 16-bit graphics yeah I still really don't know where I'm going with this hack but hopefully it doesn't clash too bad. It's probably the choice of using smb1 lava/water graphics that throws it off isn't it? Do you think I should change that? As for the climbing gfx there's really not much I can do I'm not good at drawing my own graphics so I just downloaded this dragon character from the graphics section because I thought it looked interesting.

I'd say this is one of the better looking hacks as far as level design goes. I've only got one nitpick so far, and this is the pink palette in the first few screenshots. It might look good on its own, but it really doesn't match with the other colors on the screen. Otherwise, everything else is pretty great. Keep up the good work.

The last time I had constructive feedback in my hack thread was almost two weeks ago. Since then it's either just people complaining about it's recent name change or me showing progress.

Looks pretty neat actually, I like the use of the vanilla tiles. Also I really like those Ball n' chain graphics!

Again, great level design.

One question though: It might just be me, but a lot of these levels are castle-like, in a way. Does the story clarify the looks of the hack a bit more or...?

I never thought of that but you're right the tileset for the normal levels do kinda look like they'd better fit a castle.. Oh well. I chose them just 'cuz I thought they looked good and also I didn't wanna make the first world a standard grassland. As far as the story there's no real story yet (BTW don't look forward particularily spectacular story) and I'm not even exactly sure what the setting is yet.

Hadron is right (as always =P), I guess it's not nice to have it that underrated, so I'll post my feedback. :) Level design looks interesting, and I can see a cool use of enemies in your levels. =) Everyone has a style. It's a little hard to notice many things, but I when I looked closely, I saw neat things. =) I see it definitely has some custom blocks and isn't boring, I'm sure it will be always fun to play it! :)

Alright so this thing is like maybe 90% done or 95% done or something I dunno exactly it might even be 94.5% done but anywho I've got maybe 2 and a half levels left to make, the four overworlds, custom music and change the status bar to say BORIS and anything else that says Mario to BORIS and then I'll be ready to fire this off to some beta testers.



So if anybody cares I've had to switch out the smb1 firebar with these kind. So for anybody thinking "I'm not sure I even wanna play this hack anymore without the smb1 firebars" I'm sorry but they had to go I learned that when say for example you place one of these things on the bottom subscreen they'll still hurt mario on the top subscreen of that same screen even if the firebar is clearly on the bottom subscreen so these other firebars don't do that so that's what I'm using. I had to tinker with my ExGFX a little because the smb1 firebars were SP2 and these ones are SP4 but anywho it's all good now.

I decided the last world needed a ship.. Not a doomship style ship either with tons of cannons and stuff just a ship.



I discovered something cool that happens when you put reflecting boos in an exploding turnblock.



Don't ask me why I chose to make the final boss battle take place in a futuristic looking setting even though it is completely contradictory to the rest of the game.. It just felt right.

Hey people, this hack needs more love! :) I like the BG of the ship. Clever use of custom sprites. I see you used the enemy from Cave Story that was in the Outer Wall. Good work! I'll definitely try this when it's finished. Is there an overworld in this hack?

Alright one of the advantages of doing overworlds last is if I decided to add three ice themed levels to world 2 (which is predominately a water themed world.) then I'm free to do so. Although I'm planning on adding 3 levels to world 2 only one of them is complete so here's some screens:






Also you'll notice the new status bar that actually says "BORIS" as opposed to "MARIO"

Looks pretty good, but I have to say it's a bit weird having the land surrounded with those ice blocks instead of just ending normally? Is there some reason for you doing it that way?

Anyway, I've seen those player graphics in the graphics section for a while now, and it's great to see someone actually using them. Kudos for that.

Also, could you save your screenshots in PNG format as opposed to JPEG? The compression is often better, and it's lossless (i.e., no quality loss).

This is one of the best hacks I have seen! There are so many good things about it... I can sum it up in one word though, AMAZING! If you don't want to design the OW's, I'm always looking to design them werever I go so feel free to ask. If you want to design them yourself, then I can give you some advice if you wish.

Thanks Draaloff for saying such nice things about my hack. As it turns out the overworlds are now complete, they're not the greatest overworlds but they are finished.



Basically I'm fixing a few bugs right now but I'm very close to FINALLY finishing this crazy thing.
