This hack is frustrating me.

I just can't find a way to get through Crimson Switch. I have tried every possible way I could, and yet there's always an obstacle in my way - either by walls I cannot climb due to a lack of P-Switches or the inability to hit the ON/OFF switch at the beginning without being blocked off from advancing further inside.

I thought the ON/OFF switch at the beginning of the level had something to do with it, so after repeated egg throws to trigger it behind the outlined blocks, guess what happens. I can't proceed in the level because of the ON/OFF switch walls blocking my way past the 2nd reset door. -_-

This hack is pretty annoying, and it's only the first world. >_> It's almost Kazio-esque in terms of annoyance...

Hey guys, Yoshifanatic here again. I've got back to work on this hack, and I wanted to show some more progress.

- First off, here's the link to a video for a level that I just finished that I've mentioned in this thread before (Yoshi Theater).

I'd recommend that you read the description of the video to learn more about this level, since I don't want to repeat myself here. So far, this is arguably my most creative level idea for this hack. It took a while to get it to work the way it does now (so many screen exits and palette animations. |-O)

- Here's some screenshots showing a few customs palettes and a few noticeable graphical changes:


(Castle Crush) I love all the support this hack has been getting lately!


(Purple Switch) Oh, great! Some idiot snuck into the Crimson Switch and splattered blue paint everywhere!


(Emerald Switch) Sure looks complicated, doesn't it?

Dragon's Den (this picture contains something that I consider a spoiler. Don't peek at this picture unless you've been to this level!)

As shown in these pictures, Castle Crush now has decorations so it looks less bland. The Crimson Switch is now the Purple Switch, since I felt that it was basically a Red Switch with a different name and I wanted to change it. The third picture shows the palette for the Emerald Switch, which I think looks great. As for the fourth picture, besides the slightly altered palette, I (
changed the graphics of the dragon. The dragon was using the graphics from the NES Mega Man 2, which is kind of out of place with the overall graphics of the hack, so I wanted to make it look more 16-bit. The dragon now looks like he did in Mega Man: The Wily Wars for the Sega Genesis. Since these graphics haven't been ripped yet on the Spriters Resource, I had to find a picture of the dragon in it's 16-bit form and then, draw over the old graphics to get the dragon to look like it does now. Considering that I had to approximate it's palette and where to draw many of the details, I did a wonderful job with this.

As for LPs:

- LuigiISLame started an LP of V1.2 about a couple of weeks ago. Not much to say about it, so far.

- It seems that SparkyArX closed his youtube account, so his LP no longer exists.

- Currently, cstutor89's LP is the YSQ V1.2 LP I recommend watching the most if you want to see where all the exits are (He is the first person to show every exit in the hack).

That egg-throwing-thing from YI is very nice !
But in the first screenshot I would remove that dry-bone , because anyways it doesn't match in these day-outside-levels , but that's just my opinion ^^

its the theme of the level, forgotton the name but its a gimmick I guess!

Go right ahead. I'll be looking forward to seeing that LP when you decide to do it.

As for updates to YSQ, I've been cleaning it up a bit, by reducing the number of objects in the levels (a lot of the older levels have a lot of unnecessary dirt tiles, for example), and by deleting unnecessary ExGFX files (so far, I've found 20 ExGFX files that were completely unnecessary). I've also worked on a few more levels, such as Blackout Mansion:


Hey! I thought Yoshi was scared of ghost houses!

Looks like somebody forgot to pay the electric bill...

The gimmick of this level as you can see in these two pictures is that the lights constantly turn on and off roughly every 2 seconds (I'm not exactly sure of how long the delay is). When the lights are out, you can't see anything, but the sprites, Yoshi, and certain objects (coins, switch blocks, used blocks, ? blocks, turn blocks). Also, unlike Not Scary House, this level is a bit more maze-like, so you have to do some exploring to find the exit of this ghost house. Sadly, there is a glitch plaguing this level (and a few others) that is starting to become a problem, and I have no idea why it's happening or how to fix it. When Yoshi enters certain pipes/doors to travel between two areas with the same music, the music restarts for no reason. Does anyone know what could be causing this glitch?

As for YSQ LPs, I noticed that lionman198 started an LP of YSQ a few days ago. I don't really have much to say about it, since I have yet to watch it.

(Sorry for the late reply, by the way). That level shown in that screenshot is called "Mysterious Plain". The theme of this level is that things seem odd, so Yoshi wants to leave the area before something bad happens. The enemies and music drive this theme home. This is why there are ghosts and dry bones in this level.

Thanks! :) Yeah, this level was inspired by Blackout Basement from DKC, and the effect is done through palette ex-animation. Originally, I was going to achieve this effect by animating tiles on layer 1, and have the rest of the level on layer 2, but that limited how I could design the level and it wasted map16 space. Also, unlike in Blackout Basement, the animated colors gradually fade in/out rather than blink on/off, since I thought it would look better if I did it that way.

I know that I did one for MSQ but yeah, its because I don't really have much to do at this time with The SBCast or any ideas for videos so I am taking a break from all that and feel like looking at some rom hacks for the time being! #w{=3}

Yeah, you can make a level for YSQ. Unlike when you made a level for MSQ, I have higher standards with the level design in YSQ, so your level would need to be meet those standards (at least 12 (hex) screens, makes use of the Yoshi Ability patch, has an odd theme or a gimmick to it, terrain and enemy placement is varied a lot) if you decide to make a level. I'm going to list the level tiles that currently have no level assigned to them or I have barely started on:

Level 138: World 6 (Fire Mountain) level.
Level 123: World 7 (Sky) level.
Level 119: World 7 (Sky) level.
Level 135: World 8 (Frozen Desert) level.
Level 115: World 8 (Frozen Desert) level.

All of these levels will have one exit. Let me know which level number you want.
