You could say the Stanley Cup was .. a riot

Not sure how many of you actually watched it (assuming quite a few), but if not .. well, needless to say, Boston beat out Vancouver. That isn't really the story though - needless to say, riots broke out in Vancouver after the fact, causing an immense amount of damage. Here is a link to an album.

It amazes me how far people will go over a hockey game, honestly.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Trivia: The last time the Canucks were in the Stanley Cup Finals (1994), they lost (in Game 7, no less!) ... and a riot happened back then as well. Regardless, this is just nothing short of embarrassing for Vancouver. I don't keep up with hockey, but the fact that some people will take it that seriously surprises me too.

Freaking Canucks fans and bandwagon jumpers. u mad?

As a Boston fan in Canada (NB), I'll never have to watch again; my team won.
layouts suck
Although I never follow sports games and all (except that last soccer world cup), holy shit at the amount of damage. Is anger management really that difficult?
My blog. I could post stuff now and then

My Assembly for the SNES tutorial (it's actually finished now!)
Since I live in New England I'm required by law to say, "The Bruins won. Woo hoo."

Something a bit ironic I just thought of: "Son, stop playing those video games; they'll rot yer brain and make you go on violent killing rampages! Go outside and play some MANLY MAN SPORTS instead." I've seen more violence caused by sports than video games (especially in hockey; which is essentially boxing on ice).

I can guarantee that anger was not the only factor involved.

EDIT: And check out this quote:

Before 3rd period ended... I had to get out of there because I knew I'll be taking more than just a full Coke bottle to my back. People were starting to run away at this point, myself included.

Scary. You shouldn't have to leave a game early because you're afraid of what other people will do to you if your team loses.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.

As a Canucks fan I was pretty upset by the outcome of the game too, but I didn't go outside and smash windows and punch people in the face. Yes, I live pretty much where the riot was taking place. Just so you know, not all Canucks fans are like that. In fact, that was just a small minority of people. Mostly punks who were just using the hockey game as an excuse to go out and cause trouble. Yes it's a black mark on the city and gives Vancouverites a bad rep. But a loss is a loss. You lose a hockey game, and people remember you lost it. It's not as bad though if you compare it with people rioting and destroying their own city after a loss. It's pretty embarrassing.

I have never seen something this crazy over a hockey game ever, and personally, I think it's pretty sad they take a game this seriously. It also irks me how they boo the other team after they lost the cup. Classless in my opinion.

Aha! I love the pun in the title of this thread! I see what you did there!

On the actual content of the thread, I feel it is ridiculous that fans are rioting over something they can not change, such as the outcome of a sports game. Why not go riot against something like discrimination, something we can actually fight against? I also think the phrase "It's just a game" really is needed here.

The fact they looked proud about what they had done just confirms how idiotic a lot of sports fans can be. This isn't support, it's downright fanatical and pointless. It also hurt a lot of people and damaged local shops.

The police are also to blame, the time it took them to respond was terrible. If a riot like this had happened in the past, and Vancouver were expected to lose, shouldn't the police be put on somewhat of an alert?
