Gradius - Works in Progress

For those of you who don't know, I've been working on a new hack called Metroid: Reborn.

What is it going to be?

It's basically going to be a Metroid hack in a smw rom.

Why not hack Metroid?

Well I have three reasons:

#1 Thats too easy!

#2 I'm bored.

#3 And most of the hacks on smwc have been some random character running around jumping on enemies heads. I'm going to show you can do alot more with smw than just that.

What will be in this game?

Here is a list of things I plan to work on and have in the game:

- Password screen
- Power-ups like the Morphing Ball, Missles, Hi-Jump Boots, Bombs, etc.
- Metroid Enemies and Bosses (I might even include some custom ones.)
- Metroid GFX (I might get some people to draw me custom gfx as well.)
- Metroid Music (It will include original and maybe custom tracks.)

That is all I can think of right now.

I'm not requesting it, but it would be appreciated. I suck at level design so If you want to help with that PM me. Basically if you want to help me at all PM me. And truthfully all I really want to do is the asm, but I will complete this game by myself if no one offers to help.

Yeah sorry about that, I didn't start any level yet, and I want to finish the player GFX and Morph Ball power-up before I start level design.

Heh, I've seen the title screen a few times on IRC, and I'm impressed! The simplicity makes it fit Metroid, in my opinion. In terms of player GFX, there are quite a few here, so if there are any you are interested in, PM me, and I'll convert to SMW format for you. I might also convert some GFX also, supposing I can find some (since I'm not fantastic at custom)

I hope to see this hack succeed.

Holy damn I can't wait to play this. Keep up the similarity to the original you have so far and it'll be awesome.

A question, though, are you planning to make new levels with the same powerups and stuff or is it a remake of the original Metroid?

I'm thinking I might have some levels be somewhat similar to the original, but I'm going to try to make new levels (maybe even with new GFX). But I want those GFX to fit the Metroid style. And MSA I was looking there and I did use some of those, and I might actually PM me you later on for some GFX.

Edit: Morphing Ball. Not done yet, but its a start.

Woah, that looks quite nice! I assume you are going to make it a powerup, like your speed boosters. My only complaint is the sudden-ness of going into the ball, but I assume you will put fix that later.

Other than that, nice job!

why are you using 4 color gfx instead of all 16?Any way, I am willing to make any 16x16gfx.Any bigger or smaller and I will fail to make anything usefull.

Nicely done so far, I like the title screen the most =D Very well done. I have a question though, what was that thing in the first video when the translucent box was floating away then it was a eerie? Not critizing haha, just wondering what that is.

Making more progress. Things I'm still working on:

1. Gun
2. Power-up (Need to make the music continue after collecting.)
3. Few small things, like the random zero in the status bar.

If you wondering what that noise at the end of the video was that is a warning sound you get when you have 25 or less energy. That is pretty much it right now. I'm getting close to the level design stage, so I'll PM those who wanted to help when its time.

Well I'm pretty much at the point where we can start level design. I just need to think how to start the game off and then I can PM those who wanted to help.
