But cheery couldren looks promisning, but i think you should use some lava tiles instead of a bunch of spikes, and pipes.
Those aren't spikes--they're lavafalls. And are you saying you don't like the pipes? They're part of the level design, and they're crucial for the level's main gimmick, which I will reveal shortly! And I wish I could show the ExAnimation in the BG. It looks awesome. Anyone know how? (Sorry, in some ways I'm still a n00b)
Don't feel bad ShadowFire. I might just give another level away, and you may have another chance. In other words, don't snooze, and you won't lose!
I don't really like the sharp transition between pink/purpleish to green. But if it's in the nature of the hack, I can let it slide.
Second, I think it needs more clouds. That would look better, but I'd also say you should consider changing the palette of the clouds(and the BG color!) to something more pink as well, since the contrast looks ugly to me. The hills should have a little more decoration, too.
I like the grass, though. Just see what you can do about the aforementioned issues.
I agree with GN here. The idea is great. It just needs some work. More clouds would be nice. And the hills have a nice shape, but all that solid color looks a bit bland.
As for the sky...maybe it could be a bit lighter as well as pink/violet tinted? I'll likely add fake HDMA to it once Lost sends it to me. And maybe tint the outlines of the clouds pinkish like I did in Strawberry Scramble.
And if I put the FG in the right places I can hide the cutoffness in the base of the hills.
Yea..I've changed it quite a bit already. Yes there will be more clouds and the BG will probably be pinkish later, but is blue for now so I have some contrast to see what I'm doing. Cutoff though is going to be tough to work around but I think I've about got it.
No need to pinch yourself--you're not dreaming! I'm still in school but since this is Thanksgiving break for me, I can FINALLY give a little feedback. But this is the only time you'll hear from me until the quarter's over.
Rhubarb Ridge looks nice! Anyone who thinks it's ugly is missing the point. This hack started as a way to test my paletting skills, for crying out Jebus!
It looks kind of easy as is. What other ideas do you have in mind besides Goombas and sliding Koopas? It's in the secret world, after all.
On my end, I was working on Lemonade Desert just before my hiatus started. It's got some dinosaur skeletons made from the standard bone objects now. You'll see it when I get back!
(Lost, where have you been all this time? If you're reading this, send me a PM and I'll check it when the quarter's over.)
Patience, my friends. I'll be back with a vengeance in about 2 weeks.
Lost ECHO sent me these screenies in a PM. How do they look?
EDIT: I think the FG palettes from the previous version of RR (Rhubarb Ridge, ho ho...) look nicer. They make it stand out better from the BG, too.
Grindin' Groselha is like a deranged amusement park full of Grinders, upside-down clouds (!!), bouncing fireballs and bottomless pits. The spiraling pattern in the background is ExAnimated and looks like pulsating lights. I really need to find something to fill in all that black space. Any suggestions?
Look out! Grinders can hide behind the scenery!
Clear that block wall away and get a move on!
Top of the pyramid...
MOVE FASTER POKEY!!!
No bones about it, Lemonade Desert is a feast for the eyes! I really love how that BG turned out--it looks almost SMAS quality.
Phew, what a rush. 10 screenies for your viewing pleasure--bring on the comments! Good night and peace out!
I don't think much can be done about the bones. I was going for an overlapping effect. I might be able to make some minor changes with YY-CHR...
I just noticed the clouds in the pyramid picture look foregroundy. I'll fix them.
On another note, Key Lime Cavern should be called FUBAR Cavern for its sheer glitchiness. I said it was nearly playable 4 months ago, but every time I test it I find another cutoff corner or ceiling Mario can clip through. And that Layer 2 cave is a bitch. Consider yourself unlucky if I select you to beta test it when the time comes.
Anyone else? Feedback is greatly appreciated! Stay tuned for more.
