There are some issues I can see in your previous post:

-In the 3rd screenshot, you're probably using the castle BG as FG. That's okay, but it shares the same color of the mountains BG, which may make the player feel a bit confused. Some Map16 work shall make the trick. Another thing is the castle stone block. I'm being a nitpicky here: I think it would be better if you darkened a bit the bright yellow color, because, well, it's a bit too bright.

-In the last screenshot of this same post, you put some leaves in the mountains. It's not clashing, but it's a little out of place, because there are trees in the hills, so putting those leaves made them look like giant leaves coming out of the hills. I don't know what would be a good idea to do in this case, because it blends well, but like I said, it's a bit out of place.

As for this recent post: the font is cool and the layer 3 stars... are amazing... very nice idea you had there. :O ...
But there are some issues as well:

-In the level with chainsaws, the shading of the purple mountains in the BG is not very well made. I suggest using the "alt" command in the palette editor, if you're not already using, obviously.

-In the grasslands with castle blocks level, I can see some cutoffs in the water and in the big bush (in the last screenshot), because of the columns. I suggest making some ExGFX with the columns, adding the color of the water/bush in their sides, so they won't make cutoffs, if you're using ExGFX, obviously. If you're not, then I suggest replacing them with completely square blocks.

Anyway, level design seems unique and most of the ideas are cool, as well the palette choices. :)
I'm beyond impressed that you've stuck with this hack for as long as you have. Most people don't even stick with one for a year! Really though, awesome job. You must be very committed.

Anyway, Gloomy Star pointed out any flaws I saw as well. But dude, your palettes look so original. That's what caught my eye in the first place.
They really make this hack stand out!

Thanks a ton. I've really doubted my level design and paletting skills. They always look ugly to me after a while, no matter how hard I try. Eh, I'm my own worst critic... :/

And yes, I'm committed to the end. I'll finish this hack, and afterward I'll make some random singleton levels before I start my next hack, tentatively called "Luigi the Dreamwalker".

Progress has been excellent in the last few weeks. I hope to get a release in time for C3. I may release a "level sampler" demo if the hack isn't done and ready by then.

Stay tuned for more screenies. I'm also impressed that some of the same people have been following my hack for the past year. As release approaches, please PM me if you want to beta-test!

Some bad news: My laptop was damaged in a fall; screen is busted and it's currently in Texas getting repaired. I backed up my hack before sending it in, so I'm 99% sure I'll be able to continue it once I get my computer back, even if they wipe the hard drive.
I'm also terrible at balancing hacking with schoolwork, so that's why I haven't been logging in much lately. That may change in the future...

Keep your fingers crossed, my friends. I'll have a status update when the computer returns.

This looks as good a time as any to drop my demo of the (RE)redesigned Rhubarb Ridge, complete with pallet tweaks and more involved gameplay...

linky

Let me know what you think... This is just the main path, i'll have the other once I clear some secondary exits....

PS. Biospark, I'd like to get the levels assembled into the main patch eventually... let me know what I need to get that done once i'm finished with them...

Bai for now.

Computer is back...at last! All the data is there, so catastrophe averted. Hell to the YEAH!

On topic: That looks pretty sick there Lost! It has a flow to it that I still haven't nailed down with my level design.

I'm a bit too busy with school to jump right back into the hack, but I'll find time soon. Spring break is just 3 weeks away, so...

Bumping so the thread stays open...

and updating in roughly one hour...

Update: Orange Oasis is "done", where as I really can't do much more than tweaks till I get a fresh opinion.

So here is a new demo...

@Biospark: Please let me know what you'll need to add the level to the rest of the hack, I'd like to have it ready for you soon.

Rhubarb Ridge update next time...

Orange Oasis looks solid and fun. Go ahead and send me a .mwl file as Level 106, and the sublevel as 15F.

Time permitting, I'll replay the level and make sure it's up to standard. Looking forward to more updates.

Just gotta get off my ass and get working on this hack again...
