Tip: If you give a Muncher tile custom graphics, it will still act like a coin when a silver P-switch is active, whether it looks like a coin or not. So make sure to use ExAnimation if there's a silver P-switch in the area. Not logged in.
Trouble with Replacing/Adding sprites...

I have recently been experimenting with adding custom sprites into my SMW rom. I downloaded sprite_tool and the sprites i wanted to use. In this case it was mikeyk730's (from youtube) Spike Custom Sprite with spike ball. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZ9dv7SI3ZE . After i downloaded it i extracted it. Placed the .CFG and .ASM file's into the sprites folder in sprite_tool and also the .bin file into the graphics folder in lunar magic. I added the sprite.CFG to the sprite list with hex number and i ran sprite tool. After i have done all that and put them in my rom, i am confused as to open them in lunar magic. Can someone please help me?

once uve inserted th sprites from sprite tool go to lunar magic and press the yoshi button (sprite selector) then press the insert key and a window will pop up, fill in the appropriate boxes and wahey!

1D is the hex i chose for the sprite, but what do i fill in for the rest of the boxes?

For screen number put in the screen number you want, to see screen numbers press the blue pow door, for extra info check the readme, and XY position put the XY position you want.

For your insertion, you need to set "Extra Info" to either 2 or 3 to use custom sprites. 0 and 1 are for default normal sprites. 2 is the "default" custom sprite behavior that most(all?) custom sprites use, while 3 is the alternate behavior.

Its also generally recommended to put 44 or something in the XY before placing a sprite. That way its not in the absolute upper left corner where it can be hard to move certain ones from.

so 1D, 00, 44, 02 and you should be putting a spike in. It will look wrong in lunar magic but will be right in the game (incidentally, upper left corner of the (usually garbled) sprite you're inserting is where your sprite will be).

Thats what i get when i do that... =[

That doesn't work with the para-beetle. :\

Hi
I've tried this same thing with birdo and it just comes out to being another weird glitchy, jumpy, bullet bill shooting mess =[

EDIT that of which also corrupted my rom =[

You probably need replacement graphics for that sprite. If it's included, then there you go.

Your layout has been removed.
So does anybody have any ideas as to why these sprites are coming out like this?

If the graphics they're set to use in their ASM files haven't been added to the ROM, they won't show up correctly in the game.

Also, if you read the documentation for Sprite Tool you'll notice Mikeyk clearly states that the inserted sprites will never look right on the LM screen.

This is in basic SMW hacking. >_>

Load it into SP1, SP2, SP3, or SP4 for sprite ExGFX. <_<
Once again Boing, not helping :P

First, go into Lunar Magic and click the blue normal mushroom. This should make a folder called ExGraphics. Go into the tilemaps folder in spritetool, and copy the one for the sprite you are using into the ExGraphics folder. Rename it ExGFX-- but replace -- with any number greater than 80 (if this is your first ExGFX, just use 80). Click the yellow shroom button in Lunar Magic to load it in. Click the red poison mushroom and check the checkbox. This tells the game to load the following graphics for that level. Set either SP3 or SP4 to the number you inserted the graphics in (it depends on the sprite). The graphics should now work.

^ = over 9000 times more useful than "Use ExGFX."

Test sig.
