Just showing off a vanilla volcano background I made in my Vanilla Journey hack:
I disabled all the layers in the screen.
Looks good. Hmm... maybe a bit darker it could be. Just to fit to the dark atmosphere.
Pretty cool, I guess, but I find the entire thing, especially the tops of the volcanoes to look odd. My YouTube Channel
Just so I can get a second(third?) opinion:
Would this sort of gimmick work? The graphics are taken from the dreaded Cave Void of SMWCP, and I'll implement it in a different manner... so I'm asking.
There's four normal blocks, and four spikes that all reflect in turn. They're mainly being used for jumping on/platforms, not mazes or anything like that.aran - Graces of Heaven
@GN, it'll be fine if not abused. If you don't do something like in Void 3 in SMWCP (a maze out of those blocks and spikes if someone didn't play SMWCP), it's fine. I don't like invisible mazes... actually I didn't like that void. Too much P-switch babysitting...
Wow, this looks great! I like the graphics and the palette fits pretty well there. Good job!
@andy: I've actually never seen the palette of SMW's forest ledges manipulated that way. It looks awesome, as does everything else in those screens. Great work!
E: Now that I look at it better, I see that the forest ledge graphics were changed slightly. Still looks great though!
@Kc: I really like the looks of those graphics you drew. And personally, I don't think the current background looks bad at all; I actually like the effect it gives on the area. :)

I'm probably retired tbh
Nice to see you again Kc, and it's great to see that you're still as good at drawing stuff as you ever were. It'll be interesting to see some stuff from you that doesn't involve sand or a desert!
Thanks for the feedback guys, and to S.N.N you got me! This is exactly the reason I'm trying out new styled gfx, the sand/desert stuff got boring after a while :p
Here's another styled generic grassland, recycling some of the older stuff:
