The colour choices look good, but i think the BG colour is a bit to bright. (the layer 3 idea looks cool though)

How's that possible? Did you used sprite status bar for this screenshot?
I guess the water effect is some layer 3. Looks very nicely, especially on the ledges, but I'm not sure if it won't be a bit obscuring and making the player deconcentrate a bit. Maybe I'm nitpicky.

Anyway, interesting idea.
FG colors make it look grimy and the ground looks like it's in a dark place covered in moss, while the BG makes it look like a generic megahappy Mario water level. It contrasts too much.

Layer 3 may also be a tad too distracting, though I may need to see it in action.
I quite like the effect you've got going there. I will agree, however, that the background is quite bright compared to the foreground, which is a bit strange.
Nice job on the coloring - I'd try and make the layer 3 effect more subtle though.

I agree with K3fka, you might want to make the BG darker.
Thank you everyone for the input, but I decided to make an executive decision and did the exact opposite of what everyone asked; instead making the colors lighter.

Why? Mostly because the level isn't a deep ocean vault -- it's a small river with a small underwater section. I must say however, it looks much better than before. Only problem is that layer three appears above the status bar, but it's not that big a deal nor am I sure how to fix it. Whatever, thoughts? I'll be moving back to my thread after this of course.
Wow! Stunning scene you have there, Chanukah. I think you made the right move going with brighter colors, rather than darker. The human eye naturally seeks brightness and clarity, so what you have done here really compliments that. That green in the background is absolutely gorgeous as well. Really pops!

Good work here! #w{=)}

one of the downsides of a sprite status bar is that you're not really able to deal with super-high-priority layer 3. but you're right in that it's not that big of a deal in this case (btw looks nice)

No-one said to make the BG darker though (except Scorpion); everyone just said that the BG was a little bright compared to the foreground which doesn't necessarily imply that the BG is what needs to be changed.

I like how it looks and for once I don't have anything to complain about (shocker). Well done.
I think it looks better now. I see there's some transparency, making the layer 3 look much better. Great job.

As long as the status bar isn't obscured too much, it looks alright. You can keep it like it is.

Do you used Uber ASM for this? Looks like a complicated code.

Mod edit: Made the page load faster.

yeh, it's a bummer but I suppose I'll manage without.

True, but it was certainly implied that they wanted the BG darker.

Shocker indeed. But thanks :v

Yes I did, however the code was not complicated. It consists of a layer 3 transparency code, cluster sprite fish, a layer 3 wave, and a layer 2 wave. Quite simple, actually.
Hey guys,

So I've been working on hacking again and just kind of finished a submap. Would really appreciate some feedback, whether it's something I could improve or something I may be doing right.

It's purely vanilla so I guess there isn't really anything super special about it, but I like the way it has come out.

EDIT: The events aren't there yet, but whatever.
Hmm.. this can mean only to things.. either all other hackers are too good at overworlds, or I'm too bad at this..
Either ways, this looks great! Well done.

Nice overworld, I really like it. Some small mistakes,but nothing minor.

Ah thanks! I knew I probably missed a couple of things.

Thanks for the kind words guys! #w{<3}
As I looked back on early levels of Colossus, I decided to try my hand at making more unique graphics (two hand drawn backgrounds) to try and deviate from the boredom. I'll likely add this to the Colossus thread, along with some other progress recently made.
