I tend to avoid big angry threads, unless they're mine.

An idea that might work well for your hack is if you'd edit the physics to be more slower-paced. It'd better fit the tone and feel you're trying to set. Something worth considering, maybe.

Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate it!

Generic, as I understand it, refers to hacks which don't deviate very far from the basic Super Mario formula in terms of story and overall look and feel, there was a big and kind of angry thread about it.

It isn't generic at all in the sense that it's a completely original IP inside of a ROM hack, which is pretty rare. Generic isn't the right word for the physics, but it's a trip seeing your game in action and realizing how distinctly SMW-ey it still is, not that that's a bad thing or particularly easy to get away from.

I dunno, I find it a bit of a waste if so much effort is put into making it not appear to be a generic SMW hack yet still have it play nearly the same anyway, nor do I think it would be hard to get away from that shadow hanging over the hack. We have a patch that allows you to easily edit the physics, you could get rid of the question blocks, things like that.
That's beautiful, QuackSavior. You don't waste space in those corridors. Does the water texture animate?

That's honestly sort of my issue. Isn't that a bit too cramped for just the third level?

I don't really want to make it radically different in a gameplay sense, but your suggestion to play with the physics modifier patch is really intriguing. I've made the man a bit slower, for one, since he's not a super athlete, and playing with other little bits here and there, seeing what I get until I like what I have. The raw thrill of experimentation helps keep me doing this. Thanks a lot for tossing that one out there.

Here's some more of the Sword of Soaring, specifically, the flight animation.

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
Changed speed of the main character who isn't an athlete? That's what I understand right! I think it'll be a tad bit weird when I'll start playing that though, but I think it'll be easy to get used to that
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Been messing around with an overworld over the past few days that I'm aiming to make look at least a little bit more unique than just the usual "it looks good" OW. Definitely still a work-in-progress.
it looks good

jk I really like this "multiple biomes in the same landmass" idea for an OW
HackPortsASM"Uploader"

That looks really unique Veck.

You often see different colour sections of OW Maps but having them all next to each other with them mainly been on the same level/height makes it looks really interesting and appealing to look at.

sorta reminded of Adventure Time Elements episodes with how the land of ooo looked in that mini arc...
That's pretty unique overworld there, Veck.

Your thought?
I commented earlier on an updated version of the same map you posted in the Discord but saying it again, I really like how it looks! I'd also like to see how it looks in game, with the gradient supposed to be there.

It's some level I posted here in 2015 (or 2016??? I pretty much forgot), reworked on for a hack under the same concept as the one from back then. The picture links to a video.
Both of your OWs are looking great, Veck and Quacksavior, good overworlds like these are like eye candy to me.
@Veck - The entire overworld being this huge shared continent is quite the creative idea. I'm curious to see how colourful the whole thing looks once completed, so I'll keep an eye out for that.
Wait, how did those sunken ships get inside the biomes? 🤔

@TheQuackSavior - Very nice overworld you got here, I really like the look of palette work and geography work.

@Mirann - Mmm, chocolate... Seeing the video itself, I really do think the level design makes out for a great introduction level. The ExGFX gives off a neat charm, too.

I thought I'd just pop in a quick peek at what will be my CLDC entry for this year, see what thoughts are displayed.

What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
I tried to make some stuff with Underway's style

Any feedback?
and yes another bump

plz pm me ideas to put here cause i dont have ideas

Looking pretty cool! #tb{:)} For an even more "Underway" look (at least the way I perceive it), you could probably brighten up the palette in general.

Another color nitpick: the bright spots in the dirt could do with less saturation.

Now, I'm torn in two, between my wants and needs.

Such a heavy place to be.

The statue is inspired by an untitled sculpture by Anders Krisar.

I, myself, am torn between sprites and important objects having borders around them (as the man and the switch do) or not (as the little green shit kids do not). Any feedback on this subject is appreciated.

That's rather bizarre. Interesting art piece, though, guess I learned something new today.

I'd give the objects outlines but with your artstyle I'd refrain from using pure black like on the switch, it stands out maybe too much.
I want to share something I've been working on:

I've been updating SMW Beta with new more accurate graphics (like the beta Koopa seen here) and beta elements that didn't make it in before. I'm adding new findings such as Chain Chomp, beta Yoshi, Hammer Bros, and so on. Additionally, all levels are being remade to be more fun, less linear, and to reward exploration. A secret world will also be unlocked after collecting all Big Beta Coins in each level. The secret world will use graphics and levels from my old 3+World project! It will be a beta unrelated reward for completion.
Projects:
- Game Night - Mario Party 3 Game Board
- 3+World (Cancelled - Download Available)
- Super Mario World Beta (2009)
