So after a long ass hiatus, I decided for a fresh start over again after getting rid everything related to SMW.

After setting everything up here is what I got so far, it's not much yet:

Ignore the two fortresses, that will be a two level castle but until I find some proper castle replacements it will stay like that.

I will probably add some decoration from smb3 overworld to add more variety at least on other maps.

Oh my god that is beatiful
Yeah, that is something special, Gregor. You could activate that as a reward for winning the last Special stage, now giving you the ability to zoom around the map at your convenience, because you were good enough to earn the privilege (and because you've probably beaten most of the levels in the hack by this point).

I would love to implement this in my hack.

I just have it activated from the beginning because travelling across the overworld can be a pain sometimes if you want to get to like the other side of the map, even with shortcuts all over. Cuts down on tedium and allows for some interesting possibilities too, because you can now reach levels that don't actually have a path going to them.

Is there a chance for a release for this beatiful thing?

Maybe when the hack's done.

Yes, SMW is sort of slow when it comes to traveling long distances of the overworld (though that is kinda mitigated by the Star Warps), so this is really useful and clever.

I'm trying new Mario GFX in my hack. What do you think? Credits to neweegee from MFGG.

It looks wonderful. The whole hack does. It looks like Mario has more than the standard three frames of walking/running animation. How did Mario do this?

LX5's powerups patch (credits to him) lets you define how many walking frames the player can have by a table. With some tweakings, Mario was able to have the double of SMW's walking frames: six walking frames (and four for small Mario).

Actually, I bypassed the table and set it to a fixed 12 frames value. Every instance of moving has 12 frames (walking, running, walking/running with item, 12 * 3 = 36) since 12 is the least common multiple of 6 and 4. I won't explain the entire process it takes, but I'll say the $13E0 values start from #$47 onward.

And, since the powerups patch's player GFX are 32x32, Mario is able to swing his arms like that, just like in NSMBWii iirc, and have those voluminous jumping and falling frames.

@LMPuny: good work with the 8-bit GFX. Seems polished and gives a good ambiance to your levels.

Now... I decided to get back to design things outside of ASM. So, I present you a WIP OW, made out of an idea I had some time ago. The theme is, at least for now, a secret; that's why I'm holding the decorations up for another date #smw{^_^}. Don't worry about the cut-offs; as I said, it's a WIP OW, so I'll draw the necessary tiles later with the rest of the decorations. Link to the OW. Image is too large to fit here.

@Major Flare

The OW looks nice although I'm not too fond of the pink color. I'd change to something like a lightish blue.

You might want to look into that. That's a perspective error.

Other than that, your OW appeals to me visually.

Done it, had to draw my own tiles since SMW's original ones would not cooperate with me...
For the record, the almost final version of my ice ow, Glacial Aegyptus:

Also, another OW. As the last one, it's still WIP; I still have to draw some submerged trees for it.

Nice overworld, Major Flare.

But, why pyramids in an ice world?
Wouldn't these be supposed to be igloos?

I think it would be best if you stayed with the SMB3 Sprite design as I feel that design fits the atmosphere so much better. This Mario Sprite looks very weird and sloppy in my opinion.
His small sprite is cute and his stride when big looks really weighty and strangely satisfying. I like it.
I have risen from my grave and spent way too much time patching in Jimmy's old Yoshi player patch in order to bring you memes

A progress of one of the level from my side-project hack. Your thought?

(also this was supposed to be some kind of storage room)
EDIT: Fixed the link.

Hey, your link doesn't work correctly because there's a typo on the last 'url'. And it's wondering how you didn't notice it while editing your post.

Anyways, your level's looking pretty great and I mistakenly thought you were Pink Gold Peach. I love this gradient on the water, keep it up!
