How to use Addmusic 4.05

There's a reason that Sample Tool has a checkbox for 'Overworld', you know. I've used samples on the overworld lots of times without problems.

soundcloud / bandcamp / twitter / battle of the bits / buy our album
You can use samples on the OW but you can't use $E5. If you replace existing SMW samples and call them with the @ command then it's all fine and dandy. You just have to make sure they're the right tuning or transpose them yourself.

I think a post layout goes here somewhere...

Just out of curiosity, is AddMusic 4.05 or AddMusicM better?

Coding wise, AddmusicM is far superior, and it's handling of samples and song data is much better. That said, addmusic 4.05 uses my advanced more.bin, which has data and code insertion. When this is used in sound effects, it allows for really easy "SPC hacking" without having to actually upload code and hijack the SPC manually. It's nice. Plus AMM can't really do sound effects at all so...

If I had the time, I'd try to merge the advantages of both, but it's not something I want to spend my time on.
I wonder, why doesn’t AddMusic come with cmd.exe? XP, Vista and 7 [at least] are the exact same.
Because making addmusic come with a tool that you already have on your computer is silly, plus cmd.exe is completely unnecessary (and I discourage it's direct use for addmusic, it should be done through bat files). Also, addmusic is cross platform, and cmd.exe would not be what you would want to run anywhere except on windows.
Alright, I guess it wouldn't hurt to look in C:\WINDOWS\System32. I mean it's not like your modifying any files in that folder, your just copying. Just make sure you hit Ctrl + C NOT Ctrl + X!
If it doesn't hurt then why don't you do it by yourself? >_>
Also I agree with HFD, inserting through .bat files is much better.

Yep, exactly that. You must always remember to do so, or else it will never work.

oh awesome, thank you so much!
ill tell you if it works!

You do realize there is 2 problems, 1 is solved but the other is did you say in cmd:
AddMusic.exe [your rom].smc

Because thats your problem there, your suppose to say this:

AddMusic.exe [your rom].smc Level

Yeah, no doubt about it.

That's for Carol's Addmusic. Not HFD's.

Sorry for bumping this post but no its not, I used HFD's AddMusic, Not Carols as its dumb, this part works too #w{:s} (I've used this trick millions of times with HFD's AddMusic so don't try and disagree with me!).

Are you a sample porter and wanna help with 100 Rooms of Enemies: The Nightmare Edition? Private Message me or Mellonpizza for details. Expect trading "resources" in exchange. 4 more left.

You don't need to put "LEVEL" at the end unless you want to specifically insert only level music. Not typing anthing after your ROM will insert everything.

I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
What does the file in the LEVEL folder do? What echo problem was there?
IIRC if you have a large amount of files you can insert the Echo Header with this python script for every song in that folder. But now it is pretty unnecessary(long word...) 'cause the Level-/Overworld-header is required if you submit a song.
So it makes sure the echo plays when told to, and when not to.
I mean this header:
$ED $80 $6D $2B
$ED $80 $7D $00

The code is kinda useless and if you want you can delete it safely.
It's not useless. It prevents the music from crashing on a decent emulator or SPC player.
I meant the python script, that's useless because the Header is required if you submit a song here.In other words: If all the songs from your hack are accepted here, the python script is useless.
Yeah, it was only there to get people over the original hump (not that anyone really used it anyways...).
Hi again..
I'm still having trouble with addmusic (UUGGGHH) but I noticed something:
After typing in CMD "addmusic.exe (rom name).smc -se" CMD says "there was no data to insert"... But I did exactly everything you said to but with no luck.

I'm getting pretty damn confused here, how exactly are you guys getting it to work but I can't?

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Or give them cyborg implants and conquer the British.

I think I should post this here:
If I want to overwrite SMW's original SFX, can I just insert
etc. in the Sound Effect.INI?
A well done tutorial but when I type exactly what Slash Man said to type in CMD.exe, I keep getting
Invalid option
. Any help on this issue I'm having?
I'm also having roughly the same problem as supernova. When I run Addmusic 4.05, It says that everything was successful. Then when I set up the level in Lunar Magic to use that song, it does get past Mario Start, but when you either finish the level or die, the level just stays as a black screen.

I noticed on the song I was given, that an "N-SPC Patch is required". This was a comment left by the porter. Could someone possibly tell me what this means? I can't for the life of me figure it out.

Any help would be much appreciated. supernova, I understand how you feel.
