Tip: Remaking levels from other Mario games is strongly discouraged, especially popular ones (World 1-1 from SMB or SMB3, for example), as their over-presence in Mario games, official or not, often makes them uninteresting to play.

How to use Addmusic 4.05

This might help solve some problems when inserting music:
After you copied the txt. file in the LEVEL/OW folder, its useful to right click, click on "rename" and copy the name in the .ini file. Trying to retype it is not handy, because Addmusic even refuses to work with capital letters typed incorrect. Any small mistakes made, will insert the music but'll freeze the game when starting the lvl/ow/title screen. I hope this'll help solving the freeze screen problem.
AddMusic4.05 (is supposed to) tell(s) you when you typo'd the port-name in the .ini file. If people get a black screen on start, they should say so here.
I was trying to change de title screen music.

I made a port and it works perfectly in levels, but when I changed the number in "TitleMusic=01" (AddMusic.ini) and I tested my rom the game crashed... I tried changing the number to other values and the original music worked fine, but any custom music number always fails.
I also tried to do the same in a new rom...

Did I made a mistake on something or is this due to AddMusic limitations?

EDIT: I solved the problem... but $E5 does not work in title screen music so I used another music :P
In light of recent events, Addmusic 4 will be slowly phased out by its soon to be successor AddmusicK. However, I would like to ask you to hold off on submitting AMK ports till it is accepted and when we devised a method of categorizing ports and given tutorials out. In the meantime, familiarize yourselves with it as much as possible.

You can find it here.

I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
It won't work, i patched it, that worked, in Lunar Magic, it says "Not Used" , and in game! it had no music.

--------------------
Uh...
Hmm...
Before you inserted the music, did you apply the MORE.bin patch?
I downloaded a song from here and the file is a PKCS #7 Certificates (.spc) what do I do with dat?

Your layout has been removed.
You get yourself an SPC player (I recommend this one) and open it with that. The .spc file extension is by default recognized as something completely different than an SNES music file, hence the somewhat confusing description.

Running cmd without copying it and typing in "cd directory" works for me, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

- Expand your ROM. (preferably to 2MB)

It's already expanded if it's been edited and saved in Lunar Magic.

- In cmd.exe again, type in
addmusic.exe (name of your ROM).smc
and hit enter. This will go through the insertion process listing your songs from AddMusic.ini.

Just saying, the .exe isn't required. CMD does this wonderful thing where it checks to see if there is an .exe or DOS/batch file by the name in the argument. .smc is required, however, because it is not an .exe or DOS/batch file.

One last thing, this is misleading - people new to this might not know how to do this or where to look.

On the last one, how is that misleading? It's quite obviously referring to the music selection box in LM.

I don't really like that method; it requires too much typing, especially if I'm going to do it many times.
My favourite method is that registry tweak that adds "Open console window here" to the right click menu. My second favourite method (in case you don't like messing with the registry) is typing "cmd" in Notepad and saving it as "cmd.bat".

But hey, whatever floats your boat.

My favorite method is Shift+right click instead of a registry tweak, but hey.

Mario is just swimming around when I opened the ROM. I did something wrong...
Can I use addmusicM after I use Addmusic 4.05? I'm a little confused about recent developments in music editing, and it sounds like while Addmusic 4.05 is more hassle-free there's a [M] song I'd like being able to use.

Also why wouldn't I expand it to 4 MB? I'm planning on a decent number of ASM in my hack and last time I tried I started running into problems, presumably because of a lack of free space.
I honestly reccomend you use Addmusic K now. It can insert songs from any older AM, you can use BRRs and BNKs, it's just way better than AM4. And yeah, you can expand your ROM to 4MB. That's OK.
In my opinion, I think we can make a batch file instead of copy the CMD.
We can program the batch files like this:

Code
:: AddMusic 4.05 -- Insert More.bin

@echo off

set FileName=
set /p FileName=Input your ROM Name:
echo.
addmusic.exe %FileName% -se
pause

Code
:: AddMusic 4.05 -- Insert Music

@echo off

set FileName=
set /p FileName=Input your ROM Name:
echo.
addmusic.exe %FileName%
pause

... And Here are the all...

Code
:: AddMusic 4.05 BAT
:: By SMW_Forever

:: Usage: Put this batch file into the ROOT Directory of AddMusic.exe

@echo off
MODE con: COLS=33 LINES=13
:start
title AddMusic4.05
cls
echo.
echo ────────────────
echo        Addmusic4.05 BAT
echo         by SMW_Forever
echo ────────────────
echo.
echo     [1] Insert more.bin
echo     [2] Insert Music
echo     [3] Edit Addmusic.ini
echo     [4] Edit SoundEffects.ini
echo.
echo.
echo.
set choice=
set /p choice=Select a action to Go:
if not "%choice%"=="" set choice=%choice:~,1%
echo.
If /I "%Choice%"=="1" Goto se
If /I "%Choice%"=="2" Goto music
If /I "%Choice%"=="3" Goto ini
If /I "%Choice%"=="4" Goto sounde
Goto start

:se
set FileName=
set /p FileName=Input your ROM Name:
echo.
addmusic.exe %FileName% -se
echo.
echo.
echo Complete. Press any key to return.
pause >nul
Goto start

:music
set FileName=
set /p FileName=Input your ROM Name:
echo.
addmusic.exe %FileName%
echo.
echo Complete. Press any key to return.
pause >nul
Goto start

:ini
addmusic.ini
Goto start

:sounde
soundeffect.ini
Goto start

#smw{:TUP:}
I added music as the tutorial says. Up to making cmd work it all goes fine.

HOWVER, once I change the music and run the game, the level starts, but with no sound. And once I die or finish the stage, it freezes. What did I do wrong?

PS I'm using AddMusic 4.05

Um, duh, no offense. This is a tutorial for AM4. Anyways, did you insert the MORE.bin into your ROM first by typing this:

Code
AddMusic.exe insertromnamehere.smc -se

If not, there's your problem. If you did and the music isn't playing then:

1. Make sure the song has an AM4 header.
2. If you're trying to insert an AMM or AMK song, then sorry, only AM4 songs are usable for... AM4.
3. Switch to AddmusicK
