Do any of you people like reading for fun? I'm personally a big fan of reading, mostly fantasy with occasional splash of sci-fi. My current favorite author is Patrick Rothfuss. He has only written 2 books, and they are (in my opinion) some of the best fantasy novels ever. My favorite humorous novel is called 'Spud' by John van de Ruit. It's about a kid at a South African boarding school in the 1980's, told in the story of a journal. It doesn't sound very funny, but it really is.

So, what about you guys?
I honestly can't stand to sit there and read a novel just for the hell of it quite honestly. It's so boring to me and I get too easily distracted because of it. I'm more of a non-fiction person, sometimes biographies.
I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
I'm like Slash Man in the way can't really read books without getting distracted. A lot of my reading comes via the internet these days, primarily from this site.

I hate reading any thing serious, I usually like reading comics or biographies of musicians I listen to. I usually always read at night as well, when I'm in bed.

Exactly this. I mean, EXACTLY.

to hear birds and see none.
I usually read textbooks or something like that when bored. Yup, huge bookworm here.
i just lurk sometimes
Here's the thing with me. I can only read something I'm interested in. That might sound obvious, but I have to really be intrigued. It has to be for knowledge, too. Programming stuff? Sure. Math stuff? Sure. Music theory stuff? Sure. But I can't bring myself to read fiction without getting bored (unless it's really good). That's why most of my reading is from Wikipedia and similar sites.
I probably don't read as often as I should, but I do sometimes read for fun if a book or series I think seems interesting is out and I wanna get into it. The past few weeks I got through the Secret Series by Pseudonymous Bosch. I also enjoy Warriors cats by Erin Hunter (just like a certain other member of this site). It's good even though it has a lot of typos. After I finish a series up to the point where the last book so far was released, I usually check out the TVTropes article of it because I hate spoilers. I usually cannot get into 'classics' unless it's something dramatic or important to history, like 'Night' by Elie Wiesel (Not sure if I spelled that right.)

Actually, when I am tired I can read for hours... but there is one book I can read when I am not tired... Where the Red Fern Grows, is the only book I really enjoyed reading by myself. Otherwise I barely read when its not required for school.
Living life takes forever
I can't read a book for FUN! If it doesn't have any type of illustration
But I would read Books that are humorous!
I also read Manga, Comic Books, NewsPaper & Comic Stripes
If the book is really good, I get sucked into it and I never notice any of my surroundings. Then when I snap out of it it's like being forcefully waken up. I love to read, Language arts just comes naturally to me. I know words most people in my grade never even heard of. I can read hard-ish books with aplomb, and when reading out loud I almost never stumble.

I absolutely adore reading and the enjoyment it brings as it takes you into another world and the trials and tribulations they bring. In fact, I enjoy it so much that I'm trying to get a career in the field - I'm writing what will hopefully be a series of fantasy/sci-fi novels, albeit I'm only 40 pages into the first, but I've not been writing properly for too long. Although, heh, by the generally negative response to reading, maybe advertising here wouldn't get the best of responses XD

Back to reading, like grishnax, I too like fantasy/sci-fi, which is why I've chosen to write in that genre, but I'm also partial to crime novels, especially after playing through the Ace Attorney games. Since I'm horrendous when it comes to opinions I can't state a best/worst author or book.

/me goes back to writing.

Thing is, I like reading, but I never take time to sit down and read unless its about something that I really enjoy and if I'm in the mood for reading. Reading an awesome book / fanfiction gives me a special kind of great feel that a movie, game or music can not offer. I don't know how to describe it, but it's an awesome feel that makes me want to keep on reading desperatly. And yet... I read way too unfrequently, cause most of the time I dont feel like it. 99% of the times I read is in school and upon doing homework.
It's not easy for me to easily stick to a book, but i always enjoy reading. Books i have read in the past few years are listed here. I've also been reading this Biography about Adolf Hitler for some reason. 800-so pages. I still need to read that Bury my heart at wounded Knee.
I used to read fiction a ton, but nowadays I barely even have the time or patience to do so. Most of my reading material now consists of textbooks and websites, and .. not much else.
I always liked reading lengthy novels (both fantasy and history ones) and even nowadays I often read books. Funny coincidence, I've finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows today (in English language, which is a pretty big thing in our country! :P), I totally love that series.
My other big favorites are the Lord of the Rings books and its "complementary" books (The Silmarillion, Children of Húrin, The Hobbit etc.), I can't really explain in a few sentences how much I love the universe Tolkien created.
And yeah, that's the main reason why I like reading, I get to know an epic story, a different world and many other things.

I'm reading The Silmarillion nowadays, by the way (in English this time, I already read it two times in Hungarian), it's a bit hard but I consider it as a challenge. :p
I have always had a little .. gift for reading, so-to-speak. Though currently in the 7th grade, I read at college level and have read several hundred books - so as it would appear, I have a deep love for reading.

I mostly read the older literature, having little experience with the more modern reading. My favorite author would likely be Charles Dickens, though it's hard to say for sure. I may actually start writing eventually, as well.
I used to read a lot of fiction, but I've since taken a liking to nonfiction articles and documentaries. Still, if I find a good fantasy novel, I'll be set for the next day or so.
I hardly read books anymore. I used to read quite a bit of manga at the beginning of grade 9, but as for actual novels, well... the only four that have actually caught my interest enough were The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and the 3 books from the Silverwing series. A book has to be a long enough length, but it can't be too long or else I won't bother to read it.

Also needs to have some serious form of adventure, romance, or drama. Not the shitty stuff you usually get in novels, but rather the stuff that's sort of believable while not cliché.

Non-fiction, on the other hand, is a no-go for me. I want something that can let my imagination go wild, not giant books that just teach me random facts I'll forget about in the next couple of hours.
I don't really like reading books. Maybe if it's very interesting then maybe I'll read it but otherwise, no.
