Is there an easier way to define the tuning of samples than just trial and error (or by ear) or can you get the value (for the $EE command?) from the SPC player maybe?

Only method is by trial and error. Unless you're advanced enough to know which commands other SNES games use for tuning, so you can parse that within a song or even disassemble that, which I have no clue how to do that. :p

Well, I have to go back to this thread again, I guess...I need some tips for the finetuning of samples. Maybe some people who often port sampled songs can tell me some, because it takes me so long to make my port sound acceptable, that there must be a better way.

The only way is by ear, really.

Commands that help you to tune a sample/instrument are these:

h command (h12 = one octave up, h-12 = one octave down)
$EE $xx ($xx being the finetune value)
$F3 $xx $yy ($xx being the sample and $yy the rough pitch, AddmusicM)
$E5 $xx $yy ($xx being the sample and $yy the rough pitch, Addmusic 4 & Carol's Addmusic)
You can also use a piano (or some virtual one you could find with a quick google search) to help you find a specific pitch.

If you truly don't think you can tune a sample by ear, try using SPC700 Player to match the pitch values. The closest you can possibly get is equal-to or less/greater than 2 values above/below the actual pitch, meaning if you're trying to get a pitch of 800 and you manage to get a pitch of 802/7FE, you won't be able to get any closer (with AddMusic).

Example:
Heh, wow. I totally oversaw that method, yet knew that SPC700 had a build-in pitch viewer. With that method I can even get the pitch as close as possible with SMW's engine. Thank you very much. =D

Is the h command only in AddmusicM available?

Should be available in Addmusic 4 as well.

XX: $01 goes up one half-step, $FF goes down one half-step, $FE goes down two half-steps, etc.
