This is my first hack. A demo of world 1 which is mostly complete. But all 8 worlds are accessible yet not 100% complete. No OW or story added yet. Let me know what you think.
You really shouldn't submit your first hack ever since it's very likely to get rejected. Here is the reason list up to castle #2. I have gone further than the length given in the hack description. Anyways, here we go...
I know this is just a demo of your hack and you can only access certain levels, but you really should just set this game up in a submap rather than the overworld since the main overworld hasn't been worked on yet. Plain grass and extreme cutoff water looks very amataurish and like no effort was given here.
Speaking of cutoff... Just extend the vertical grass wall all the way to the bottom row of Lunar Magic. This just doesn't fit.
This is extreme cutoff and looks like was done in 5 minutes. Add in grass boundaries or something to separate the water! This looks so sloppy.
Not a removal reason but those stairs look a bit cutoff and a bit weird. Since you know ExGFX perhaps you can add to the tip of the stairs like they're broken or something.
Maybe put a message box here to explain what's happening with these blocks. Also, very interesting level gimmick! Since I see you know how ExGFX works, perhaps you can change these slate and red cement blocks into something that looks more appealing.
Super easy 'boss' and wrong lava splash graphics.
Unchanged level names.
Sprite limitation? Spiny(s) not appearing.
Layer 2 falls doesn't work.
Cool message bro. Also spikes with no base.
I assume this is where the demo ends because the pink egg level ender is at the start of the level.
Some side notes:
1) Add at least 100 seconds to each level. The timer was very scarce and was often running out of time.
2) The level 'COOKIE MOUNTAIN' has a secret exit yet it's a yellow level, and you can't even get to the secret level it unlocks.
3) The majority of levels were climbing either vines or nets, and had mazes made up of small pipes. It stops being fun after a while.
A whole lot more time and effort is needed to get this hack accepted. More level variety is preferred and especially music variety (A lot of the music is 'Here we go!'
). When you create a hack you should have a general idea of what you're going to create along the lines of story, overworld, etc... My tip is to create the overworld and submaps first, then place your level tiles down after. It makes the whole process so much easier.
