Many things have been done before, but does that they're not trivial? Take for example, slavery. I don't know where you live, but here, in the U.S.A, part of its history is about slavery. In the early times, when slavery was prominent and not a lot of people realized it was awful, some people didn't want slavery. Was that trivial? Because getting Africans from their homeland and turnign them into servants and laborers was the norm, was it superficial, insignificant, unnecessary or materialistic? It is not.
Also, since I wholly agree with you that Buddhas are just statues and have no symbolism to any one in the world at all, let us all burn our flags, break all crucifixes in half, tear up all turbans, feed our dead relative's ashes to to the fishes, and consider Mother's Day, Father's Day, and all the the other holidays as unneeded and stupid. I mean, they HAVE NO symbolic reason to be in our society, RIGHT?

If we want to go with mook turned big, it has to be magic or machinery, not powerups.
Hmm. I think machinery wouldn't be fitting in this world. Magic, yes. Although, when magic is involved with something growing bigger, it reminds me of SMW2: YI, with Kamek and the normal enemies turned huge.

I have another boss idea:
You know those spirit tags or whatever that seals evil spirits?
How about we have some sort of genie or something?
I don't know how to incorporate the spirit tags though...
Maybe at some points, the genie gets smaller as a tag is added, until all tags seal up the genie or evil spirit?
