World 6 Boss: Hartfowl - HuFlungDu[ASM] & Ladida[GFX]

Complete

Claimed By: HuFlungDu[ASM] Ladida[GFX]

Briefing: The proposed boss for this level is the duck from 2dareduck's carnival level. The battle will be taking place on a Ferris Wheel coded by HuFlungDu
Name, Design and Attacks have not been finalized yet.
I have a basic idea for this boss. I'm wanting it to be a roller coaster chasing boss on an infinite looping, randomly generated, roller coaster track. Mario will be chasing the boss (Unknown what he will be) in his penguin roller coaster. I figure Mario will go a little bit faster than the boss, and the objective will be to stomp him (By jumping out of the cart). I'm open to other suggestions of how he would be hurt as well. As Mario is chasing him, not only will there be terrain to dodge, but the boss will also throw out enemies to get in Mario's way.

Yep. If anyone has any ideas for anything I left out, or suggestions to make anything I said better, I'd like to hear them.

Extras

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

This part looks interesting, how will you be pulling this off?

A weird coaster car that can fly sometimes. It's my idea. Doing the circles like in real roller coaster will be amazing.
Well, infinite looping is easy, just send Mario back (And probably send the boss back at the same time, so he isn't invisible), I've done that before. As for the randomly generated, I'll be randomly generating a track design (in a format of "objects"), which will then be used to edit the map16 as is appropriate.
Hmm, the carts are a tad difficult to control as they are now, mostly due to the delay in jumps between the three. I feel like you should switch it into a single cart, and that with each hit the cart will become progressively more damaged. Not only will this improve on the controls, but it could have some cool effects such as smoke coming out of the cart and possible sparks when it's damaged.
Carnival world.... hmm.

Well, my first idea was for a balloon vendor, but the idea of balloons are taken in the sky world.

A clown seems like an obvious choice, but it seems too obvious for this.

Most circuses have elephants or horses, so maybe the boss can be based somehow off of an elephant or a horse. Or maybe a little clown will be riding on the animal. I'm not sure how the whole thing would play out, but it's just an idea.
Just back here to browse a bit.
It seems to me that the boss of the carnival ought to be...well, the boss of the carnival, e.g. a fellow (or anthropomorphic animal, in keeping with other Norvegian henchman) wearing a red coat with large gold buttons, a top hat, a large black mustache, and with a penchant for making bombastic claims about how amazing the things we are about to experience tonight allegedly are in an attempt to sucker more money out of the rubes. But speaking rubes, perhaps it might be entertaining if after a certain number of hits, our sinister showman were to shout out, "Hey, Rube!" whereupon a bevy of his fellow carnies would rush to his aid.

That's a good idea. If someone wants, they can take this and do that instead.
Well, there's no reason that has to be incomparable with the coaster idea. In fact, it'd be pretty awesome if his flunkies came riding in to attack Mario in little carts of their own.
At first I was gonna say clown but...

Ringmaster. Definitely a ringmaster. I attacks by sending out elephants/lions/gymnasts/jugglers...just things related to a circus.
Perhaps it could be something like 'The Mole Train' from DKCR.

Basically, you control the 'Coaster', and you have to get to the boss'
cart while he/she tosses bombs and stuff at you. To add to the challenge, the track which Mario rides upon will vary and have traps on. It would be even better if the track was randomly generated as HuFlungDu suggested.
Hrm... It appears I have no idea when I will have time to actually work on this. I expected to be able to do something over winter break, but even that time seems to have gone away to other, more important endeavors. I don't really know if I'm ever going to get the time I used to have to do this stuff.

So anyways, I do still want to do this, but I don't want to hold up the project, so my suggestion is to leave me as a sort of "tentative" owner of the boss, but take my name off the thread and let someone else who has an idea take over if they want to (The only reason I think this might be "ok" is because people aren't exactly clamoring to code bosses, see how world 1 still has no claim). I'll still work on it whenever I have the free time for it, but don't expect anything from me unless I actually produce something. Until then, it would be best to just assume that no one has claimed this boss.

Updated the first post. With HFD out, we still need someone to code this and create a tileset. The general theme we seem to be aiming for is some sort of roller coaster battle, though we have not decided on who will be in this coaster. We have q Ringmaster and a clown so far. Can we decide on one of these?

If we incorporate that duck (ringmaster) that 2dareduck used in his level, and spread him throughout some other levels, we could almost create a miniature storyline involving him and the carnival. That being said, we could also use him as the lead rider in the roller coaster portion.

As for who is going to code it .. well, that's another bridge we'll need to cross.

This. A clown is overused, so I go with a ringmaster duck =D

And, I think its a great battle idea than mine.
I got to agree with Giant Shyguy that the clowns are way overused. So I would vote the ringmaster duck. If that duck was from 2dareduck's carnival level, Then he would appear in his penguin coaster cart, telling Mario that he is actually one of Norveg's minions and gets away from Mario.
I'm sorry, but I'm not good at SMW hacking, so I gave up on it. That means I'm leaving SMWCentral. Bye!
...Or, better yet, in classic carny style, he challenges Mario to a rigged game, whereby he swindles our hero out of a large amount of money/his hat/his grandfather's pocket watch, etc. and then skedaddles (making clear in the process his true affiliation to our primary antagonist). Mario realizes he's been duped shortly thereafter, and sets off after our huckster, hence the thrilling chance.

Yes.

That is all I have to say.
I used to use this site a lot back in like, 2011. Hopefully you don't remember me.

Well, the duck seems to be a popular choice, so it look like we will roll with that. Updated first post.

We still need a name and gfx for this duck and we need to plan out attacks. Remember that battle is taking place on a rollercoaster.
