Could someone also update the first post? Some screenies so it seems are outdated :3 Furthermore my level name can be added


But I'm interested in something else: I finished now 2 Level, and I wonder if there is something else to do for this hack? Maybe I totally missed some other options we have, but nontheless I'm interested if anything about ASM, Overworld, etc. can be done.

I plan to have a lot of graphical changes and for enemies I was planning words and perhaps icons. The Lakitu turned into a cursor idea is actually pretty interesting I might use that as an enemy.

I'll see about getting SS to update some of those pics, particularly the outdated screenshot of your level.

Sure you can do all sorts of stuff other than level design if you want. No one has started the Overworld yet so you can take a crack at that. Worlds 1-5 are planned to follow this structure:


I don’t know how comfortable you are with ASM but you could try making some original blocks or sprites for us to use in various “Creative” levels if you want.

You can help test levels as they are finished, give feedback, and pitch your own ideas for levels (though we currently aren’t running low on ideas).

Heck you could even spread awareness of this hack. Since we're not getting too many level claimers lately.

Doing any of the above would help us out a lot!


Okay so here’s a first look at my Microsoft Word level:



No need for information blocks when text appears in the background or foreground giving you tips. Help switches will allow you traverse areas you couldn’t otherwise.
This is what i've done in level 13/hex 11 so far. Is it challenging enough?
Definitely! It’s looking really nice just one thing:



You’re asking a little too much from the player here. I recommend making this part a tad simpler.

Great level KY2010! I went ahead and made a few minor changes to improve the functionality of the level.



The turn block bridge could push Mario awkwardly into a coin block so I moved it down a notch. The turn block became hard to reach so I swapped its position with the one beside it.

To help avoid that note block glitch you mentioned I just move the blocks away from the wall. Also moved the Yoshi coin up a bit higher to make it harder to get.

The paratroopa didn’t appear the first time I got here so it was nearly impossible to reach the upper ledge. So I replaced the paratroopa with a more reliable note block.

When Mario climbs some of the slopes near the start he’ll stumble a bit once he reaches the top, so I changed the land up to avoid this effect.

There is a tiny bit of cutoff where the rope connects with the upper left corner of the cement brick. So I replaced it with a jump thru ledge that creates the same effect.

If these changes are okay with you the level will be ready for insertion.

No problem and I was just experimenting with different palettes and forgot to change it back when I took the screens. I kept the blue sky palette you had originally.

EDIT: Oh man, my idea for the level was to make it have complex dirt formations, but I can't find the right tileset (Thanks to the ExGFX sections so called "improvment", making it a chore to browse.) also, I'm an awful artist. Any help?

I’m not sure what you mean by “complex dirt formations”.

I pulled these 5 grass tile sets from the graphics section, see if any of these are close to what you're looking for.

The changing SMB1/2/3 styles is a neat idea.
Thanks Pac, I’ve always liked the idea of making levels transform and also love NES games. So mixing SMB 1 -3 in one level has always been one of my favorite ideas.

Dropping level 10D from “Crushed Heights” world

Since I’ve gotten the urge to make a reassembled level instead. Here is my idea for the level so far:



Basically the same gimmick the Donkey Kong Country level “Blackout Basement” had where the whole level goes dark (including the enemies). However here there is a fading transition instead of the lights just switching off and on.

Not claiming a level at the moment since I’m still deciding what world this level should appear in.

While I was going for a beach level, I guess I can combine tilesets.#ab{:P}
I'm going to collect some resources before working on the level itself.
It's going to be an epic battle of me VS motivation.

EDIT: Thanks to palettes, my BG is incompatible with one of the tilesets you showed me. #w{=(}

Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:



I’m thinking it looks way too detailed at the moment; so I’ll probably be changing it up. Plan to add slopes and a few other things.
