Beta testers have been chosen personally. Don't ask to be a beta tester in this thread, please.

Yup, I'm working on a brand new hack. It should be ready next year. In the mean time, there's this thread.

In terms of what you're looking at, it's another simple vanilla-esque style hack that I always make. Though this one goes a little bit back more to that simple style. You could think of it as a sprititual sequel to my 2009 hack Kuribo_Shoe the Adventure. Non of my ground-in-ground or vanilla sky gradients will be making any appearances in this hack. Though the level design is still just as fun as ever! I haven't really done much hacking work since Insert Coin. There's been cancelled projects here and there. But now I finally got something done (almost).

This hack is sort of a retro throwback to hacks of an earlier era. It gives you a 2003-2006 kinda hack vibe. Where work isn't all just vanilla anymore, but many advancements had yet to be made. I personally limit myself to what I think could have been achieved in those years, whilst still using advantages in the version of Lunar Magic I use, 1.71.

Anyways, I'm rambling, here's some screenies to hold you over. All of which are subject to change at any point.

So yeah, give me some comments, yo.
Looks good so far. That's one smexy title screen, yo. It would be even better with some kind of custom border.

The terrain and palettes are solid. The ends of the pipes look a little odd, though.

Let's see more!

Current project: Mario's Kool-Aid Acid Trip
No Mario, don't do it! THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!
Anyway, looking good so far. The OW is basic, but still good looking. But, why is Mario's name color different between screenshots?

--------------------
Nothing to see here. Move along.
It was inevitable that someone would make that Portal reference. :P

As for the hack, this is looking really nice. Palettes are excellent as is the level design. I love the mix of vanilla and ExGFX and those pipe connectors are awesome! #w{=)}
I wish I had a supporter userbar to add to my bio.

BTW, do the letters in the title screen flash?
Awesome work so far Zild!
Other than there's not much to say. It all looks great and the palettes are tasty. :3
Looks pretty nice. I like the palettes you made.
Really liking the Title Screen! Also the levels look pretty good, keep it up =)

Looks pretty neat, like your other hacks so will download/play when released.

Your layout has been removed.

Man, this is a good work indeed. I am impressed of what you can do, using vanilla elements as well. The OW is a bit... simple, but does the job.
The most creative thing in your hack, besides, is your title screen. And, of course, the title.

Dream team (feed them, please):

I do really enjoy how this whole hack will be a throwback to the past style of hacking before all of the major technical advances. It feels like a fun concept to use. Your bright palettes mix rather well, and your minimal usage of graphics provides a sense of the restrictions and approach to levels from the earlier years. I can't say that I'm very knowledgeable of that time period, but I'd advise that you maintain that structure throughout the hack and avoid using complex graphics. As mentioned, I do feel like the overworld could have a few more additions, particularly in the water. Maybe a small island or two? Also, will the music in this hack be from the original SMW?

Otherwise, great job so far!
The levels are looking good. Looking forward to see more from you =D
wow thanks everybody for all the comments! i really appreciate it.

i suppose this is as good a time as any to introduce this supporter thing i made. userbars are sooo 2008. now it's all about 50x50's.

just copy this code:

[img]http://bin.smwcentral.net/u/5025/ctc%2521supporter.png[/img]

into your sig/custom title/profile or whatever and you should get this as a result:

it says "I Support Capture That Cake!" if you drag your mouse over it. and if you click on it it'll link you to this thread. in doing this you'll be showing even more support and spreading the word even more. plus you get a cool picture with a title, link, and everything. lucky you!

thanks again guys.

Ah, another of your short hacks, I see. I've seen some of your older works, and this hack will be a nice addition to to your hacks. You have nice level design and vanilla/chocolate GFX mixing here. It appears that your status bar flashes, which explains its different colors. For some reason I like that. As a long time lurker in the ROMhacking scene I am rather familiar with some pre-2006 hacks, including a couple of my own cancelled projects from when I was still learning things. I'll be sure to watch for future updates.

You hear dice being thrown...
My SMW ROMhack: Super Market Roll Drums is active once again!
Second 2014 C3 Demo Here ([thread] [demo])
Lunatic Lolo, an Adventures of Lolo 2 hack: 20/54 Levels ([C3 thread] [demo])
I really have only one word to say. Awesome!
The palettes look perfect.
With the screenshots so far I can't see any real problem.
Can't wait for more on this hack.
=)
This looks really nice! The plot is hilarious and the overall style of the hack manages to be great without being overwhelming.

Definitely looking forward to this.

Looks really nice. I love the general concept of this hack, and the design is stellar. I'm surely following this.
(even through I registered just on 2011, I was lurking there for quite some time, and I got to play those '2003-2006 hacks' a lot.)

Here's the very first level in the game. In this video it's like 99% finished. A few things were tweaked but you probably won't notice them when playing, so it's all good.

--------------------
That's looking like a pretty amazing level. :) I quite like the palettes you have used, and the koopas, although they look slightly odd, they are somewhat amusing.

Will this hack have 4 levels as shown on the OW, or will there be more?
This level is really nice. That's kinda interesting that you can climb on trees. It's a nice idea for secrets.
hello all.

first i gotta say thanks for all the comments and support. it's really appreciated and without an audience i wouldn't be making hacks. so, today is the three year anniversary of me registering here at SMWCentral. like wow, time really has a way of slipping through your fingers. so in honor of this i decided i would give you guys some insight on the progress of this hack. well, it's pretty much done. in fact the version i have finished now will be almost no different to the version that you will play upon its release. though there is one tiny little thing i still need to fix. it is five levels long, and yes Domiok there is only SMW music. which apparently people don't like anymore? i think the soundtrack can be used to display a wide array of emotions. plus remember that i'm going with that, 2003-2006 hack feel. sure custom music was available in 2006, it wasn't a staple like it is today. not a lot of people used it.

so yeah, it's done. like legitimately 99% done. but not ready for your greasy hands just yet. and if it was 100% done i'd just sit on it until C3. so that's another thing, this will be released for sure in may at this year's C3. most likely the second day of C3, because those early threads tend to get lost amongst the madness happening. so lookout for that. now to hold you over for those two months, here's three screenies. yay.

if in the mean time between this hack you want your fill of "zildjian content" you can download my vanilla conest entry, A Few Blurry Memories. also, i shouldn't say anything yet because it's way too early to really report, but me and noon are actually working on a sequel to Insert Coin. no screenshots or anything to show just yet, but expect a little preview at C3. just cause i like ya a lot. ;)
